We disagree about OWS, let's leave it at that...

I'm beginning to wonder if DC is a Poe.

I started to think that he must be a while back.

Speaking of Poe's:

If I remember correctly, the Civil Rights leaders were almost all jesus-freaks. Which I don't have a problem with, but if you were being remotely consistent, you'd be bashing the smelly hippies who sat in segregated restaurants, too.

Of the ones I mentioned, A Philip Randolf was a socialist whom many scholars appear to believe had no religion (even if he came from a Methodist background) and Bayard Rustin, a Quaker, was openly homosexual - not something common among "Jesus freaks". Martin Luther King obviously was very religious but, so what? As for Ralph Bunche I don't know what his religion was but I expect if he wore it on his sleave too obviously he wouldn't have made a good diplomat between the Arabs and the Jews in Palestine.

As for the sit-ins at segregated lunch counters, they were there to demand that they not be refused service on the basis of the colour of their skin, just as the freedom riders were demanding that they not be refused on buses because of the colour of their skin.

There is no reasonable comparison between them and the scruffy hippies who camp out in a park demanding that their rights be respected by abolishing money/ending capitalism/be provided with rainbows and unicorns in perpetuity and even thinking there is is narcissistic and outrageous.

No. This is not about me at all! Yes, I am the author of the OP, however take a look at some of the comments that were directed towards me almost immediately!
I know, and all you did was pour gasoline all over the place and hand out matches.

By the way, Yes I would piss in a church if that church made every effort to piss on my community. And I would be sure to piss right out in the open where everyone would see!
I bet you're big fun at parties.

Just to be boring, let's look at the meaning of the word, "discredit"

How, have I damaged the Occupy movement's reputation? How have I disgraced it? How have I caused it to be doubted or distrusted?

I have made no smears against the Occupy Movement. I don't even say "Occutards". So why accuse me of discrediting the Occupy Movement?
Come on, just because the OP is justifying urinating on the floor of churches who supported OWS shouldn't discredit the movement. :boggled:

...which doesn't exist anymore!

The point obviously went right over your head. "OWS can't be that bad if smart, educated people in positions of prestige support it" ignores that fact that there was no shortage of such people willing to support dumb things like communism. They are in fact more likely to support dumb political ideologies.

"You have to be an intellectual to believe such nonsense. No ordinary man could be such a fool."

- George Orwell.

You know what also has a lot of smart people with prestigious positions and advanced degrees?

Wall Street.

This is part of the problem that the supporters of OWS don't understand. It isn't just "right wingers" who don't like the group and think they are a disorganised mob with no perceptible aims, no identifiable leaders, and nothing to offer a civilised political debate. There was a smattering of empathy for them, in their early days, from civic leaders, business leaders, union leaders, and many other people who could have provided them support and guidance.

And they had one of the best marketing slogans in recent memory.

What did they do with it? They pissed it all down the drain and united everyone--leftists, centrists, rightists--business people and unions--educators and police--renters and property owners--net debtors and net creditors--against them. This is practically a first in the history of political movements. The OWS and the various Occupy movement have almost deliberately marginalised themselves into the same category as the Aryan Nations, LaRouchists, the Ku Klux Klan, and the Marxist-Leninists. None of those starry-eyed sociology students from upstate New York are ever going to include their participation in this train wreck on their resume without a substantial disclaimer about their withdrawal before it degenerated into a howling pack of violent criminals.

Those who sympathised with them the most and felt that there ought to be more accountability for corporate America should be the ones most angered by their antics. It is those people who were primarily betrayed by the bottle-throwers, graffiti-sprayers, and looters.

Wins thread.
