Germany now shutting down nuclear reactors

Hey as long as the German people have their renewables powered by coal the rest of the world be damned.

Its never good when people decide anything they don't understand. That includes politicians too unfortunately.

The electricity still has to come from somewhere though. So all you are doing is transferring the problem. Its ideologically nonsense to say we'll turn off our nuclear plants and buy electricity from French nuclear plants.

I'm sure there are grids that run on more than 10% renewables, aren't there? Could you expand on some of this? I'm not saying your wrong but I'm not up to speed with the idea that nuclear is a useful technology for responding to demand.

So you let other people decide for you in most matters in life?

its actually quite easy. Nuclear power comes with a risk, and a problem of waste.
People in Germany are not ready to take that risk. nor do they trust in the waste storages.

So they don't want nuclear power. What do they not understand?

Its pure arrogance (and we find that on JREF extremely often) to say they just don't understand enough about it, so they should not have a say about it.

So what are they going to do in place of it? Burn more coal? Buy the energy needed from some other nation?

All forms of power produce waste. To neglect that fact means that your a rube who can't be bothered to think beyond simple hysteria.
How many quid pro quo's do you need to stop trying to troll me? Apparently 123 are still not enough. Boring and bordering the alleged mark of insanity.
Well as long as you aren't responding to anyone and have your fingers stuck in your ears its a lot more fun to troll you. Seriously, you never did explain how Germany can actually substain its building of solar cells when there have all ready been issues with demand outpacing supply.

THe real irony is if they choose option #2, which is probable, it will almost certainly be Nuclear power they will purchasing.

I believe that the only ones are in places that are

A: Not exactly first world industrialised countries
B. have far smaller populations than Germany and
C. Have access to some seriously beneficial natural resources.

The only one that springs to mind is Paraguay, which is 100% Hydro-electric, but has a population of 6,349,000 and

Has a HDI score of 0.640 (medium) compared to Germany 0.885 (very high).
Has a GDP of - Total $28.452 billion
- Per capita $4,700

Compared again to Germany

- Total $3.305 trillion
- Per capita $40,511

So....Yeah. If anyone can think of another one, particularly one with a high GDP, HDI and a comparable population then feel free to contradict me.

Iceland does for everything but the population. Of course, they also have the advantage of some crazy natural energy producers that the rest of us don't.

Has the concept of "using less energy" ever occurred to you?

It is possible, you know.

Maybe we just resent being lied to for several decades abouts the risks of nuclear power and the risks of storing nuclear waste.

Maybe we just resent being accused of "hysteria" all the time just before it turns out that, yes, the nuclear power worshippers and their paid shills were lying through their teeth.

OOo yes this truely is such a rational screed. However could I have been mistaken.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

And Fukishima has highlighted this how?

A 40 year old plant that survived a 9 earthquake and even after 10m tsunami they still managed to bring it under control?

Seriously?

Of course it is. But can Germany make sufficient reductions to compensate for the energy they are no longer producing via through nuclear power? That's the question. And if they can't then the necessary power must come from somewhere else.

You are the second person I have seen accuse, either directly by name or as part of a larger group, those who support nuclear energy as participating in some manner of cover-up in the days following the Sendai quake.

This behavior is uncommon outside the CT/911 CT sections of the forum.

You should consider why that is.

I´m not talking about the Sendai quake.

I´m talking, for example, about the fact that the Asse nuclear waste dump was promoted as stable and safe for decades where, in reality, it not only is unstable and leaks, but had been known to those doing the promoting to be unstable and prone to leaking from day 1.

I´m talking, for example, about how, over and over again, it turns out the companies who run nuclear power plants are covering up accidents and mishap and NOTHING happens as a consequence.

I´m talking, for example, about how we´re told, over and over again, that nothing bad can happend with nuclear power plants, until something bad that can´t possibly happen DOES happen, after which we´re told, over and over again, that the impossible bad thing that did happen can´t ever possibly happen elsewhere, and besides, nothing else bad can ever possibly happen to a nuclear power plant. Until, of course, it does.

Why do I suspect we have a Green Party supporter here?
Wait what???? Why???

Ooo yeah. I'll just reiterate this. If you are so sane and rational explain to me why there are multiple people on this forum promoting technologies from which the materials needed to make them are ridiculously rare.
