Dirty campaign ads 2012

I'd likely make the same choice, but it would be good to HAVE a viable alternative to make me actually have to think about the matter.
Likely? While he does stand out in this remarkably sketchy lineup, is there even one issue where Huntsman better represents your views?

...when Romney's job at Bain capital laying of "tens of thousands of workers" will no longer be an issue, as far as the donor in the linked article is concerned.

Daredelvis

Pardon, while I express a bit of Schadenfreude here as the Republican front runner, who epitomizes what the republicans have been calling 'job creators' gets attacked by his republican primary opponents with rhetoric that looks more like it came from OWS than the GOP.

That's old news, and the guy who did it an idiot.

Also, someone posting something on youtube doesn't qualify as "campaign ad", please try again. Seriously.

No offense, but nowadays it can and, under some circumstances, does. Why?: ads (US) currently are not limited as to who can place them and people who can't afford billboards and radio/media time can afford You-tube and web sites - look to see more of that everywhere. And kooks with vicious attack ads WILL be doing just that.:):jaw-dropp

If it came down to him or Obama, I would probably still choose Obama (seeing as I am left of center), but the concept that his experience with China is a detriment and is used to question his loyalty to America is just surreal. I agree that it speaks very poorly of whoever made that attack ad.

Well I've heard even worse - apparently he is fluent in English, he can even read and write English! That can only mean one thing - if he becomes President he's going to tear up the declaration of independence and give the USA back to the British!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Must have been from the Perry campaign, as that is the only candidate I can't see such an argument backfiring on.

All the candidates should be able to claim that they're running 100% clean campaigns since there is no shortage of 3rd parties to do the dirty work for them.

Any idiot can get hold of movie making software and a cam. We learned the power of the people campaigning for their choice of candidate in 2008. Now we're learning the power of the (3rd party?) dirt.;)

By the time general election comes around, we all will need to shower after we switch on the TV set.

So, here's another one in the works. This one is not a 30-second or 1-minute spot but a long form hatchet job on Mitt Romney by a Gingrich-backing SuperPAC.

Newt’s Friend Antes Up

And here's what part of that $5 million bought:
The Boffo Awfulness

(Normal link here). This is just a trailer for it, but you get the idea.

Obviously Sheldon Adelson is concerned with workers getting the shaft from these vulture capitalists. What a great patriot, Sheldon Adelson, salute.

How about this one from Pete Hoekstra?

Geez, why didn't they just go whole-hog and have her wear one of those conical coolie hats, holding a pair of chopsticks while pulling a rickshaw? This is the sort of thing that happens when everyone on your team thinks exactly the way you do, and there's no one there to say "now hold on a second."

This might have worked a lot better (or at least less offensively) if she actually spoke Chinese and they ran subtitles, that way you wouldn't have gotten the stereotypical Charlie Chan broken English. But perhaps Mr. Hoekstra is aiming at a constituency whose reading skills are not quite sufficiently well-developed to follow along that quickly.

He's getting backlash on this from within the Republican party:

Asian-American Elected GOPer Turns On Hoekstra After Ad

Washtenaw County, Michigan Commissioner Alicia Ping (R) says she was leaning toward endorsing former Rep. Pete Hoekstra in the Republican primary for Senate. But that’s all over now. On Monday, Ping donated money to Clark Durant, Hoekstra’s longshot rival in the primary. She told me she’d publicly endorse him if Durant asks her to.

Why the change of heart? Hoekstra’s controversial Super Bowl ad, which the Chinese-American Ping called “demeaning”, is a part of it. But it was more Hokestra’s refusal to acknowledge that he’d made a mistake running the ad that really lost him Ping’s support.

“If he didn’t know it was racist on some level, then shame on him,” Ping told me in a phone interview Monday night. “He didn’t apologize or say ‘maybe it was over the top’ or anything. He said, ‘I stand by what I believe in’ and, ‘the liberals are just making a bigger thing out of it.’ Well that’s not the case at all. It’s offensive and it’s racist. It’s demeaning to the Asian-American population.”

Actually, on second viewing, I think she is wearing a conical hat, but on her back, not her head. You can see the edges of it and the string around her neck. Then just to make sure you know it's in Asia they show rice paddies.
