We disagree about OWS, let's leave it at that...

Speaking of rational discussion from the OWS side:

As I watched that video, I kept hoping the police would use their shields to check one of those guys in the face. Alas, the police were more professional than I would have been in their shoes.

I see the 'Occupy Wall Street Better Defend it's Identity' thread is still going and I think maybe it's best to put this issue to rest by saying we're going to disagree with the purpose, efforts, and demeanor of the Occupy movement. I know that I kicked and screamed, and huffed and puffed at a few of you and it's obvious a good number of you are set with your opinions. No amount of kicking, screaming, huffing, or puffing is going to change your minds. I say we bury the hatchet and agree to disagree. There is no rational debate that is going to come out of this, especially from those who disagree with the movement, so I'm willing to say "who cares?" and move on!

Why are you trying to change people's minds by kicking, screaming, huffing and puffing?

Instead why not offer what you see as so lacking in your opponents: rational argument.

The thing is that I agree with some of the arguments made by those in the Occupy Wall Street movement. To the extent that any of them offer anything coherent. But I just don't think the tactics of that movement are very good. And I am absolutely repulsed by some of the utter weirdos that they seem to attract.

And that's why you're not a cop.

Well, I am mainly thinking of the people I saw from the Occupy LSX where they were talking about making "tree spaces" in banks for elves and things.

Honestly it was so incoherent I couldn't exactly tell you what they believed.

SO? They're standing up against the police! This is something that needs to happen every so often!

Well, those guys certainly do look like weirdos and quite obviously are not your run of the mill social democrats but rather posturing Che Guevara wannabes.

Nevertheless, we don't know exactly what happened before that. The guy is claiming to have been whacked with the cop's baton and if that is the case then a bit of fruity language in exchange doesn't seem so bad. I certainly wouldn't be in favour of "looking-the-other-way" while state troopers are allowed to beat him.

....To sit here and come up with words like "Occutards" and "Filthy hippies" and the sort is really no solution for anything nor does it have anything to do with what this forum is about, which is CRITICAL THINKING! ....
Critical thinking is what I excel at. These Occutards do not rise to the level of, and should not be dubbed, as "Filthy hippies".:D

I agree. I'd want to watch it all.:D

Let's not agree to disagree. Let's go nya, nya OWS's critics we were right, you were wrong.

In the same way the Tea Party critics were right. In the same way the TV psychic was right about 'the body being near water'.

Bury the hatchet ?

Hell no

As long as these asshats are claim to speak for me, yep I'm a 99 percenter, refuse to listen to a thing I have to say, preferring to suggest I'm an agent of the state or some such nonsense for trying to dialogue with them, make the entire protest about them and their wants, occupy public spaces and deny those spaces to the use of non occupiers, rant on like crazy religious folk to whom critical thinking is an anathema, continue to slavishly support the corporations they claim to hate by purchasing their products, treating politics like it's some sort of pre-school "that's not fair" game, display their dirty laundry like it's art, engage in stupid street theater, whine about corporate personhood, lie about foreclosed properties, go all smashy smashy and claim it's not "violence", wear those idiotic masks from that movie, and fail to appreciate huge run on sentences.

I ain't burying no hatchet.

You are aware that moveon.org is at a different URL, right?

soba, I wonder if the gent in your video is aware that China may be transforming into a major capitalist-possibly-fascistic global power even as he protests under their banner.

Probably not.

Since you asked, that would still be you. You invested your committment to this shiny new thing, "kicking, screaming, huffing" to get us to take it seriously. To little effect, because we saw it as the latest bored middleclass kid fad akin to goldfish swallowing or streaking. But, like any impassioned missionary, you saw our failure to join your crusade as us "being set in our ways" and not seeing that tomorrow belonged to you.
You now have buyers remorse because we may just have been correct.
