Amazingly, the photo here puts the lie to the insistence that "The plane crashed into the front row of spectators"
Looks like the runway to me...

The impact site is out of shot to the left of that photo. Mercifully, the debris was mostly thrown back towards the runway and away from the seating area on the concrete apron. The point of impact may in fact have been just outside the public area, but it was much closer than that picture suggests.

After a Blue Angels crash in 2007 they changed the annual air show here in Seattle. The Angels perform every year at Seafair. I think that year or the next we had another team, then they went back to the Blue Angels but they fly further out and away from the houses now. The jets used to literally go right past my window, now they fly by tens of miles away.

I've seen no changes in the Chicago air show, they still fly over the city and between buildings.

When are you going to give this up? The airport spokesman in a press conference described the plane as taking out the front row of the box seats. He went on to say the grandstands hold 10-20,000 people and the box seats a few hundred (I don't recall the exact numbers he cited). He went on to say each box held 10 or so people (again I don't recall the exact number).

Most of the injuries seem to be shrapnel from news accounts. Clearly anybody directly hit by that aircraft would be in bits and pieces.

And it is those fatalities that would have never made it to the hospitals and it is this number that has yet to be released. MSNBC said the officials will report the number dead later today.

That's interesting. They made such a big deal of it here. Must be the city or county that decided the rules. Seattle can be a bit wimpy when it comes to these things. It was the only major city to cancel their 2000 4th of July celebration.

There is an image of the destroyed crowd area when you first click on this link. The image changes to a news video and the scene is only visible for a few seconds in the middle and near the end of the video.

Here's a still image of the crowd area. I think the image in rwguinn's link points toward the triage ambulance area off to the side of where the center of the impact was.

Climbing? I thought it was turning as you will not be accelerating at multiple Gs upward. Also once you reach a constant speed upward you go to 1 g while in a turn you are constantly accelerating.

If you observe carefully, the race course is off to the right of the crowd.
This plane comes down from the left... how'd it get there?
At the '71 Reno race, I watched Howie Keefe in his P-51 blow the motor in the race. He pulled up out of everyone's way, and landed safely, with the entire front end of his P-51 covered with oil.

If you watch the videos, it appears he went straight in to the runway-not the crowd. The reports of 2 on the ground killed and 75 injured (9 critical) lends credence to that fact--if he'd gone into the stands, as first reported, the death toll would be much, much higher.
Debris scatter would account for the relatively few casualties.
Overreacting is a standard, here--especially from people who don't know ****. Wait for the data, folks!

Many (most?) pilots consider themselves god's gift to women, but no one disappeared at that moment.
Something in the plane broke, and the initial response was severe enough to have knocked the pilot out.... my guess.
A right turn at Reno just doesn't happen.

I think they all produce those trails at airshows, it's part of the show.

According to here http://www.warbirdinformationexchange.org/...start=60 the plane used some kind of boil off cooling system.
