Trayvon Martin, Vigilante Justice

A new msnbc video about Z's run in with the law several years back. Sorry if it was already linked I'm in a hurry.

http://video.msnbc.msn.com/nightly-news/46910559/

Attending anger management classes could possibly be brought up in a trial.

Either way I believe it was originally brought up to provide possible evidence that Z's father has influence with the locals. That could be why his previous arrests were all closed, and why the homicide detectives suggestion to bring charges in the current case was denied.
His father's influence seems grossly exaggerated, given the fact that anyone could have gotten a similar deal on similar charges.

It could be brought up to establish a pattern of rash behavior.

I think it's a stupid point to try to make anyway, but one I hear every time this is being discussed on TV. 20, 40, 60, 100 pounds doesn't really matter unless you're talking about trained athletes and such. Most people aren't. Two guys who don't know how to fight, whoever gets hit hard first is going to fall down.

A 6'+ 150+ 17 year old kid could knock somebody on their ass.
Which might make one wonder how much of the anonymous witness' information about the big man being on top of the boy came from the scene, and how much from the media...

It is just about time for the instant eyewitnesses to start coming out of the woodwork.

To any legal eagles hereabouts: could all of this media circus actually help Zimmerman?

As in him being so thoroughly examined and hounded by the media that it's impossible to find jurors that aren't compromised?
Not unless he can jury shop all the way to Texas...

Considering that the police in Sanford STILL have not contacted the person who last spoke to Trayvon (at least one who didn't shoot him) why is it so surprising that witnesses are just now getting their stories out?

This is all that needs to be said, at this stage.

That and the fact that the real winners here are the media and political ghouls who are feeding red meat like crazy to their various constituencies to keep the money rolling in. This goes for everyone from the NAACP to the NRA who are no doubt looking to get in on a piece of the action.

It's like OJ all over again, and it's just as sickening.

While obviously there is a lot of sensationalism and speculation (often taken as evidence) up the whazoo, keep in mind that many people/groups probably honestly believe it's a legitimate issue related to their work.

Confirmation bias has made many of them come to a clear conclusion that they are baffled rational people could possibly disagree with. So it's like a lot of other things we like to talk about on skeptic sites.

It's possible, but at the same time, there was the guy out in California Scott Peterson IIRC, who's case got TONS of media attention, and he got a fair trial IMO.

Same with OJ Simpson2 and Casey Anthony, but the C.A could be debated.

Is the story they were not contacted for 3 days not true?

I don't think the story had it correct. I may be remembering it wrong. One radio show said he was a John Doe for nineteen hours but the news program kept referring to the incident as "last night" and then his father and his father's fiance walked up. The knew he was dead at that point and it was still daylight, though I don't know what time the interview occured.

It appears that the:

The court ordered Zimmerman to attend anger management classes.

...from the arrest with the confrontation with police was before he got fired for excessive anger (if the Mother Jones report turns out to be true).

George Zimmerman, Trayvon martin's shooter, was fired from a 2005 job as a security guard for excessive aggression, a former co-worker told the New York Daily News Thursday. The paper reports that Zimmerman had worked on and off for several firms that "provided security to illegal house parties."

So obviously the anger management classes didn't work very well!

Also how can a firm "provide security to illegal parties"??? Wouldn't that be illegal?

I think I ran the count of Zimmerman's 'incidents' up to 5 earlier. A decent prosecutor could work with that.

And you seriously don't want to know how sleazy some guard rental services are...

It's the parent's direct testimony they were not told of their son's death for 3 days. I'll have to look into this.

They found out early the next morning, Martin's father had reported him missing.

It was widely reported...

And let's all just ignore the fact that Martin's family has been asking for people like the NAACP and Al Sharpton to get involved the entire time. No, the NAACP are horrible opportunists, just like that Martin Luther King guy was.

YES! I have the memo where Martin's family asks the Black Panthers to offer a $1MM bounty on George Zimmerman's head, and the blackmail of Spike Lee forcing him to publish the address of the wrong George Zimmerman.

Ha, they may look like they were typed in Microsoft Word, but I maintain they were typed in the 1960s by JFK himself, who was kept on life support just for this purpose, on an IBM Executive model A.
