Depends on what you want from a president. If we need a war leader, I'd go for the murderer. If we needed a diplomat, I'd go for the one skilled at *********** two others at the same time.

I saw Starship Troopers in the theater (stupid movie, by the way), and there was a nicely-dressed couple with nicely-dressed young teenage kids (a boy and a girl). On screen, people are getting hacked to bits, heads sliced in half, shot up, etc. But it was the co-ed shower scene that made them leave in a huff.

Well, S&M porn isn't simulated rape necessarily. In fact, I don't think I have seen that as a film scenario in 20 years or so.

Reason being such a film would absolutely be a prosecution magnet.

Wow, has this thread drifted, and I will continue this trend. I am curious. I seem to recall there once being a law prohibiting S&M videos from also including more standard porn (ie direct genital stimulation). Is that a figment of my imagination or is that still the case (or once was but is not any longer)?

Not a law but a pragmatic reading of trial history.

Many people skirt this; Ernest Greene's recent work with his wife Nina Hartley and Bree Olson and others crosses this line as do other films from other producers.

I wasn't trying to make it drift, but I am trying to understand what Santorum thinks the issue is. How you quantify harm. If legally produced porn motivates people to do something illegal in the real world.

For Santorum it's probably enough to believe porn fosters sick attitudes. But he probably believes mainstream pop culture fosters sick attitudes. If I agreed with him it would be for entirely different reasons.

I'd never heard that S&M flicks need refrain from graphic interaction of genitalia. Unfortunately it's hard to do Net research on this without bringing up a bunch of porn. Kind of interesting in itself. If a teenager has a question about ejaculate ... well let's just say I'm not curious enough to Google it right now.

I notice how some of those website disclaimers are pretty ridiculous. Like how it say that all actors and models are over 18, and then it says that the word "teen" or "boy" does not mean that the actors are minors, as if it wasn't self-evident.

Really? They might not come with rape in their titles, but considering the content you'd have to be pretty naive to not realize what kind of fantasy a lot of these movies are aiming for...

I don't find them ridiculous at all. The producers would like to skate the line of the appearance of impropriety without generating a lot of protests.

I've been in the S&M community for the last 30+ years, and if you think any part of it is "about" rape, you don't know the dynamic at all. People might play at rape fantasies (pretty rare) and abduction (also pretty rare) but generally people do not imagine that they are being raped when they are bottoming. They are too busy experiencing it.

I have found the opposite to be true in my scientific research. Things may have extreme titles, but the content is obviously consensual. I have only found a handful of rape fantasy porn vids. And believe me, I've looked...

You have to look at 70s mainstream porn if you want more than what you found.

ETA: The only case I have found where there was a consent issue was a few years ago. I don't recall which, but a large studio planned a "Rough Sex" series and the actresses they hired, though saying they knew what rough sex meant, had no clue, and two of them said they had been traumatized by the experience. The studio cancelled the series.

I might have mistaken what you meant with S&M porn. If you only mean those awful movies that pretty much only have bondage, whipping, spanking, paddling, hot wax and stuff like that i can believe that you are right since i have practically no experience with those movies.

Just to muddy things further, there are numerous examples of mainstream Hollywood films that have had rape scenes in them, in varying degrees of explicitness.

I got something of an education about this in college. A friend of mine (who I kind of had a crush on) was very involved in S&M and even won a title. He was 1995 Mr. Southern California Slave. He did get some heat from us, though, the the few times he came in on Monday after having some mishap with his fun the previous weekend (my favorite was a rash on his chest from electricity play that he couldn't wear a shirt, so came to class in just his leather vest). However, even in those cases, he would always have a smile on his face as he recounted how he got his injury.
