I'd imagine the vast majority of Cain backers will go to Gingrich.

Some will, especially the Southern vote. However, Cain made a lot of hay on the idea that he was a "Washinton outsider", and Gingrich is just the opposite. I'm guessing that Perry and Paul will pick up a substantial slice of the Cain vote. Maybe Bachmann, since she's even more crazy.

If you think that's weird, then this pretty much explains why while it is a good thing that Cain's gone, the campaign was killed for the completely wrong reasons.

It's a believability thing, especially for men. Men think that women who are accusing them of harassment are hysterical and angry, but they have no problem believing that a "real man" would have a honey on the side. They can brush off harassment, but they know in their hearts that they would do the same thing if given the opportunity to have a consensual illicit affair.

And worse yet, apparently the inability to express coherent positions on issues and having an economic plan that looks as if it had been written by a 5th grader weren't enough to kill the campaign even before the harassment allegations.

Even though the Herman Cain campaign is over, this needs to be remarked on. 'Women for Herman Cain' was created not by women who support Herman Cain, but by the Herman Cain campaign about a day before they decided to fold their tent and go home.

The original logo, since replaced, contained a stock photo image of four young women giving a thumb's up, not actual supporters of Herman Cain.

The bizarre Herman Cain story of the day is the new Women For Herman Cain page at his website, an initiative supposedly launched by his wife to enlist the aid of an “online national fellowship of women” to support Cain. And by “support” I mean “viciously attack Cain’s female accusers.”

This unbelievably creepy page features testimonials from random women, attacking Cain’s accusers as “vindictive, unstable, husbandless stalkers:”

Reading some of the testimonials elsewhere, I get the impression that a lot of Cain's base was among Christian women of a decidedly evangelical persuasion. They are more likely to go with Newt than with the Mormon, but some of these nutbars do not consider Catholics to be Christians, either.

I'm sure what he means by 'suspending' his campaign is that he will still take donations, but will no longer make any effort to get the nomination.

Cain said he's launching a "plan B" of his public career, a new policy-oriented website called TheCainSolutions.com.

I'm also fairly confident that 'Plan B' has been 'Plan A' all along.

I don't know why the Republicans have against Rick Santorum. He's almost as crazy as Bachmann, nearly as stupid as Perry, and just about as mean as Gingrich. What's not to love?

He's too careful not to say a lot of stuff that people will see as bat guano. He's more creepy-crazy than Bachmann, but is not all over the media with it.
