Merged Gadaffi captured or killed.

So he's alive, but we'll never hear from him again.

Riiiiiight !

I suppose there's no way of proving that he's dead:

- Video - faked
- Body - double or faked
- DNA - faked
- Identification by loved one - stooge or false identification

It's just a wind-up by a resident Nazi-sympathizer.

I know that sometimes pure idiocy and parody are difficult to distinguish but sometimes it is worth assuming the latter if only because it is less labour-intensive.

I don't understand, are you saying he is still alive?
He is. It's wishful thinking. Littlegreyrabbit really, really wants his favorite thumb-nose-at-West hero to be forever alive.

Just like he was convinced Ghaddafi's forces falling before rebels were a tactical retreat, and rebels would be trapped and destroyed any moment now.

In this case however, I am pretty sure it is "I want to it to be true, so it is true!" form of idiocy. It's not that labor-intensive either.

Don't just take my word for it, take the word of the Jamahiriya News service, temporarily operating from a free wordpress blog
Ghaddafi followers claim he is still alive. Color me surprised.

In fact, useful[1] idiots like Littlegreyrabbit are their intended audience. It's not like anyone else will believe them.

[1]Colloquial definition of "useful idiot". However fervent is belief of various Littlegreyrabbits their hero is alive, it won't do anything "useful" to rescue said followers from bullet or noose.

There is no chance that anyone, not even Karazi, beats Kim Jong-il at it. No chance whatsoever.

Nah. Kim Jong Il's fashion sense is just bad and unimaginative. It is hardly "outrageous".

I find the GOP response to this entertaining.
Links? Specifics?
There's this.

Romney aide Eric Fehrnstrom says “Mitt Romney has responded to the situation in Libya as it has developed. It is the president who has been completely unclear regarding what his intention was with respect to our military’s involvement in Libya. Mitt Romney supported the initial humanitarian mission-as articulated by President Obama-to enforce a no-fly zone. As the mission went on, however, it became clear that President Obama had no idea about his intentions in Libya and that’s when Mitt warned against mission muddle and mission creep. The fall from power and subsequent death of Qaddafi brings to end a brutal chapter in Libya’s history-but that does not validate the president’s approach to Libya. The credit goes to the people of Libya.”

It appears that many Republicans are getting cramps from the contortions required of being simultaneously in favor of the demise of Gaddafi and against the Obama policies that helped bring it about. This sure would be a lot easier if Obama weren't so damn successful.

My understanding is that he was shot, surrendered, but then died of his wounds afterwards.

I really don't think so; there is a photograph doing the rounds of him with a hole in his temple. The video shown earlier certainly seems to go pretty seamlessly from alive to dead as well.

I also recall hearing that many sailors were sickened by that paper's headline "Gotcha", on the sinking of the Belgrano in the Falklands War.

Where did you hear that? I was on a Frigate in the South Atlantic, when we heard everyone on the ship cheered, there was no way we wanted to meet a six inch cruiser and I am damn sure they would have sunk us if they had the chance, rheir air force certainly did.

I think it might be a miss memory. I know the sub commander got hauled over the coals for using the traditional victory decorations when returning from patrol. And there was some subsequent debate over the Belgrano's location and intention.

All of that was just post-hoc PR though. I doubt there were many sailors at the time softening their hard tack with tears of grief over the Belgrano. There was a war on, after all.

Whenever one of these crazy dictators are overthrown, I always imagine the new leader to be like the rebel leader in the Woody Allen movie "Bananas", where he announces new laws that are just as crazy as anything the old leader would have put forward...

" From this day on, the official language of San Marcos will be Swedish. Silence! In addition to that, all citizens will be required to change their underwear every half-hour. Underwear will be worn on the outside so we can check. Furthermore, all children under 16 years old are now... 16 years old!"

why did they kill him?
He was captured and surrended so why kill him?

Well i assume just about everyone and their dog really, really hated Qaddafi. So i assume they just shot him because they hated him. Seems simple enough.

Why bother keeping him alive anyway? Justice? 'Justice' is only punishment, and what other kind of punishment is as absolute as a bullet in the head?

Hoo boy, you've not been paying attention :D

I think that post actually was about Hamid Karzai.
Who does have an audacious style, but is actually tasteful and cool.

ETA: Holy crap! Having clicked on that link I officially apologise to Karzai for even mentioning him in the same sentence as Khadaffi.
