Clint Eastwood On Gay Marriage.

I arrived here much later than you, so I don't have much experience of that side of you, but I can relate to your change of heart. I was raised, from about the age of seven, as an evangelical Christian. Until around my late teens/early twenties I still clung to many of the dogmas that I had been indoctrinated with. But I found that there were certain undeniable facts that could not be reconciled with the world view that had been provided for me. It's not that those who indoctrinated me weren't well meaning and sincere, but I came to see that they were mistaken and that they were afraid to admit certain things to themselves. Reading Carl Sagan had a huge impact on me. I came to realize that reality could not be defined by my desires. And I learned that the universe as it is, is far more compelling and wondrous than the provincial superstitions that I was raised with. I realized that gods and demons are but expressions of our own fears and desires. And, among many other things, I realized that the actual abomination was to discriminate against the expression of love between consenting adults of any persuasion.

I'm sorry for rambling a bit, but blame the Speyside region of Scotland if you must.
I liked it. :)

I do agree with Clint. I guess I don't care where somebody else finds affection, or how they get their rocks off.

But ya know, acting is ummm a pretty girly-man career anyhow. It doesn't get my respect as much as oh, military careers? So why should I give a **** about what Clint says?

Audy Murphy, Steve McQueen, Jimmy Stewart, Ernest Borgnine, Neville Brand, Clark Gable, Peter Ustinov, Peter Sellers, Donald Pleasants, Benny Hill, even Dr. Ruth have lived a life of machismo. In comparison, Clint is an empty suit.

Acting, girly? I have had more serious wounds acting than i have gained by either martial arts, knife throwing, or pyrotechnics. Acting is not for the faint of heart.

I'm not in favor of gay marriage. Not against it either.

I rank it up there with Toyota adding a little more blue into their next line of cars. Who gives a :rule10:?

who gives a rule 10? Gay people, for starters.

Maybe you was doing it wrong? :D

Actually, i could add i have dished out more serious injury than in any of those hobbies, as well. Broken foot, someone almost being hanged ( though that was more of an error of ommission due to no one asking how to do a proper, not real noose.) , among many other things.

Trust me, acting sucks ( in the sense it , for the most part is physically intense and demanding.), and is not the playtime that most people assume. And this isn't even getting into 27 hour days, having to wear summer clothing in winter to make it seem warmer ( a spandex shirt in mid November is much less pleasant than a punch in the face after hour 3), or keeping ones self 10 pounds lighter than one should be to play a younger role.

Soldiers get more lip service than actors. But that's it. Let Brad Pitt walk into a bar and an Iraqi war vet walk into the same joint and tell me who gets the love.

Well it's a little early to say that...

Nevermind. You were right Dave. ;)

yes, let's compare one of the most famous and recognizable actors in the world to someone you didn't even bother to name. That's a fair comparison.

I'd be willing to bet that if Jacob Pitts and David Petraeus in uniform walked into the same bar, Petraeus would get noticed first and get better treatment.

When I saw the thread title I was afraid it'd be something disappointing.

I'm glad. His expressed view is like my own. Why should I care who gets married to whom? How is it my business who gets together and their living arrangements?

One of those things that's so obviously power being levied by the majority against a minority, I'm struck dumb that it's allowed to continue in the USA.

I agree with him. Both people for and against gay marriage tend to exaggerate the issue. It's as if either the whole of society is going to collapse if gay marriage is allowed or if it isn't then it's comparable to the holocaust.

Personally i don't really care if it's allowed (or if you have some kind pseudo-marriage for same-sex marriages instead) simply because i don't have any plans of getting married and settling down. Maybe in far future I'll consider giving a damn.

Gay marriage is legal in Sweden since a while ago, if you're wondering.

Mrs. Zygote has the complete series on DVD, so if you can tell me the episode and scene, I'll at least be able to say, "I sort of know that guy, in a very superficial way".
Foster, I say Foster? Superficial? Why if that's not most ridiculous thing I ever hoyd. Cosmetic, too! I'd like two hard-boiled eggs. And one duck egg.

I was on (as a background actor) West Wing 3 times but am not sure of the episodes. They don't tell you that and I was already not a TV watcher at that time. I also think a lot of times they didn't even have a name for the episode during filming.

First time was When Darkness Descended On These Here United States (AKA Election Night in November 2000. Between shots, I watched, along with everyone else there, the returns and the Florida debacle on a soundstage at Warner Brothers). I was a Secret Service agent standing at a door entrance to the Oval Office. That one I'll never forget because Mr. Classiest Actor Ever, Martin Sheen, tapped me on the shoulder - stopped the shot, mind you - to welcome me to the show and to shake my hand. I was, understandably, non-plussed.

I was on maybe a month later as a Secret Service agent but it was just a walk down a hallway. 3rd and final time I was a Business Executive in some White House conference room, and that other guy, the balding guy (crap I have to google his name...AH...Bradley Whitford) came in and said something like, "Okay, let's get to work..."

Chances are you won't see me on that show, because you'd have to know the exact flash moment of where to look. But who knows? The only show I know of where you clearly see me is the Friends episode, the tux/formal party in the apartment, Courtney Cox's 30th birthday surprise party where she shows up drunk off her butt.

So if it doesn't effect you, it is not a cause your willing to fight for, even if it is in the right?

To each their own, but i find that line of logic more than a bit depressing. I'm bi and have no intentions of marrying anyone either, but i can understand that it is a huge right, and one to be given to everyone, even if i don't want it.

I will fight to the death (or at least serious injury) for someone's right to be weird. Same sex couples have as much right to screw up their lives as the rest of us.

The arguments over curtains must be pretty intense.

Swimming 5 km after the bomber you're in runs out of fuel and crashes into the sea? Yeah, that's really "girly"...

I am not in favour of gay marriage nor am I against it either.

However I give a :rule10 about whether those who ARE in favour of it have the right to do it or whether they should be discriminated against.
