Einstein, ICBMs and Lunar Laser Ranging
The flight path of an ICBM through space-time will vary greatly depending on the moon's location in relation to that flight path. The moon will BEND TIME AND SPACE more when the ICBM flies in front of it than it will when the missile flies on the other side, sans moon. Think of the tides.
So they use the LRRRs to study this and the laser paths themselves can be studied with regard to assessing the degree and nature of space-time bending.
This is the main reason why the Apollo project existed, to study the effect of the moon on ICBM trajectories.
