Trayvon Martin, Vigilante Justice

AFAIK, the actual size difference appears to be that the victim was taller by a significant amount, and that there was a much smaller weight difference than originally reported.
Trayvon: 6' 160 pounds according to the police report.

[sidenote] It's interesting they have an address on there and still didn't try to find his NOK for 3 days. They also had his DOB. He must have had a driver's license on him. I truly do not understand that part.[/sidenote]

GZ is listed as 5'9" and no weight is listed. He doesn't look particularly obese in the police video.

From CBS News:
But his family told CBS News that he was 6' 2" and between 140-150 pounds. Zimmerman is described in the police report as standing 5' 9" tall, with no weight listed. In a 2005 police report, Zimmerman's ex-fiance describes him as 5' 7" and according to the Miami Herald he weighs about 200 pounds.

It's not uncommon for one's driver's license to have the wrong weight on it. Or the family could be wrong. I certainly don't think the police report is any more certain than the CBS report. We won't know until the autopsy report.

40 to 50 pounds is a large weight difference in any case.

Yes but that only works if anyone here said anything close Zimmerman having a reasonable suspicioun of Trayvon, simply because he was black and wearing a hoodie. I don't think anyone made that claim.

But from the street layout, Zimmerman had only a possible 3-4 seconds before he drove past on his errand. It would have been even less time before Zimmerman brought his truck to a stop, What could Martin have possibly been doing to give Zimmerman an almost instantaneous "reasonable suspicioun of Trayvon"? (other than being "black and wearing a hoodie")

When does "hooded person on foot" become profiling?

OTOH it is quite reasonable for a truck stopping suddenly for no apparent reason and the driver observing you silently to set off alarm bells.

Are you saying that there was no encounter because George was safe inside his truck?
That's what any judge or prosecutor would say in relevance to that statute *given the little bit that we know at this time*. On the TOTC, all the elements are not met.

So without more information, yes, that's what I'm saying...
Sitting in a truck staring at someone while you call 911 does not meet the elements of
threats or prior difficulties with (victim) to the degree of legal reasonableness stipulated. 'Looks threatening', or 'might have felt threatened' doesnt equal a threat legally without concrete admissable evidence.

Just because someone can imagine a scenario, and think it 'looks reasonable to me', doesn't mean it's going to fly in court.

Did you actually read what you quoted me saying? In short, I am saying that the fact that Trayvon Martin was profiled, is not in dispute. He [Zimmerman] was, without a doubt, profiling Trayvon.

Since the real world has already established that Zimmerman lost a lot of weight between 2005 and now, I'll ignore the imaginary '40-50', and go with something like 20, and the rational assessment that it was 2 people so close in size that an anonymous eyewitness calling one of them a boy seems incongrous.

You indulge yourself in whatever idle specualtion you wish.

His father and his father's fiance were interviewed, at the site of the shooting, the next day.

4.) In other words, folks, we have little solid evidence. Much of what is making up this thread is speculation.

This is all that needs to be said, at this stage.

That and the fact that the real winners here are the media and political ghouls who are feeding red meat like crazy to their various constituencies to keep the money rolling in. This goes for everyone from the NAACP to the NRA who are no doubt looking to get in on a piece of the action.

It's like OJ all over again, and it's just as sickening.

At first glance, the death of Trayvon Martin seemed to be a straightforward example of ugly, racial conflict resulting in the killing of an innocent black teenager by a white man, George Zimmerman. But now, as evidence continues to come forward, the facts seem much more complicated and the "obvious truth" premature.

That's a great piece after they were just as active as every other news outlet, fanning the flames for a month.

This sort of opportunism is reprehensible.

And let's all just ignore the fact that Martin's family has been asking for people like the NAACP and Al Sharpton to get involved the entire time. No, the NAACP are horrible opportunists, just like that Martin Luther King guy was.

Hyperbole noted. Liked the MLK touch. NRA, NAACP, they all of them will get to line up at the slops.

Well that's me convinced.

Martin's parents wanted them involved, something something Martin Luther King.

They are now Teflon.

A new msnbc video about Z's run in with the law several years back. Sorry if it was already linked I'm in a hurry.

http://video.msnbc.msn.com/nightly-news/46910559/

The incident occurred when Zimmerman allegedly interfered with an undercover officer attempting to arrest employees of a bar on charges of selling alcohol to minors, NBC News National Investigative Correspondent Michael Isikoff reported.

The court ordered Zimmerman to attend anger management classes.

*: Several years ago Z was arrested soon after, and directly relating to, an incident where Z was arguing with multiple police officers and where Z pushed (or shoved) one of the officers.
You keep bringing this up, as if it's relevant to this case. It's not.

Attending anger management classes could possibly be brought up in a trial.

Either way I believe it was originally brought up to provide possible evidence that Z's father has influence with the locals. That could be why his previous arrests were all closed, and why the homicide detectives suggestion to bring charges in the current case was denied.

To any legal eagles hereabouts: could all of this media circus actually help Zimmerman?

As in him being so thoroughly examined and hounded by the media that it's impossible to find jurors that aren't compromised?

I think it's a stupid point to try to make anyway, but one I hear every time this is being discussed on TV. 20, 40, 60, 100 pounds doesn't really matter unless you're talking about trained athletes and such. Most people aren't. Two guys who don't know how to fight, whoever gets hit hard first is going to fall down.

A 6'+ 150+ 17 year old kid could knock somebody on their ass.

White came from the Martin family lawyer, iirc. They have been orchestrating the media circus all along.

What in the world?? LTC8K6 you were here a million posts ago when it was determined forever ago that "white" came from the police report. The media, the parents, everyone got it from there. It says W/M for Zimmerman.
