Continuation Part 3 - Discussion of the Amanda Knox case

Well, Amanda Knox indeed is a convicted liar. Her conviction is not definitive. But may become definitive if the defence doesn't recurr to Cassazione within 130 days from today. However in Italian we use the normally term "condannato" which means convicted, even for people who are not definitively convicted, and we also use "condannato definitivamente" to indicate that appeals have exhausted. The legal effects of conviction apply when the conviction becomes definitive.

I have answered your comment previously as to why Amanda is NOT a liar.

The following furthers the discussion about the Italian court system.

About 50% of all criminal convictions in Italy are reversed or greatly modified on appeal. Knox and Sollecito join the four-million Italians since the war who have seen their lives ruined by false criminal charges, only to be proclaimed innocent after many years of agony and imprisonment.

Italians are well aware that their judicial system is dysfunctional.

I don't know why this is such a big deal to you but you are wrong. <SNIP>

Don't water the lawn, shower together, turn off unneeded lights, turn up cooling temps, flush less often etc. <SNIP>

We have and even if you aren't aware of it, it is true. Btw, people that don't flush every pee as norm do often when guests are over in order not to offend a waster :)

I've got your back on this. I lived in Seattle for years and when I go back there now to work on location at a large aerospace firm in the area some guy(s) invariably leaves a urinal(s) unflushed. Also nobody waters there lawn in Seattle it would be considered wasteful.

toilet brush

Perhaps another take on this thing about Amanda not being clean in the bathroom. This is going to sound strange, but what type of toilet did the apartment have? I ask because the 9 years we spent in Germany we had toilets that had little ledges instead of water bowls and when I first moved there it took a while to get used to having to look to be sure all waste was flushed from the ledge.

Just a thought
There was a report that Meredith had to show Amanda how to use a toilet brush to make sure all of the material was completely removed. Possibly this information came from one of Meredith's English friends, but I am not certain. Nina Burleigh mentioned it. I think there might be a reference in one of the first two Knox/Sollecito threads.

I find the following, posted on PMF, to be highly unlikely:

Knox and Sollectio being acquitted has nothing to do with any desire to "mock the victim's grave":

Really far-fetched, sensationalistic, and lurid::mad:

If Daniel Sanford tweeted this he has since deleted his tweet. It does look like a real cut and past of a tweet so who knows.

I asked him about it on twitter but I am not holding my breath waiting for the answer. Maybe he's too penned in in that Ukrainian court room to push the buttons on his blackberry.

He is also corresponding with one of the worst of the guilters

"BBCDanielSDaniel Sandford

@santamariaxx If you follow me I can Direct Message you back"

Why do I feel like this is a new ship headed straight toward the lunasphere?

[btw if it's yellow let it mellow is real, and as a whacky backpacker typical NW prototype I found that totally believable -- just for completeness if it's brown flush it down. Hell, we filled buckets with water during showers and then used it to flush toilets in my house for a while.]

Thanks for your response. :) No, don't hold your breath, and yes, headed toward the lunasphere, for certain.:covereyes

I see John Follain is hoping to make big bucks with his book about poor Meredith's murder.

Or will he listen to his fellow journalist John Kercher's desperate pleas to not capitalise on his daughter's horrible fate?

I think if he's not just a greedy jerk and has a heart he should donate all the earnings from his upcoming little book.

Of course the best thing to do would be to just not release it at all, but I doubt he is classy enough.

Did a piece in the Sunday Times last weekend. Somewhat grandly called the Knox Files it was just an article really. Not particularly insightful or controversial if I recall. Would link but for the NI paywall.

It's time we flushed this discussion and remembered that minor complaints from a roommate are not a rational motive for murder.

If anyone is in fact mocking Kercher's grave, it would certainly not be - as PMF asserts - any "Knox supporters". It would be deranged individuals, acting for their own idiocyncratic reasons.

I've searched twitter high and low, and the only mention of Kercher's grave is from guilters saying she'll be turning in it as a result of the acquittal.

Smells like nonsense to me.

Another story for the flusher. If it's yellow (giornalism) flush it down.

"You don't want to see them, you really don't."

Or rather you CAN'T see them, you really CAN'T. Because they don't exist.

As if PG would ever hold back such evidence out of a sense of decency and taste if she in fact had it in her possession.

So, as the sixty-fifth General Assembly commences and hotels brace for molestation season, allow me to sum up some UN highlights over the years:

They denied Bill Clinton’s application to fly to Italy and bring U.S. citizen Amanda Knox, recently acquitted for crimes during a sex game, home.

Why do they keep calling it a sex game?????

Anyway, here's the forgotten, lost, burned at the stake, interview....[/i].

Unarresting the Arrested:FBI Profiler John Douglas on the case against Amanda Knox & Raffaele Sollecito

This article was originally supposed to be published for Il Messaggero. It was given to me as an assignment, after the editor and legal expert of the newspaper saw the Maxim interview with famed FBI profiler, John Douglas, in the January 2011 issue.

When the article was turned in, albeit shortened, my editor told me – “this article is too dangerous to print in Italy”.

So, for your reading pleasure, the article too dangerous for Italy.

There are two kinds of hunters: the hunter that waits and the hunter that tracks. The difference of two is the complexity of their hunting techniques though both aim for the same thing; bagging the prey.

Hunters who wait prefer to lure their prey into range. This is usually the preferred method of serial killers. They watch, and wait for the chance to pounce. Hunters who track their prey, involves a more detailed approach; knowing the specific differences, patterns and behaviors of the hunted, and calculate their next moves. John Douglas is of the latter. However, he pursues a different kind of animal: serial killers. He is the investigator and legendary criminal profiler known as “The Mind Hunter”.

Edited for rule 4.

Thanks, that was a great post, and interview... Rudy as an opportunistic criminal/murderer/rapist

Exactly ... and it's worth pointing out that it would make more sense to say that this was a reason for Meredith wanting to kill Amanda, than the other way around. Not much, but still more.

It was only a matter of chance that it wasn't Meredith who was wrongly accused of killing Amanda, and had it been that way round no doubt the Mignini fan club would be taking this grumbling as conclusive proof of MK's malice towards AK.

Smells like nonsense to me.

So much reason for her to turn in her grave over the last 4 years, and the delusional creeps settle on the fact that the truth has come out!

Amanda brought this up herself in her testimony. I don't remember anyone else bringing up the brush. Perhaps i'll check the archives when I get home.

From Amanda's testimony:
LG: I asked you before about how you organized the apartment, the meals, the cleaning. Was it fine, were there problems?

AK: Well, for example, [laughing] I certainly wasn't the cleanest person in the house. For example, the only time Meredith said something to me, well, it's because the toilets here are a bit different from the ones in America. You have to use a toilet brush here and it happened to me often to just forget to do that. Once she told me, it was a little "awkward" [in English], well it was a bit embarrassing but in the end it was fine, it was "cool". Then before that, a few days before, Laura and Filomena had organized a program of who was taking out the trash and so forth. Before they did that, we were just taking out the trash when it was full, or when there were dirty dishes, someone just did it, it wasn't organized point by point.

But really, this toilet business is trivia. There is no justification here that would lead Meredith to kill Amanda.
