The mirror can't be cooled by empty space because space does not transfer heat. The mirror can only be cooled down by its own radiation. So, yes, the mirror colds down when the sunlight no longer is shining on it.

There are objects that have had one face towards the sun for decades. Why aren't they undergoing nuclear fusion from the present surface temperatures?

The fact that this does not happen should tell you that your understanding of thermodynamics is incomplete.

Ha! Maybe you will be the stundie. Empty space in not a medium. Empty space does not transfer heat. Empty space is an insulator. Empty space only allows for the passage of radiation.

Does it bother you that you basically have to invent an entire alternate reality in order for your beliefs to seem valid? Most times that earns you a straitjacket.

No, the heating up can't be a linear process. After a while an equilibrium is reached where the object is absorbing and transmitting radiation at the same rate.

Only people in positions of power are a threat to the international bankers. People posting speculative conspiracy theories on the Internet are no threat to them.

When photons travel through empty space, space is not heated up. It's only when the photons hit objects that heat is generated.

And how is that equilibrium affect by changes in absorptivity -- even perhaps very small changes?

And as a bonus question: How sensitive are optical assemblies to even small distortions occurring from even very small out-of-tolerance thermal gradients?
