Over the next several days, more than a hundred of the most powerful people on the planet will attend a secret conference at a hotel in Chantilly, Virgina. Some of the biggest names in politics and business will be there. The hotel is going to be completely locked down and will be swarmed by hordes of security guards carrying machine guns. This conference is so important that even the U.S. Secret Service is rumored to be involved in providing security. These meetings have been held yearly since 1954, but no record of what goes on at them has ever been officially released to the public and all the attendees are sworn to secrecy. Decisions made at this conference will affect the lives of every man, woman and child on the planet. But the vast majority of Americans will have no idea that the Bilderberg Group is meeting about 20 miles from Washington D.C. this year because the mainstream media in the United States ignores the Bilderberg Group almost entirely year after year. Based on the coverage it gets from the U.S. media, you would think that the Bilderberg Group was a non-event. But if some of the most powerful people on the planet are getting together to discuss our future, don't you think the mainstream media should be covering it?

I don't believe this, but your thoughts?

I believe you shouldn't post entire whole articles.

As for the article, it simply ignores the obvious truth: a bunch of aging intellectuals having a non-effectual meeting about how to fix things is just not that interesting to the media because it is not interesting to most people. The media, if one might remember, is all about ratings.

The media doesn't bother covering it because there's no basis for claims like this:

Decisions made at this conference will affect the lives of every man, woman and child on the planet.

or this:

The Bilderberg Group is much more than just a social club. It has played a major role in shaping the direction of the world since it was created in 1954. The Bilderberg Group helped create the European Union and it helped create the euro. This year efforts to save the euro are rumored to be high on the agenda.

...are all fantasy, concocted as people will because the meetings are secret. What is not secret is that on the Sunday of the weekend-long meeting, most of the male participants play a round of golf.

The "rumors" of Secret Service being involved, if true at all, means nothing other than perhaps a presidential candidate may be attending (Secret Service protects all presidential candidates). Bill Clinton was already a presidential candidate when he attended one meeting, so the fact that he later became president isn't particularly surprising.

Being that the meeting is secret, there's no point in the media showing up because they'll never get any interviews or press materials or conferences. It would be a waste of time.

Frankly the only reason this is "controversial" is because some people just cannot stand being told that something is secret and they're not allowed to look in the box.

The bilderberg group is often in the mainstream media, The times, the fiancial tmes, the Economist, Guardian even makes it onto the BBC......

I might not ever get into the Sun, The natioanl enquirer, or the Daily Mirror but the serious apapers report on it as do the serious new broadcasts

In other words, "nothing to see here, folks, move along".

How do you really know the meetings are non-effectual? How do you really know important political and economic policy decisions aren't being made in total secrecy that affect billions of people? Because such an idea runs counter to what you've been indoctrinated with?

Please, do share your special Government Truther insight.

Talk is cheap. Always has been. That they talk and propose ideas I don't doubt. That they put those ideas into action I have yet to see much evidence of.

Well France and the US didn't break off diplomatic relations over the Iraq war buildup. Which is probably the kind of thing these meetings are for. "Yes we know we are saying this in public but really thats just PR".

If they are in charge they don't seem to be able to control much.

I once saw it on mainstream news, it was a report and pictures of the world leaders attending, I then witnessed John Prescott (Deputy PM) attending.
That was enough for me to realise there was nothing to worry about.

I'm willing to admit I don't know. What I'm curious about is why you think you do.

Here's my guess. Powerful people like to hang out with each other. Pretty much in the same way that celebrities do. I'd even go so far as to say that they might talk about issues and whatnot. What I highly doubt is that more than three are on the same page -- remember, their interests do not necessarily align here. If you doubt this, take a look at the US congress trying to get something done. It's full of powerful people at odds, and they are actually there to try to come to agreement. Fat chance.

During the last presidential campaign four year ago they had the conference in the same area. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama attend one of the late night meetings. The press covering them were essentially kidnapped by the campaign managers and sent on a plane to another city. No press spokespersons would explain the absence of the candidates.

Evidence?
