Merged Smoking should be banned universally

Where did I imply that I want to ban everything? I am passionate about one particular aspect of public health, namely the air we all have to share, and suddenly, I want to ban everything.

Where did I say ban alcohol? I didn't
Where did I say ban Macdonalds. I didn't
...and so on.

I focus on smoking because many smokers, but not all I admit, are totally selfish pig ignorant gits, who don't give a toss about others who don't smoke and have no nicotine addiction.

Do you get it now? Just smoke well away and upwind from where you have any impact on those who don't wish to join you in your habit.

No not everyone, but several hundred in local authority housing. I am a technical sales manager in domestic ventilation and central extract systems

No if you read my post, I said "Another strawman" It was Wiki that used those words, but I couldn't be bothered to spend more time searching for a better definition, if I was honest, as it was only peripheral to the debate.

You must have missed my post where I said that I always do that. I went outside bars for a smoke even before the ban came in. It's just politeness,something you seem to lack.

Those are rather egregious examples, but sadly typical of most major cities nowadays. The brown cloud that envelops Phoenix most days wasn't there 20 years ago. My grandson has asthma and we keep him away from the city.

I smoked for about 15 years before realizing I didn't enjoy it. That was about 20 years ago. In the meantime I've puffed on an occasional cigar and a bit of the illicit weed, but both are probably 10 years in the past.

The social aspect, as has been mentioned, is really important. I don't understand why some people need to smoke, but I am aware that many do. I would rather have the benefit of their company than worry about what I am inhaling. I reckon that I've done as much harm to my body by myself.

Here we have a number of places that have external patios which can still have smokers. The influx to those means a drop in business to several other establishments that have since gone under.

Smoke 'em, if you've got 'em, as the old saying goes. I'd prefer you didn't, but I'll put up with it because I like the company.

I was addressing the smoking community as a whole, the Royal "you" if you like!

I clearly said that not "all" smokers were "pig ignorant gits", and I said that precisely because you did say you always did that. I am not trying to persecute you personally, so don't take it personally.
 
I live on the Dutch/Belgian border. I play a lot in Dutch cafes and people are defying the ban and lighting up again. Even the non-smokers that I have discussed this with are in favour.

That seems to be the attitude of non-smokers in Benelux. The rabid anti-smokers didn't go to bars anyway before the ban. Bars here are not to get blotto in, they are social centres,and the ban is putting paid to that. The ban is not designed to protect customers, it's a health and safety issue to protect employees, a safe working environment. You take on bar work, and surprise, there are smokers in the bar! Who would have thought it? Don't take the job, it's as simple as that. I'll give the ban two years before it is overturned.

Yes, the Dutch are particularly selfish, followed hotly by the Germans. Whenever I visit Turkey, these two groups are the worst offenders in restaurants.

I am in favour of a ban in restaurants. They are places to eat,not the focal point of a village like ours.
