Given the hoo-haa going on re: skepchicks/rebecca/DJ, that title is probably going to get me into trouble....:boxedin::p

Anyway, based on a desire by Luciana to see Yellowstone National Park, and given that I like meddling.....er, organizing things, a group of us are meeting up on Friday, 6 July in Salt Lake City and spending 5 days in the Grand Tetons/Yellowstone Park area, then coming to TAM on Wednesday, 11 July.

It's been 45 Years since I have been there myself, but I doubt the mountains have eroded much in that time and Old Faithful is still..faithful. Looks like a lot of fun.

The adventurers are Luciana, myself, Hamradioguy, and Walter Wayne for sure. The Central Scrutinizer is also supposed to join us, but he is being...inscrutable...about his plans. Still, a good group of folks.

There was a 6th person planned, a Brazilian friend of Luciana's, who unfortunately had to cancel out. This has left Luciana with double rooms but no one to help share the cost (and rooms are not cheap in that area in the summer, folks).

So...

If any of the Ladies herein (or if you want to pass this to others who are Friends of Luciana (FOL) who are not on the Forum) would like to see some of the prettiest country you've ever experienced and spend 5 days with a pretty good group of folks (I did mention Scrut is coming, didn't I?), then please PM/E-mail Luciana. As for flights and hotel, I'd figure your half of the hotel is maybe $400-$450 (up to Luciana) and as for flights, well, we'll see what we can do.

OK, now for the part to see if I can tick people off. :eye-poppi

Guys...no. Just no.

Ladies...This is Luciana's vacation so if you are a really, really, good FOL but she chooses someone else to come along because they read this and got in touch first, I want no hard feelings...please. If you are a lady but have not met Luciana, you can contact her and maybe you'll click--but again, it will be Luciana's decision and I will back her 100% (besides, I have the minivan...)

And after all, if you're not chosen, you could always have Scrut turned into a Newt and take his room...long as he gets better by TAM....:bricks:

Anyway, PM Luciana if you're interested.

You shouldn't have mentioned Scrut was coming if you wanted to entice the ladies. He's too crude. :)

I know you had the grinning-face on there, Ginger, but just to be serious for a moment....

The Central Scrutinizer has a.....unique posting style, I grant you, but I have been at TAM (and the Galapagos) with him, and in person, he is..well, I won't go outstanding, mind you, :p;) but he is very amenable and I would bet real money that whatever problems women may have experienced at TAM's, it wasn't because of that man.

OK, so much for serious. Back to hearsay and innuendo.

For the record: I was once an officer and a gentleman by direction of the President. I'm still one of those at least. Dry Yankee humor, generally decent travel companion and tend to take lots of photographs.

Scrut isn't going to Yellowstone anymore. :(

I wish he could go. We've been travel companions in the past and it was absolutely great (don't let his forum persona fool anyone. He's a perfect gentleman, the kind who can discuss fine art and anthropology).

Definitely! Great travel companion, oh yes! And here's a picture of us at the Masada Fortress, Israel (we're at sea level. They valley below is the Dead Sea, -400 meters, lowest point on Earth):

Well, I'll be somewhere else for somebody's wedding in July (but Yellowstone is a place I visit a lot).

If you want a few tips on cool place to visit drop me a line, Hutch. (I'm presuming you're tour guide.)

Or you can ask Paulhoff, I toured the place with him last summer.

I have 3 petticoats, proving I am a woman (nobody on the forum has seen me, right?). I also once wore vanishing cream and it worked (Raidey's gone away, Mrs. Torrance).

And I have great taste in women. :)

Jaw-dropping, Dean!

My mom had never heard of Grand Tetons, but when I showed her some pics, she was delighted - hey, I've done a 2,000-piece puzzle with this mountain here! Oh, and this barn, I think it was 1,500! And the lake? That was a 3,000, very difficult!

And the Grand Prismatic Spring! I've always wanted to see it, ever since I was a kid and could not understand a word on that National Geographic Magazine. And now I'll see it! :cs:

Hmm. You're starting to tempt me. This sounds kinda fun. I'm not going to TAM after all (I balked at the ticket price... yes, that's my reason, sorry) but I could do this. Maybe. If it weren't so short notice... I am dreading the plane ticket cost the most to be honest. But I do owe Hutch money for that cab in Istanbul. :D

Oh yeah, I'm female and Luciana knows me. So I think I'd be okay for that at least. Unless Luciana really hated me in the last cruise. >_>

Edit: nevermind just saw that this is a bump of an older thread, I'm sure it's not longer applicable. lol

Grand Prismatic Spring is really cool, but to get a good view, you get to hike up the caldera edge a ways so you can get the whole thing in one view. It's not a long hike, but the term "up" definitely applies.

Don't miss Great Fountain (even if it's not due to erupt), either. Only problem there is that there is no mountain to climb to get the whole thing in one view.

I think I already said that, though.

Morrigan: there's room! Especially for you! But the cost of the ticket probably pales before the cost of the hotel. :( I'll PM you the details anyway, it would be awesome to have you as roommate. (and how could I possibly hate you?! :fg:)

Awww thanks :D <3

PM replied. Man my finances will take a huge hit if I do this... but so very tempting...

Edit: argh, ****, keep forgetting an important detail. I'd have to be back at the very latest on Wednesday afternoon, July 11th. That's because I have a Maiden concert with 7 friends that I'm attending. So the flight back is a bit problematic... I'd have to either leave one day early or take a super-early flight on Wednesday morning. The latter doesn't bother that much but Salt Lake City is farther from Montreal than I imagined. Air Canada has no direct flights, they all go through Denver or Chicago, making for very long flights. Boo. Not sure what I can do about this just yet... maybe I could take a midnight/early morning flight and sleep in the plane, if those are available. I'm no good at sleeping on the plane but I'd manage I guess.

Instead of going to that concert, you could always run to the hills of Nevada. Even better, being a casino town and all, by two minutes to midnight, you could hit aces high! You know, if you don't have a fear of the dark.

:D

Luciana, Hutch, please check your PMs asap. Sorry about my delay, was pretty busy these past few days.

Edit: ugh, ignore my PMs... by the time I wrote this the damn Air Canada flight I wanted got sold out. O_O I really hope I can land at SLC at 2 PM now, it's a bit late but my reasonably-priced flight options are dwindling fast...
Edit 2: please confirm, the last night is spent at Jackson, WY, and I'd have to take a flight from there to leave back home, right?

Thanks!
