Herman Cain leads by 20 points!

My wife has pointed out to me that a lot of the evangelical Christian conservatives will hold Romney's Mormonism against him. Fundamentalists and evangelicals are very down on the Church of Latter Day Saints.

Yes. They refer to it as not being a Christian denomination. Some go as far as to call it a cult. Many believe that there is a need to carry the Message of the Bible to these lost souls.

A devout third-party candidate could steal a lot of votes from Romney.

That hasn't worked out so far with Perry.

His Mormonism isn't new. Evangelicals and Mormons have very similar social and political views, which is the angle Romney's campaign has been playing.

I wasn't commenting on how close or how different they might be. I was just saying that
the Perry camp may go full throttle on Morons-are-not-real-Christians. Even if it hasn't worked up to now, I am not convinced that that campaign could walk away from it.

Given how different governor Romney's views are so different from presidential candidate Romney's views I see that as an issue.

The base Republican is not the ultra-right wing evangelical and I have to give them the benefit of the doubt that they will not swallow that.

The crew of Spaceball One isn't Christian?

OK.
I wasn't trying to say that the tactic would be successful. I was trying to say that the Perry folks are not going to leave that arrow in the quiver.

No doubt Perry will use everything and anything he can find. But I doubt it will get him the nomination.

The Constitution Party which is really the Bible Party usually runs a candidate for president. Someone like Roy Moore might get some disgruntle Christian votes if Romney is the Republican nominee.

I think it is unlikely any candidate would attack Romney’s religion.

Obvious reasons.

Romney is probably the only one of those whackadoodles who doesn't make moderate swing voters want to hide under a rock until it is all over.

I hope Cain does get the nomination and picks wussy boy Cantor as his running mate.

Those things you hear falling are voting blocks falling away from the GOP.

Do you mean only a wackadoodle would not appreciate Marx?

I should learn to be more precise in my claims.

I am not saying Perry will say he's not a Christian, I'm saying Perry's folks will work behind the scenes to get the Mornons-aren't-Christians message into the media. One way would be to find ministers who believe that and then to make sure that those folks get airtime (e.g. Pastor Jeffress).

Exactly right. No candidate would openly attack another candidate's religion in public any more than they'd pick their own nose in public. That's why they have staff, dammit.

Oooh, I want to be a Politician so I can pay someone to pick my nose for me (and have an excuse), damnit.

:D

Here, again are the latest averages for Republican polls:

Cain 25.5%
Romney 23.0
Gingrich 11.0
Perry 9.8
Paul 8.2
Bachman 3.5
Santorum 1.5
Huntsman 1.2
Undecided (by implication) 16.3

What' most notable about these admittedly ephemeral polls is that Perry has lost his third place position and continues to sink. Gingrich, by moving into third pace has a greater chance to be kingmaker, along with Paul.

Huntsman, Santorum, Bachman- which one will demonstrate the good sense to drop out promptly at this point?

I find the aggressive attacks already against Cain fascinating.

Cain is the Democratic nightmare.

This attack may help him. I think it should.

At this point, my preference is Gingrich/Cain.

Gingrich/Cain would kick the poop out of Obama/Biden2.

How is Cain a Democratic nightmare?

wow....you are in for a let down.

wow....you are in for a let down.

wow.. just wow... wow.. really.. wow. You say that much too much.

I've only ever been let down. I've never been up. I've never had anyone to be up for.

And yet still;

Do you recall the midterms a year ago and almost every other election since? Do you think they've all suddenly changed their mind?
