Obama's only part way through, but already I'm thinking, why on Earth are any of you skeptics rooting for the corrupt Republican clowns?

He's giving a fine speech, and doing a fine job of framing the campaign for next November. I will watch the Republican rebuttal next.

I guess his speech wasn't very interesting if you are thinking about Republicans while he is still talking.

It was pretty funny, too. I was sure that was Biden and Pelosi sitting behind him but that girl with the tweezed eyebrows and rich orange foundation was actually Boehner.

I had to squint, though.

To you and Applecorps, I give my psychic prediction as to what will be the gist of republican response:"He lies!"

You were just proved right in the first 60 seconds of the rebuttal.

Ah, crap! I forgot to watch the rebuttal.

As for the main event, it was dull. But I usually hate these :p . I mean, the speech was great and all, but only without context of how the administration and the Republicans have been fighting so far.

My problem is that the event is so contrived that the prez pretty much has to BS with policies that won't happen. It is such an odd event. Like, did he have all these policy ideas in the last week? Has he been storing them since his last address?

The rebuttal was by "Not My Man" Mitch (see his election slogan for explanation) who just made sure that no moderate is going to continue to think of him as the "rational" Republican since he just had to adopt all the self-contradictory, laughably projecting, outright fact-denying Tea Party talking points to make his speech.

I expect the "Real Mitch" to make many more speeches later rejecting many things this Mitch just said.

It's not even over. But I'm sure you'll have another chance.

The speech would mean a lot more if it wasn't all about "Congress needs to send me the bill and I'll sign it".

So far, I don't think the rebuttal is doing too well. The funniest part was where, after Obama talked of an equality context using the phrase "black or white; Asian or Latino; conservative or liberal; rich or poor; gay or straight" the rebuttal equality context instead used "income, race, gender, or other category". :)

If you says the word "ghey" you become the ghey!

If only any of them would do what they say they want to do. Sigh...

Not his fault. You have to write these rebuttals ahead of time. It's too difficult if you have to do it right after the speech.

So it is with the speeches. Are they keeping the President's speech under wraps like it was a new Harry Potter novel until he delivers it?
