As for the question of talent: meh. She was no Freddie Mercury.

I've also conceded that the music industry does provide some benefit, it generates revenue and provides jobs. Since I'm being generous I'll even concede it helps do charity related stuff, despite my misgivings about their motives for doing so. No such thing as a completely selfless act, so I can't criticize them too harshly.

Doesn't mention 'artists' specifically but since everyone seems to have comprehension fail today let me spell it out for you, Music Industry includes it's most recognizable participants: the 'artists'.

Generating revenue? Practical, beneficial, useful.

Providing jobs? Same notation.

Charity events? Dubious about their effectiveness and motivations, but still practical, beneficial and useful.

Are you satisfied?

I haven´t seen _any_ music on MTV in several years. If I open the channel, on my way scrolling to some other channel, they _always_ have some reality show like the Hogans or something. No music.

Hadn't thought of her in years, and she was too ubiquitous for me when she was famous & good, but underneath all that she had real skill and talent. It's sad*, but somewhat nice that people are appreciated en masse after they die.

Because it's not about logic & reason, its about feeling emotion. Granted they can overlap, but though many people on this forum could break down the who, what, where, & why of Iago (From Shakespeare's Othello), few, if any, could make people hate him like I could.

Same with Whitney, Elvis, Micheal, etc... It would take you less than a day to learn the lyrics. Odds are, if you had a year to work out the logic & reason behind why their hits, "hit" so to speak, you would go on stage and fail in an epic fashion.

Yet they could take the lyrics of pretty much any song you choose & receive a standing ovation if not make it a hit. That is talent. You may not like it, you may deny it... but its a fact.
