We disagree about OWS, let's leave it at that...

Acting illegally because you think you have the right to do that, when there are many other ways to influence public opinion, is not one of them.

I disagree, sort of. There's a place for acting illegally in protest. To quote Martin Luther King, Jr:

In no sense do I advocate evading or defying the law, as would the rabid segregationist. That would lead to anarchy. One who breaks an unjust law must do so openly, lovingly, and with a willingness to accept the penalty. I submit that an individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for law.

Here's where the "sort of" comes in. The law-breaking of the OWS protesters is of an entirely different nature. They aren't accepting the consequences. They're essentially demanding impunity for breaking the law. And the laws that they're breaking aren't even really what they are (nominally) protesting against. So I do agree with the conclusion that the OWS is unjustified in adopting its tactics.

...until you get locked up and have to bunk with a criminal/vandal who ends up changing your name to Virella!

I'm not getting locked up. I abide law and order. I don't smash buildings up, burn public property and call for city hall to be replaced with a commune.

But Virus, that's why they're going to lock you up, after city hall gets replaced with a commune. Insufficient revolutionary fervor is a crime.

I wouldn't steal from a church. I wouldn't piss in a church. I wouldn't demand a sympathetic church hand over its private property, then try to seize it when it refuses.

The immorality of their actions is one thing, the sheer tactical idiocy is another.

Remember, OWS represents YOU. So whatever their opinion on elevators, circumcision and breast feeding, it's YOUR opinion too.
Unless you disagree with them, in which case they never represented them and you were never part of them.

And I'm sure a JREF USA Politics subforum world would mean adhering to authority no matter if the rules are unfair or if thugs are hired to uphold those rules!
It's amazing how you've gone from "calm, mature, rational appearance" to "flaming rage, straw men, excessive exclamation marks" just from being questioned in the slightest.

Why are you trying to change people's minds by kicking, screaming, huffing and puffing?

Instead why not offer what you see as so lacking in your opponents: rational argument.

The thing is that I agree with some of the arguments made by those in the Occupy Wall Street movement. To the extent that any of them offer anything coherent. But I just don't think the tactics of that movement are very good. And I am absolutely repulsed by some of the utter weirdos that they seem to attract.

You could say that about the right wingers here. I know I would.

Maybe you should make mention of that to Virus, Ziggurat, and yourself!

Good! Great! Yet another cookie is here waiting for you!

Do you want another one?

Absolutely NOT a straw man at all! Not at all! Take a look at some of the comments Ziggurat, Virus, and other wing-nuts have made here on JREF. They have strayed from the conversation so many times... Why don't you read Post #113 and tell me who is presenting straw man arguments! Virus certainly has not taken the time to read this post! Maybe you could enlighten him!?? Maybe?

By the way, Yes I would piss in a church if that church made every effort to piss on my community. And I would be sure to piss right out in the open where everyone would see!

No. This is not about me at all! Yes, I am the author of the OP, however take a look at some of the comments that were directed towards me almost immediately!

True, but it takes 2. You could walk away and it would be over. Part of me thinks you kind of wanted this to continue. Just saying.
