You misspelled awesome.
I'm only kidding really. I like the poem a lot. Not sure about the Iron Maiden version though.
You misspelled awesome.
Yes, terrific photos.
It became a tradition to take the other kids to see Cook's Cottege (his parent's cottage by memory - I don't think he actually lived there) in the Fitzroy Gardens whenever a child as born as the maternity hospital was just across the road. I got to know the cottage very well.........
No! Captain Cook is our guy! You can't have him.
I read this,
And thought, surely lionking doesn't think.......................? Then I read this,
From art and realised that you Antipodeans have some kind of belief that you have a claim to a man born, bred and brought up in the UK, who happened to visit your way a few times, as well as the then US, Hawaii, Canada and Newfoundland).
I'm afraid to tell you, you can't have him and to further inform you that the English can't have him either. As his father was from Kelso that makes him, by descent, a Scot, so put him down and hand him over.
But Yorkshire Trumps the lot.
You can always tell a Yorkshireman ...
But not a lot.
Not necessarily anyone lying. Probably just mistaken. Folk etymology is a difficult thing to disabuse people of.Maybe he just meant the people on the boat were saying something untrue when they were guiding you round.
The Endevour was in Philly a few years back. I went on board and took some pictures - I was still using a film camera so I guess that was about 12 years ago or so. I just found those photos a few days ago. Wonder if I should scan them....
For anyone interested - the event that sparked Cook's great expedition, the transit of Venus will occur on June 5th and 6th this year. This will be only the four time it has happened since Cooks time (1769)
Thanks for the info!
It will be visible here!

Edit: Hey, Kookbreaker, do you sell eclipse viewing glasses at your store?
I think you may need a small telescope to see it.
The safest way to observe a transit is to project the image of the Sun through a telescope, binoculars, or pinhole onto a screen, but the event can be viewed with the naked eye using filters specifically designed for this purpose, such as an astronomical solar filter with a vacuum-deposited layer of chromium, eclipse viewing glasses, or Grade 14 welder's glass.
I should mention here that it is perfectly legal to take pictures of people and use them however you like, so long as they aren't children. It is, however, usually polite to get their permission first.![]()
This is incorrect. If a person is identifiable in an image, you must have their permission to use it for any purpose other than news reporting.
The restrictions are not very important as long as you do not try to use them for commercial purposes. For example do not put a photo of a person in the photo competition without the subject's written permission. It is generally possible to take photographs in a public place without asking permission. This extends to taking photographs of buildings, sites and people. There are, however, some limitations.
Photographing people
There are no publicity or personality rights in Australia, and there is no right to privacy that protects a person’s image. Existing privacy laws are more concerned with storage and management of personal information and are of limited relevance to the present issue.
I don't think that is the Law in Australia. Especially not with tourist type snapshots like Orphia posted. It might apply to professional Film Crews shooting a Movie or TV Commercial, but not personal snaps. If it were so, Facebook and similar sites would be out of business.
