They did not address the truth because their version of the truth is not supported by evidence in this case thus they had to resort to the only thing they could and that was character assassination

I agree. It seems like Bongiorno and Maori did pretty much the best job possible. It was always obvious that a major focus of defence closing arguments was going to be the forensics and the DNA report, and it appears that they did a pretty good job of dealing with those issues. But I'm glad that the ToD issue also appears to have been argued in some depth by Maori. I would expect Knox's lawyers to expand upon this issue even further on Thursday.

What appears very clear to me is that by the end of Thursday there will be no doubt in the judicial panel's mind of what the only possible outcome in this case can be. And my thinking in this area is further strengthened by this latest tweet from Nadeau:

I think it's very unlikely that Hellmann would be raising the idea of a Saturday verdict if his court was leaning towards guilty verdicts. For guilt, the court has to be totally satisfied that the case for guilt has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt, and that usually requires additional deliberation. In addition, the gravity of pronouncing guilty verdicts usually requires at the very least the semblance of time and careful consideration. It's a well-known and usually-true maxim in common law courts that if a jury returns a verdict very quickly, it's almost always an acquittal.

I think therefore that the very fact that Hellmann has raised the prospect of a Saturday verdict is instructive in itself. And I think it's doubly instructive that Hellmann has raised this prospect before Knox's defence's closing argument has even been heard. I think his court has now decided that there is clearly reasonable doubt. And since this is the only thing his court has to decide, he realises that he is ready to deliver the verdicts as soon as possible. That, to me, is the only reasonable reading of this situation. Knox and Sollecito are going to be acquitted.

And that is some 5,000+ posts short of the number of wiretapped phone calls recorded by ILE in just this one case. Wow, just wow.

I would encourage you to pass on to Moe, Larry and Curly that, at least in this case, their own scrutiny deserves careful scrutiny. In fact, the prosecution relied exclusively upon appeals to emotion and "evidence" that has long ago been disproved. They have no case fit for a civilized audience.

If Amanda Knox is kept in prison on the basis of the prosecution's -- and Maresca's -- treachery, Meredith Kercher will have received nothing like justice, but her tragic death will have motivated something more closely akin to a lynching.

Justice for Meredith will be done when the court bases its decisions on valid evidence. Hopefully this time, science and reason will prevail over drama, false evidence, character assassination and statements obtained under duress.

If he (Mr Moore) wanted to comment he should have said something along the lines of she lost her temper, should not have done that in a public setting, and regrets the sideshow.

I agree with all of this. And might I just add in that .org seems to have devoted a significant chunk of its discussion today to examining Michelle Moore's words to Mignini in ever-increasing detail. It's almost as if they think that this sideshow issue somehow has any relevance to the appeal trial of Knox and Sollecito. It's almost as if they are uncomfortable discussing Bongiorno's and Maori's closing arguments for Sollecito. It's almost as if some pro-guilt commentators would prefer to dissect a minor and irrelevant incident - simply because it paints a particular pro-acquittal individual in a bad light - rather than deal with the issues of real importance. I wonder how many of them now realise that Knox and Sollecito are about to be acquitted, how many are ignorant of that (perhaps deliberately, perhaps through an inability to understand what's going on in the appeal trial), and how many are still in deep denial of that?

On Bongiorno, I liked the Hydra reference and the recurring cat joke theme. The impression I got was more of a friendly common sense type of presentation with a bit of irony and sarcasm throw in. A good change of pace for the judge/jury. Maori covered the bases well. He only had the afternoon session and the judge was slow getting back from lunch. Most of this stuff is in the appeal documents as well.

Assuming justice is served, Amanda won't be leaving for another 20+ years. That's a long wait! :cool:
