11:11, 4:44, 1:11 etc.

If you add up all of the numbers in the time you can see where the evil is

Look at Howie's post. 12:30 adds up to 6, and he's talking about the devil.

fromdownunder, 2:22 adds up to six, he mentions 6:00, and work. *********** evil.

EHocking has a cute, witty post and it was 7:07

I rest my case. ETA: LOOK <---- 10:17. A good time for numerology.

It goes deeper than you think, Joey. Your calculations are based on the time zone you occupy, and the time zones were set up and regulated by...wait for it...THE GOVERNMENT!

Mods: Can we get this thread moved to the combination Numerology Woo/Conspiracy Theory/Anti-Illuminati/Evil Gummint subforum that needs to be created, please?

I'd love to do an experiment where you got different groups of people to pay attention to different number combinations and see what "patterns" they found.

Interesting thought... would we still see this sort of confirmation bias if we had 6 fingers on each hand and 6 toes on each foot? Would our counting system still be base 10?

Yes and no, I suspect.

Amazingly, when I leave work just after 11:00, I usually see 11:11 on my car radio! I think the brain works on quantum binary!

I guess so. And with a 12 digit counting system, the number of times the clock would show the same digits would be even less (12 items in stead of 10), so we would notice them even more.

I see it a lot too. around here when you notice it people say 'make a wish'

Wait, wait. Are you saying there are people who see a certain combination of numbers on a digital clock and then make wishes under the belief that wishes made after seeing specific combination of numbers are more likely to come true than wishes made at other times of day?

I apologise, but this just came to mind....

Bluebottle: Eccles, my man, what’s the time, what it is?
Eccles: Just a minute. I asked a man what was the time, and asked him to write it on a piece of paper.
Bluebottle: What does the piece of paper say?
Eccles: It says that the time is ten minutes past eight.
Bluebottle: Oooh. I wish I had a piece of paper like that. Tell me, my man, what do you do if the time isn’t ten minutes past eight?
Eccles: Then I don’t show them the piece of paper.
Bluebottle: But how do you know what is the time?
Eccles: Because I’ve got it written on a piece of paper!

I probably didn't get it word perfect, so apologies to Spike Milligan as well...

I'll get my coat. :)

Having a strong maths and science background, I find I tend to notice very different combinations from other people. Just having the same number repeated is much less interesting than things like the Fibonacci sequence or primes. Also, for some reason I seem to find symmetry more noticeable than simple repetition, so I'd be more likely to notice 25:52 than 22:22, for example. Probably not on a clock though.

Incidentally, I had a major case of this just a couple of days ago. My alarm clock displays time, date and the time the alarm is set. Just as I was getting up it said 11:11 11:11 11:11. What this mainly tells me is I should probably get around to setting the date on it at some point, and that deliberately setting the alarm to 11:11 is probably a bit sad.

I'm almost certain I'd find a clock displaying 25:52 to be very noticeable indeed.

Being able to sleep in 'til 11:11 is anything but sad.

:)
