Occupy Wall Street better defend its identity

Yup, communists crush democracy with brutal violence, torturing and killing the people who disagree with their twisted ideology.

And you read WHAT history book to get this information? Or maybe you read a social science book?

I don't know if you've heard of it, but there was this revolution in Russia 94 years ago.

So many examples but one of the more interesting is the history of Burma/Myanmar. Did you know that it was once the second most wealthiest nation in SE Asia? Remember the 2008 uprising by anti communist peaceful protesting Buddhist monks? They got a lot more than pepper spray.

'Girls Trapped Under Elevator: ‘I Was Like, We’re Going to Die’'

Yes. I've said he'd be fired if I were in charge, and reinforced that opinion above.

Indeed, but you have yet to explain why you think he should have been fired.

Why do you think he should have been fired?

fyi: tv news mentioned 34 egyptian protestors were killed today; shot with real bullets.

We've seen how US police react to a few dozen non-violent students sitting down and linking arms.

Do you not think the bullets would start flying in the US if, instead, tens of thousands of protestors, intent on removing the ruling oligarchy, violently forced the security forces to retreat, captured, danced on and burnt their vehicles and pelted the police with rocks?

And somewhere, Rodney King gives a facepalm.

why? he lived. There are cases where the police have killed innocent people, which is far worse than what happened to Rodney King, who what has he got to complain about?

Or do instances of worse behaviour only sometimes justify bad behaviour?

Nope. Rubber Bullets, beanbags, pepper spray and maybe those gawd awful sonic thingies....

Speaking of gawd-awful sonic thingies:

Occupy Wall Street has a benefit album planned with Jackson Browne, Third Eye Blind, Crosby & Nash, Devo, Lucinda Williams and even some of those drummers who kept an incessant beat at Manhattan's Zuccotti Park.

Participants in the protest movement said Wednesday that "Occupy This Album," which will be available sometime this winter, will also feature DJ Logic, Ladytron, Warren Haynes, Toots and the Maytals, Mike Limbaud, Aeroplane Pageant, Yo La Tengo and others.

Activist filmmaker Michael Moore is also planning to sing.
:p

Horse feathers. Competent police are trained in techniques that will, although temporarily painful, cause most people to comply without causing actual injury.
I see that the temporary memory block on your vast military science knowledge has been removed, but there still seems to be some problems. Yes, they have other physical compliance techniques, those too carry risks, particularly with a group of people seated, chained together. The pepper spray was the best option and it worked.

Pepper spray can cause permanent injury or death if misused.
Good thing it was used correctly in this case then.

I help train soldiers in this stuff. Pike is a moron and a threat to public safety.
Ah, the expert reappears. Let's just say that expertise of the experts that disagree with you is at a much higher level.

Most of us (especially those of us who have worked in law-enforcement or corrections training) just find it hard to accept that some fat-faced moron with a sprayer feels so threatened by some people sitting on the ground that he has to torture them into compliance.
You aren't paying attention. They weren't sprayed because the officer felt "threatened". He did it to get them to comply against their resisting arrest.

If I tell a person to leave my house, and they would be raped if they did not.....
You have the legal right to use the force necessary to get them to comply, which is what was done to the protesters.

Warning a person of violence does not mean that the violence is necessary, ethical, moral or legal.
Sorry, approved procedures that police use have been accepted as necessary, ethical, moral and legal.

And what if we don't want their revolution? What if we think putting the hard left in charge would make things worse?

That's not the message of OWS. OWS wants to reduce corporate influence within our government, see the banks that crash the worldwide economy be held accountable and to address a wealth disparity that allows the richest 400 Americans to hold more wealth than half of all Americans (156 million people) combined. OWS supports no specific candidate.

Even if they did, there is no hard left in government anymore. (with the sole and notable exception of Bernie Sanders) Even the failed super-committee was willing to make deep spending cuts, beyond the comfort level of even the most moderate progressive.

So the ultimate goal would be to achieve income and wealth equality - no one owns or receives anything more than anyone else? Sounds familiar somehow...

not just a monarchy, but an extremely powerful and all-controlling monarchy.

... and yet, the monarchy's powerful and brutal secret police, the Okhrana, killed fewer people in its 60+ years of existence than the October revolution killed before the year 1917 was over.

that is why marxist theory did not work in russia.
the russian people needed to be told what to do.
even today, they crave autocracy.
putin is evidence of that.

Ah, so it's the fault of the stupid Russkies that they didn't get communism to work. Now isn't that special.

Oh, don't be ridiculous. With the exception of a small group of radicals, communism is not the goal. Neither is socialism for that matter.

Asking 400 people out of 300 million to pay a slightly higher tax rate - one that would still be lower than most of the western world and would be significantly lower than tax rates under Reagan - is not communism. It is responsible democracy.

The one where they overthrew a monarchy and not a democracy.

I think timhau was refering to the October Revolution eight months later, where the Bolsheviks took over and instituted a totalitarian State.

Well in that case, they overthrew socialism.

There's just not a lot of examples of overthrowing capitalism for communism that include a high death count.

So getting 400 people to pay a slightly higher tax rate would fix the wealth disparity that allows the richest 400 Americans to hold more wealth than half of all Americans?
