January Stundie Nominations

Apparently while we weren't paying attention there's been a rash of assassinations.

President Obama is doing what the fed tells him, the same as every president ever since JFK had his head blown off for not doing so.when is he going to close down guantanamo- his election pledge?

Sorry, never mind. His grammar threw me off. :o

This is utter nonsense. Your bike is much more sophisticated than the lunar landing module? Really?

You have no idea what you are talking about, if you really believe that. Go back to Berkeley and Vanderbilt if you believe that, because you've learned very little.
Berkeley, Vanderbilt?.....I went to Beijing University and the Sorbonne.

Went to U.C. Berkeley, double major; Mathematics/Biochemistry, studied maths at Cambridge and received doctorate(applications of Galois to epidemiological stats). Returned to the states and ultimately went to medical school.

(BTW, I know why AdMan referred to Vanderbilt. For you non-U.S. types, Vanderbilt is in Tennessee, which last time I checked is part of "the states".)

Well, maybe keeping track of which school one went to, or even on which continent you went to school, is too much to remember. Let's try for something easier, like one's name:

And quit callin' me Pat, the name is Peter, as in Peter Peter pumpkin eater......

...To allay any anxieties here. My name is indeed Patrick. ... I, Patrick, do promise to be the only person posting here under the user name Patrick1000.

Hope that was helpful sts.

It was helpful in the sense that it shows another example of Patrick1000/fattydash/DoctorTea/etc.'s inability to tell the truth, or even tell consistent lies, but that's only incrementally helpful; it's like dropping rock #300 off a cliff and observing that it fell down just like rocks #1 through #299.

Patrick's/DoctorTea's laughably tortuous attempts at damage control after he messed up by posting easily identifiable pictures of his bike (while claiming he designed it) I think merit some kind of recognition, if not a Stundie.

I think he regrets ever falsely claiming he was any kind of bicycle expert.

Patrick now informs us that Gene KranzWP, Apollo 13 flight director (portrayed by Ed Harris in the film), was totally unqualified to assess whether the Lunar Module was capable of serving as a lifeboat for the astronauts.

. . . Kranz says even though there is a problem with the Apollo 13 command module, they have the LM and they can count on the lander to get the astronauts most of the rest of the way home.

This is BEFORE any formal decision is made to move the astronauts into the LM, BEFORE any technical assessment has been made with respect to the LM's capabilities.

So here in this regard, we have Gene Kranz, absolutely unqualified to make any determination about such matters, cluing us in on the "script" as it will play out well before the alleged problem for the alleged cislunar ship has even been assessed.

No one has tagged silver birch and his knowledge of crumple zones in airliners? Bolding mine, but all kinds of fail in this one.

what I don't believe is the official story of the north tower. why I believe in the no plane theory. if the tower was hit by a 767 the tower shown in the videos taken a few minutes after would not have looked like that.
say, it had a big heavy 767 crash into it. a 767 is big and heavy, but, it will float on water, not only will it float but has enough buoyancy to support the passengers walking on the wings. so, like anything that floats, it displaces its own weight in water. this means most of the volume of the plane is air. so, strip away the engines, landing gear, and everything inside the plane, and the weight you have left spread over the 160 ft fuselage and 150 ft wingspan means the aluminium skin is not very thick.
now, I'm certain if a 767 had flown into the towers it would folded on impact and not have passed through the steel box girders on the wall of the tower, in the same way autos have crumple zones to absorb the impact of a crash.supposing the plane had passed through the outer wall, leaving the plane shaped hole, which is not actually plane shaped, no room for the tailfin to pass through, the aluminium plane would then have had to demolish the central support of 47 steel beams, otherwise the tail of the 160 ft long plane would have been dangling out of the hole.

Wood floats, so obviously the plane is made of wood. (or ducks).

I thought it was, "Guns don't kill people, people with guns (and knives, etc) kill people."
Actually just recently some local hunter sat his gun down leaning on a tree, it fell over and went off and killed him. Rather a sad case, but sometimes guns actually DO kill people of their own accord as it were.

What imaginations some people have

I'm just going to go ahead and nominate this tidbit from it.

The kind of people who get their rocks off pretending to be skeptical and intelligent to cover up the fact that you have very little free-thought, imagination, or knowledge of any kind.

It's very easy to make fun of people on random internet forums when you have no idea what they are talking about.

The first two sentences...
yep.

It's even better when you look at the quote he was defending:

Early man evolved to a sort of cave man type being. Then our elder ancestors came here (from where I'm not sure) and created the human race by cross breeding their own DNA with the DNA of early man. I believe they were creating a slave race, or had some other purpose, I'm not sure. But then they began cross breeding and the human race was born.. half of the earth and half of the stars.

In my own defence, I would like to submit that the hunter's own unsafe firearms handling practices (failing to put the safety on/having a weapon without a working safety, propping the weapon up instead of laying it flat on the ground) are what killed him. The weapon, being inanimate has very little accord of it's own.

Yea, but that's already in CSTDT so it seems like cheating for me to use that.

Just adding the context emphasizes how stupid he's being. "You close-minded skeptics!" is just garden variety stupid when he's complaining that we don't like his alt-med claims, or some such thing, but when he's defending the "We interbred with aliens" hypothesis, it becomes Stundie Level Stupid.

True.
The thing I was pointing out (well, I thought I was anyway) was that he was making fun of skeptics for disagreeing , and then immediately states afterwards that you shouldn't make fun of people for disagreeing.

Though you probably knew that already and were (was? What do I use here?) just giving the quote more "oomph."

From this thread at Pharyngula, by poster Favfern (post #8) replying to the previous couple of posts;

WOW! Amphiox seems to be relying on the old argument of using enough big words (in whatever order) so as to bamboozle his (I assume Amphiox is the masculine "his", because women seldom speak in this manner) listeners. There are VERY few contributors to this thread who really know what they are talking about when it comes to criticism of Dr Teo! How could they?

You are either a qualified neurosurgeon or you are not. I am not! But, are the Teo detractors members of a professional body in that field? And if they are, how much of it is proffesional jealosy?

A classic helping of multiple arguments from ignorance with a side of misogyny

CM, defending zir thesis that the Holocaust didn't happen, because people of integrity would have protested:

On February 27, 1943, the war was going poorly for the German army, but Hitler was still bothered by the problem of Jews remaining in Berlin. There were only a couple of thousand, mostly men, left from what was once a flourishing Jewish community, but Hitler’s aim was to exterminate all the Jews.

< ... >

While others were being picked up and murdered, or worked to death in forced labor camps, these men held on to a tenuous life. Until February 27th when all the Jews remaining in Berlin were to be picked up.

The women were furious. “They had struggled through over 10 years of social humiliation and punishment and stress to protect their family, and suddenly their husband and children get picked up.”
.
So they protested against something that never happened, because if it had happened they would have protested against something that didn't happen...

And this is "integrity".

Bonus points for making sure we all knew that "that was when women were housewives", ignoring that by law, they couldn't be anything but....

No, this just proves that sometimes stupidity is it's own reward.

Same poster who claimed the Holocaust couldn't have happened because Germans were not culturally predisposed to genocide.
