Same-sex marriages became legal in 2009 here in Sweden and since then homosexuals are still a small minority. Same-sex marriages are a tiny fraction of all marriages in total, and the amount weddings that take place in Churches is even smaller. Pedophilia is still illegal and polygamous marriages are not allowed. Child sacrifice and Satan worship is not that common.
What other harmful effects have people said would come from this? I mean these people are experts at playing off peoples emotions and spreading fear, uncertainty and doubt amongst fearful fools, so being painfully vague is their main strength.
You know what, when stripped away of all rationalizations, and whatnot, this is what i hear when i hear these kind of folks going on about homosexuality destroying society. Kirk, and his son analogy really cemented it in.
"Listen, i personally don't care if your gay, but the problem is , i want kids. I know you may not think you being gay, and open about it will effect this, but it does.
And the reason is as follows, if i have a kid, he or she might be gay. I can't deny this, i know it is a possibility.
Now, if you folks just stay in the closet, and we keep a 'don't ask don't tell' kind of philosophy, my kid is going to de-facto feel shameful about these attractions. And this is good for me, because i don't want to have to deal with this issue, my facts arn't that convincing, and the only way they will have any weight is if society in general treats homosexuality like a drug addiction, something that doesn't harm anyone else as long as it is kept under wraps.
The problem comes in, when society is doing what it is doing now, and accepting homosexuality as a legitimate part of life. You have to see the problems this makes for me.
First off, if my kid has no shame about it, they arn't even going to try and hide it. And come on, do you think the people i know and love are going to not give me **** over this? Do you understand the **** storm this will have, for me?
Second, if it is accepted, my reasons, well lets be honest here, they sound silly as hell. He will have me and my kind of people, on one side, saying stuff that only makes sense if you only have exposure to my social circles, and the rest of the world on the other. That just isn't a fair debate, and this is my child, i shouldn't have to compete for his mind space.
Third, if everyone were just to stick to this, the conversation wouldn't even come up. My kid could be as gay as he wanted, behind closed doors, remain a bachelor or single gal, come up with some excuses, and no conflict at all would happen. No awkward conversation at thanksgiving, no screaming match about bringing over his boyfriend, or her girlfriend at christmas, nothing. Heck, they could even just say they are good friends, then everyone wins.
In short, if we all just shut up about it, it will be easier for me to raise my kids the way i want. And i don't really hate the gays, seriously, i just don't want to have to deal with these kind of things. "
