Gadhafi is in sooo much trouble...

Don't the Saudis hate him?

They are not exactly found of Ben Ali. However they have no interesting in allowing people to think that arab rulers can be brought to justice.

So now that he's forced the war to drag on well past the lightning copu with an extra shove it was meant to be, people are saying maybe Gaddafi can stay in Libya and avoid trial. Maybe they can skirt true justice at the ICC, in exchange for a political objective - stepping down.

Didn't know you could do that. "Hey, you, you must stand trial for murder! Unless I can have that nice car of yours..."

Still no credible evidence we've been allowed to see (and there've been plenty of effort to convince us) that any of these crimes happened. But there's every chance of conviction anyway if he does stand trial. Nice leverage.

And the rebel alliance of serial human rights abusers will be in charge of all Libya, it's hoped. Only, perhaps, a vote by "the Libyan people" (in Beghazi or countrywide?) stands in the way of that.

By the way, the rebels - Libya's legitimate government per Obama - are starting to seem like people who should be in some trouble too. Here's C.J. Chivers, New York Times, capping a series on the horrors visited upon "liberated" Qawalish. After the looted stores, about ten homes burnt, the gas station drained and burnt, livestock feed carted away (no civilian deaths - they all ran away in advance), a grim discovery- the first batch of dumped defenders.
Most of the pictures in that sequence are too gruesome to publish here. The dead men appeared to be wearing the olive green uniforms of pro-Qaddafi forces.

There were signs suggesting they had been executed and then lifted atop the basin and dropped down this hatch and hidden away from view. One of the men had his pants bunched down around his ankles. Another appeared to have been beheaded, though the orientation of the bodies made this not quite possible to verify without entering the basin
[...]
Who were these men? Who killed them? Why? None of this was clear. A sixth rotting body was buried under one of the olive trees to the left.
[...]
What happened to these men remains an open question. But official rebel sources have made their position clear, insisting that these are the remains of Qaddafi soldiers killed and hidden by other Qaddafi soldiers. The evidence for that claim is, principally, that the rebels say so. The possibility that some of rebels might have done this to their enemies has been rejected outright.
Killed for refusing to fight "the people" no doubt. Just like in al Baida.

The title of this thread should be updated to "Gadhafi is sooo much trouble...".

Five months, and still going.

Still there does seem to be some actual progress on the ground of late. The rebels do appear to be genuinly making progress in the Brega area and more significantly around Zlitan. NATO has started hitting tanks again which suggests that the rebels are doing things that are making them move.

Sooner or later he'll be gone. I'm just amazed it takes this long - and I was one of the pessimists when all this started.

Yeah. He stands accused - also, and with or without evidence - of plotting to kill King Fahd in 2003. One more exit blocked.
Accusation and evidence aside, he recently told King Abdullah to his face, on camera, that he was a British-American puppet who would be buried by his own lies. So yeah, no friendship there.
