JERUSALEM (JTA) -- An Israeli Cabinet committee approved the construction of hundreds of housing units in West Bank settlements, supposedly in response to a suspected terrorist attack that killed five members of a West Bank Jewish family.

The construction announced Sunday morning was approved Saturday night by a committee meeting in special session a day after the gruesome murders of Udi and Ruth Fogel, and three of their six children in the settlement of Itamar.

The vote, after several months of no new construction approval, is for 500 housing units in Gush Etzion, Ma'ale Adumim, Ariel and Kiryat Sefer. The settlements are believed to be among those that will remain as part of Israel under a peace agreement with the Palestinians.

strawman. (lots going around I see ;))

no one has blamed the children.

But the parents deserved to get knifed in their beds? And can be blamed for their children being stabbed to death?

Tell me, would it be fair for a native american to sneak into houses in manhatten and slit the inhabitants throats?

No. The claim is that the CIA is better at understanding definitions than you are. Same goes for Solana, the EU's representative at the time he commented. (Or their advisors/etc).
The CIA does not set US State Dept. policy on whether or not Gaza is occupied.

The CIA factbook is simply collated data from other government agencies. It is not a window into the intelligence the CIA has gathered.

'fair' is relative.
maybe had they slit the throats of the first generation of land thieves, it would be comparable.

I didn't say it does. (Good thing I added "(Or their advisors/etc)" before you posted -- shows I've been paying attention. And also shows how you cannot be relied upon to understand a statement that has multiple parts.)

You make it sound like the status of Gaza is a secret which spies have to uncover.

Now show me that the CIA is careless in how it collates data. That when it publishes data, it doesn't understand the meaning of the words it uses.

And also explain how moving things on to the State dept helps your argument.

The United States, the European Union, and the United Nations....ALL consider Gaza to still be Israeli-occupied.

that's good enough for me!!! :)

..why isn't it good enough for you?

Actually this is exactly what you are doing, making a pathetic appeal to authority. "Oh look the CIA sez it iz occupied ur pwned lololol".

No show me that the CIA is careless in how it collates data. That when it publishes data, it doesn't understand the meaning of the words it uses.

I already explained to you why the State Dept. chooses to lump Gaza in with the West Bank. Because officially, they are both ruled by the PA. Even though the reality is the PA currently has no influence at all in Gaza or what goes on there.

Yes FG, for diplomatic reasons governments often call a mouse a horse in public despite acknowledging reality in private. If you didn't believe this before you certanly should know this now after wikileaks published all those diplomatic cables.

Tha fact remains that Gaza is not occupied by any traditional definition of the word. It is occupied according to a definition that applies exclusively to Israel.

Also, you don't get to claim Gaza is occupied and then screech in outrage every time the IDF enters the place, or puts restrictions on what enters and leaves.

ah...that would explain why there is no further encroachment of israelis in the west bank....
get real.....

....nonsense.
the 'occupation ' is unjust....
The "occupation" could end today if the Palestinians decided they want peace instead of endless war. The PA wants all the trappings of statehood but none of the responsibilities. They want a state whose top and really only priority is attacking Israel. Needless to say, Israel is not about to allow that.

yeah, its only occupied in the legal sense.

;)

yeah, the US government is anti-Semitic. cute.

When Hamas won their seats in the Governorate , they kicked out the PA by force shortly after. There is no PA presence in the Strip - Hamas is the de facto authority. It's hard to have a transitional period that allows the transfer of authority (see: control of borders and security) from Israel to the PA when gangsters like Hamas pop up.

Perhaps if Hamas abandons its' weapons the process could proceed?
