Michelle Bachmann could be our next president.

I watched MSNBC and they were annoucing that Bachmann was the front runner every couple minutes for perhaps the last two hours I was watching. Are there other stations that are not backing her? I understand that FOX news is upset for some reason. I don't know. Is there some other viable candidate running that I don't know about. I remember reading Mit Romney's bio awhile back and thinking what an *******. Maybe the next step is to wiki Bachmann's bio before I decide where to send my 10 bucks.

No, I don't think that Bachmann is Fox's preferred candidate. If Roger Ailes is anything he's serious about getting a Republicans elected, and he probably sees Mitt Romney as the best chance.

Give your money to charity instead.

I have given small amounts of money to islamic charities. (no terrorist ones though) Your right I havent donated to a politician yet. I havent found one I liked strong enough to think it would make a difference. I do like chaos though and Bachmann is the strong chaos candidate in this election. She would be almost cthululike in the amount of damage she could cause with her as president and republicans controlling the house and senate.

Bachmann said:
“I'm introducing myself now to the American people so that they can know that I have a strong academic scholarly background, more important I have a real life background,” Bachmann said.

I have given up playing grammar Nazi. It is not important to point out every flaw. However, when one brags about how scholarly one is and one makes a grammar error in the same sentence, I fell compelled to point out the irony. "Importantly," Congresswoman Bachman, you meant to say "more importantly."

Not to mention the inane redundancy of Bachmann describing her background as both "academic" and "scholarly".

Few things sound as stupid as a stupid person trying to sound smart.

Tangentially, why do Democrats elect so very many not-attractive women?

Thanks for teaching me how the game is played.

The next time I am in a JREF thread in which a Democrat's faults are being discussed, I'll be sure to ask "Why do so many high ranking Republican men want to touch other men's ***** ?"

Blue Moon Ale on keyboard, delivered via nose.

Thanks.

The latest Bachmann goof up.

It seems her campaign has been playing Tom Petty's song "Ameican Girl" after her stump speaches. Petty issued her a cease and desist order which she is apparently ignoring as they have not stopped playing the song.

The kicker: The song is about a girl who commits suicide.

Well, that's almost as bad as all the patriotic ding-dongs who play "Born in the USA"

I think she should play Hall & Oates: "Crazy Eyes"

And of course for Herman Cain:

"This is the story of the Herman Cain
. . . at one time he could -a been
The president of the world!"

Or an ellipsis for "what's more important, ..." If this was from a spoken sentence, I'd let it pass.

I hope she's ignored the cease and desist request long enough for Petty to sue her for some real money. Then the scandal will be when that money is paid out from the campaign budget, much to the chagrin of donors. Either that, or she tries to fundraise for her failed run after the election, and donors are reluctant to pony up knowing that some of it went to settle a lawsuit that should have been avoided.

I must say, though, even knowing what the song is really about, I still think Obama should get permission and use the chorus during his campaign stops this time around.

For no other reason than to thumb his nose at the birthers.

Boy, Tom sure does seem to have problems with Republicans borrowing his songs. I think he had to file a restraining order against GW Bush to keep him from using "I Won't Back Down" as a campaign song.

I was born near Waterloo, Iowa. (By coincidence, I now work in Waterloo, Ontario.) It takes no great brain to know that John Wayne, originally Marion Morrison, was born in Winterset. Winterset is in Madison County, and is where by coincidence the movie "The Bridges of Madison County" was filmed, some scenes being fillmed a few paces from his birthplace. (During filming, Clint Eastwood and I shopped at the same Taerget store, but that is just another coincidence.)

Johnny Carson was born in Corning, Iowa. Herbert Hoover was born in West Branch. Mamie Eisenhower, wife of the 34th president) was born in Boone (her home now sits on the land where by coincidence my grandmother used to live). Elijah Wood and Terry Ferrell came from Cedar Rapids. Wyatt Earp came from Pella. Harry Reasoner was from Dakota City (near where my grandparents lived, by coincidence). Brandon Routh (who by coincidence went to the same university I did, at the same time) is from Norwalk. Donna Reed was born in Denison. James Van Allen was born in Mount Pleasant (and was my Astronomy professor by coinci ... aw, to heck with it). Bill Daily and Cloris Leachman attended Roosevelt High School in Des Moines. Dear Abby and Ann Landers were from Iowa, so was Folger's Coffee's Mrs. Olsen, so was Norman Borlaug, and so was guy who wrote "The Music Man."

Let's not forget that some dude named Ronald Reagan (though born in Illinois) got his major broadcasting start in Iowa. Some other dude named Burt Lancaster filmed his final movie there, near Dyersville. Cary Grant died in Iowa, hours before he was scheduled to go on stage in Davenport (for "An Evening with Cary Grant").

Movies shot partly in Iowa include "Bridges of Madison County," "Field of Dreams," "FIST," "Take This Job and Shove It," "Cold Turkey," "Puppetmasters," "Miles From Home" and "The Straight Story."

As for Waterloo, what notables were from Waterloo? Well, for starters, the Sullivan Brothers! ANYONE from Waterloo would know THAT! (There is a major edifice in the city in their honor.) Olympic Wrestling Gold Medalist and esteemed coach Dan Gable went to Waterloo's West High School. President Herbert Hoover's wife, Lou, was from Waterloo.

A bit o' advice, to any presidential candidate of any party: if you're going to come and pander to Iowans, for goodness's sake, do your damn homework.

Doesn't surprise me. I think any artist would be upset about their work being used, without their permission, to support a cause they are opposed to. (Yes, I am assuming, from context, that Petty is Democratic leaning)

I get the majority of my news from NPR, and Bachmann is certainly the hot topic currently.
The coverage is obviously trying (too hard, IMO) to be "balanced" with very little mention of her more extreme views and numerous gaffes.
