I see the 'Occupy Wall Street Better Defend it's Identity' thread is still going and I think maybe it's best to put this issue to rest by saying we're going to disagree with the purpose, efforts, and demeanor of the Occupy movement. I know that I kicked and screamed, and huffed and puffed at a few of you and it's obvious a good number of you are set with your opinions. No amount of kicking, screaming, huffing, or puffing is going to change your minds. I say we bury the hatchet and agree to disagree. There is no rational debate that is going to come out of this, especially from those who disagree with the movement, so I'm willing to say "who cares?" and move on!

Translated: "These people I've supported have become an embarrassment now, can we please forget about this?"

Let me guess...You agree with the movement?

Okay; that is not the correct way to start a "let's bury the hatchet" dialogue. Please try again.

Let me guess...You agree with the movement?

Not 100%. However, I do believe that more people need to stand up against authority and maybe question why things happen the way they do instead of just sitting by and accepting it. That was my whole point to begin with.

To sit here and come up with words like "Occutards" and "Filthy hippies" and the sort is really no solution for anything nor does it have anything to do with what this forum is about, which is CRITICAL THINKING!

Sure. There are faults with the Occupy Movement. I don't argue that for one second. But that people here have the attitude that they should all "SHUT UP" and take a bath/get a job/get bent/off themselves, etc is just plain nonsense that really doesn't give credence to any formal conversation.

That people are able to rise and see that something is wrong is where you have my support. That people will test authority is where you have my support. That people aren't letting themselves be trapped in an echo chamber is where you have my support. And that people will stand against law enforcement for being thugs is where you have my support.

If you want to leave it at that, don't participate in those discussions. Starting a thread about the thread doesn't "leave it at that", it invites a whole new debate, one which you've now made explicitly personal.

Perhaps nothing rational will come out of further discussions, but isn't that frequently the case in the politics forum? What makes this any different?

Oh, I get it. What makes it different is that you think you're rational and your opponents are all irrational. And you'll convince them of this by telling them that they're irrational and you're rational. Good luck with that.

So instead of burying the hatchet, you call your 'opponents' irrational and use the hatchet-burying-thread as a way to present your opinions.

I don't really see that working...

Well...

Ziggy...

You're contributing to this thread now, aren't YOU?

You're calling yourselves irrational, I'm not!

I think you may have made a mistake with the quote button. I already read the underlined part.

And I didn't call anyone irrational. I just pointed out that saying people who disagree with the Occupy movement can't debate rationally is probably not the best way to bury a hatchet.

Yes, I am. But unlike you, I never claimed that we should just agree to disagree. I've got no problem with voicing disagreements.
