Reports are saying he was on the beach taking photos of the tsunami waves with two other friends. They escaped and he didn't.

He must have gotten a heck of a picture. Hopefully he had a waterproof camera.

According to the report, he & 2 others "went out to watch the tsunami"... on the beach... so yeah he should get a nom.

Not quite as bad as surfing ...but yeah, he qualifies.
BTW even when the waves settle down, they are warning people not to go out onto the water for a few days, since the after effects of even a mild Tsunami wave make currents and undertwos very unpredictable, and normally safe areas to swim and surf will be hazardous because of unstable currents.
I suspect the State will close all the State park beaches and urge local governments to do the same.

It's not as if you pointed a finger and went "AH HA !" But I don't personally think it's very respectful to crack jokes at the situation. I didn't laugh on 2001-09-11. Neither did I laugh after.

What I found amazing, in one of the pieces of footage they showed, was that office workers continued banging at their computers. What were they doing? Tweeting?

I can understand people continuing to work if their job is critical. The control tower at SeaTac during the Nisqually quake was shaking and the windows shattering and the heroic air control traffic operator continued telling aircraft to abort their landings.

But I'm with you on so many of the images, here we are drilling constantly to get under a desk or table and almost no one in any of the clips is taking cover. I think I saw one guy get under a table after a good 30-40 seconds of shaking.

2139: Radiation levels at the damaged Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear plant are continuing to rise. The Jiji Press news agency says the levels are eight times above normal. Its report also cites a ministry official as saying there is a "possibility of a radioactive leak".

Exactly what I found weird. I thought the Japanese would know to hide under their desks? But no, they continued working or filming.

Sadly, you see this after every major disaster nowdays.
I don't believe in Hell, but if I did I would hope a really hot place is reserved for scum like this.
Bottom line:Give only to reputable charities with a solid history.

Disconcerting. They're getting 4-5 or even more aftershocks per hour. Most are between 5 and 6.
