Bigfoot DNA

I think very few of them have even considered that this is, at worst, a hoax and at best a huge mistake. Some of the forums I have read seem to accept that someone shot and killed two bigfoots as fact. Robert Lindsay seems to be the great source of info on all things bigfoot which is remarkable on it's own but he also believes the Albert Ostman story lock stock and barrel. This is simply nuts.

I don't have the exact breakdown, but my recollection is that the great majority of believers and their sources ie books, websites, "experts," etc. endorse the Ostman story. It's part of the canon.

If I were just being introduced to the Church of Bigfoot, and was told that this was an integral part of the religion, I'd head for the door.

Indeed, both Ostman and the Muchalat Harry story are accepted uncritically, despite the fact that they're essentially the same story. Just how tall a tale has to be before being recognized as such is an open question in bigfootery.

TheMelba facebooks in the Palinese syntax so familiar to the bleevers:
While I am giving thanks to the many people responsible for the success of the project, I also want to mention Adrian Erickson because this study would have taken a lot longer if he hadn’t been generous with his funding also. So, without these two generous people (Adrian and Wally) this study would not have been able to be done. I will also tell you that the study is not coming out next Thursday as everyone keeps saying. I do NOT have a date. So that is why I ask you for patience.

yes, there is.

If she can get this steaming mess published somewhere, anywhere, it will be worth at least several hundred thousand dollars in books, television, licensing and other fees. IMO. So she will get it published somewhere. The number of "journals" is very large, and the spectrum of quality is virtually boundless.

You know, and I can't believe this, but I hadn't really thought of it in that way. A whole genre of hooey specifically invented to create wealth and I asked that question? Geez!

If I have a chance in the next few days, I'll look at the Journal Citation Reports that, among other things, ranks just the top 3500 scientific journals by several criteria.

 "Ya know, you grow."

It probably won't comfort you to hear that for awhile now we've also been accusing The Meldrum & Associates Inc.™ of the exact same 'hooey'. We reasonable, rational people like to pretend how seemingly 'stupid' they all appear to be in their supposed belief in Bigfoot, but their stupidity isn't the measure anymore. It's their morality. And so far IT is hovering right around an F-.

I find it almost impossible to believe they all (Meld, Melb, MM et al) don't now know there is no Bigfoot. So their taking (likely serious) money for feigning sincerity in seeking a 'truth' they already know to be different, is as criminal (and dishonest) as any Ponzi scheme operator. I've never seen The Meldrum™ (or Mutt Moneygrabber™) come on at the end of one of those shows and say "Just kiddin folks. Don't be stupid. We're jerkin ya. Of course there's no Bigfoot." Which, ironically, would at least be honest.

I guess I just always thought that players like Ketchum had credulity issues; don't know why I thought that, but I did. But cynical hooey purveyor is much simpler, and makes more sense. And if fits in a more general sense with ghost hunters, alien abductees, psychics and TV evangelists.

If you start off with the null hypothesis that they're morons, that is rejected at the 99% level by the PhD and any number of other things.

So replace that with the hypothesis that a manipulative person plays dumb when it is to his advantage along with all of the other tactics like selective attention (to only the tracks that he can use for mid-tarsal break peddling), selective inattention (to the overwhelming hoax evidence), evasion (selecting friendly, noncritical fora only), etc. - then you see the cynnicism and cunning involved, not stupidity or naiivite. This hypothesis is the only one that can remain standing and is explained so trivially by base motivations of greed and the adulation of his home team groupies.

I've made my mistakes in life, some big ones for sure. But making a lifetime career out of being a bunko artist requires a kind of depravity very few of us possess.

yes, I think the credulity excuse went by the boards some time ago, once she got a rejection slip that said,
Where do they teach you to talk like this? In some Panama City sailor wana hump hump bar or is this getaway day, and your last shot at his whiskey. Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here. --Melvin (Jack Nicholson), As Good As It Gets.

I'm puzzled. This feels a lot like the GA Boyz and their bigfoot in a freezer. I can remember thinking then, "well they must have something they think is a bigfoot if they're willing to reveal it at a press conference." Of course, we know how that ended up.

Now we've got The Melba making these inane pronouncements on her Facebook page, while letting out these little teasers that a paper will be forthcoming. But there are hints in her comments that she hasn't got a clue, e.g., I've read statements from her more than once that used "data" as a singular - that's the kind of stuff my undergrads even fix by the time they graduate, and we're getting it from this person who's about to blow the lid off evolution and everything we thought we knew about the natural world? Today I guess she claimed a bit more about "observing" bigfoots in their natural habitat or some such nonsense, but that they're afraid of "electronics" so they can't be photographed.

It just doesn't add up. Nothing I've seen from her gives me the confidence that she's got both oars in the water with respect to a paper like the one we're being led to believe she's about to publish. It's like she spends an hour each day working out on the Mularkeytron 3000.

At the same time she must have something, right? If she reneges on the whole thing, won't the 'footers call for her head? Is she about to publish a crap paper in a crap journal? Was there ever a paper?

Like no one saw this coming a mile away. I saw recently some quotes where she had been observing sasquatch? Interesting...

Is the cat about to be let out of the bag? The hype for this has been filled with hints as to what I believe the true motive to be. The double whammy move of selling the bogus science to believers in the form of a DVD, and testing the depth of Hersom and Ericksons wallet in funding these tests. Does that mean if they are still accepting examples that we can send in a few hundred samples and Hersom or whoever will be paying for them to be tested? Interesting. See how this could become quickly abused?

Your search - mularkeytron 3000 - did not match any documents.

Suggestions:

Make sure all words are spelled correctly.
Try different keywords.
Try more general keywords.
Try fewer keywords.

From some of the syntax and the time of the postings, I get the impression that whatever device she uses is powered by ethanol. However, she knows her market, and it matters not to them what the quality of the paper (or the journal) is.

I infer that Dr. Ketchum chose not (or was not chosen) to present her <del>study paper research mularkey foolishness steaming pile</del> wares at the annual meeting of the American Academy for the Advancement of Science.
A researcher says that he has created a vegetable-based product...The first such food capable of replicating the taste, texture and nutrition of animal products could very likely debut by the end of this year, said Patrick Brown, a molecular biologist at Stanford University.

"We have a class of products that totally rocks, and cannot be distinguished from the animal-based product it replaces, even by hardcore foodies," Brown said.

Brown began his work several years ago when he decided to focus the rest of his life upon solving the challenge of weaning the world off of animal farming. He described such animal farming as an "inefficient technology millennia old" that also represents "by far the biggest environmental catastrophe" during a press conference held at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Vancouver [qua!?] on Feb. 19.

I couldn't agree more. Had I been more specific, you'd likely see your excellently expressed point is basically the same one I was apparently only trying to sneak up on. I defer to your far better command of the written word. :)

To expound on the point, he knows exactly what he's doing the entire time. The level of education vs deliberate depravity/immorality aspect seems as vivid in Meldrum as anyone too. I've always believed PhDs are not very often given to (actually) stupid people. On the contrary. And the sometimes clever obfuscation tools Meldrum's used in his Bigfoot career prove he's far from it. I like that "selective attention/inattention" description. I think Meldrum's a pro at it.

I'll also bet dollars to donuts The "Cad" Meldrum™ has promised chicks 'there is a Bigfoot' for a little sumpin sumpin. :eye-poppi

:D You are too!

I don't know if this has been posted but you can follow TheMelba's (and PR flack Sally Ramey's) evasive hype and her fans' oohs and ahs here.. She is really going all in on her witnessing of bigfoots. It's quite strange, imho.
Personally, I think the present wave of hype will go toward promoting Paulides' new book, which is coming out in April.

Seriously, who utters crap like this when they're involved in a scientific endeavor?

"Update 2: Our data is amazing and beautiful and all cutting edge. I will be so glad when we can share it!"

It seems that she's setting herself up for an incredible fall.
