Huckabee Attacks Natalie Portman...

So according to you, what Bristol Palin is doing depends on the belief that the cause of unwanted pregnancies is ignorance of the connection between sex and pregnancy?

If that's true, then Bristol is still an idiot.

According to me that is not what I said she believes.

If Huck wanted to make a point about how being a single mother might not be a great idea, fine; his mistake was making a personal attack on Portman in order to do so.

What crap. It's not fine. Huck's attack on single mothers was as poorly informed as his claim Obama was raised in Kenya. I posted in the other thread evidence that 70% of single mothers are employed down from 74% since the recession. And their education level is not much different from the rest of the population if you consider single teenage mothers are of course, not high school graduates. Neither are their non-parent peers.

I would no more chastise and condemn Bristol Palin, who was an unmarried teenager when she got pregnant, than I would Ann Dunham, the mother of President Barack Obama who was also an unmarried teenager when she got pregnant.

Why anyone would criticize either mother is beyond me...

One didn't make her situation into a national soap opera, but simply raised her kid and made a life for herself. The other is a twit.

Nobody is dumb enough to honestly miss this.

Excuse me, please answer this question. Exactly what did Huckabee do wrong here? Fact number one: This woman is a role model. Fact number two: Getting pregnant without a father, is not the best way to go for the baby according to the statistics. If you go to the source and read or listen to what Huckabee really said -- instead of the Radical Progressive spin -- he said it in non-treatening and non-attacking way. So what did Huckabee do wrong?

People are not statistics. Her choice to have a child is hers alone and it's very personal. To attack her for being a single mother is stupid, considering that she has plenty of resources to care for the child. The "statistics" don't take into account economic factors, do they?

Are these "statistics" from the same sources that show "statistics" that homosexuals are more prone to be pedophiles?

You've also fallen for myths propogated by the evangelical right.

children of single parents are no worse off, or better, than children from "nuclear" families.

People make statistics. So, that is kind of a wired comment. You mean people are not numbers? Do you think Neocons are so stupid that they do not know the difference between numbers and people? Is this the source for Progressive pride -- that they pride themselves in knowing that human beings are not numbers whilst assuming that the political Right do not?

Depending on what the statistics represent, people actually are statistics.

You are confusing two issues here. The fact that she has lots of money to raise a kid has nothing to do with this issue. It is not a related point.

In an unintentional way, you are supporting what Huckabee is saying. He is saying that not every single mother has the resources that Natalie Portman has. So, in fact, you are in agreement with Huckabee on this item.

Portman's kid may or may not turn out great. That does not change the fact that most kids raised without a father figure do really really badly in life.

Portman is a role model. Here is another statistic. Young people tend to emulate what they see in movies and on television. They copy the fashion, language, and even life style of move and television stars. I have heard that a collation between teen pregnancy and the sexual practices of characters on television sitcoms.

The idea that human beings are not influenced by entertainment and have the capacity to make decision for themselves is a notion that has been disproved.

Are these "statistics" from the same sources that show "statistics" that homosexuals are more prone to be pedophiles?

I will have to study this link.

But, in the mean time:

This has nothing to do with gay people. In fact, I am for gay marrage since kids are better off raised by loving parents than foster parents. The more marrages, the better.

The fact that some statistics are from some questionable source is Ad Homemim.

Basically, you assume Huckabee is a meanie and so you are coming to Portman's defense. That is really what is going on here, right?

Portman signed up for this sort of exposure and criticism by becoming a celebrate. We should not feel sorry for her. Huckabee is not attacking some unknown average person. Instead he is trying to shed some light for the benefit of all the unknown average persons. Hurt the feelings of some well-paid multimillionaire in the lap of luxury is a small price to pay for helping the masses.

What about all that I have heard that most prisoners were raised by single parents? Is that also a myth?

Wait, that article you linked to supports Huckabee's position if you read further, on the next page it referrs to single parenthood leads to other issues that can impact the well being of the child.

http://www.ivillage.com/single-parent-myths-uncovered/6-a-127680?p=3
A carefully controlled study (Nelson, 1993) found income level to be the deciding factor related to children's self-esteem. Because single-parent families are often also low-income households, children's self-esteem is likely to be lower...

In fact, if you go back to Huckabee's comment he pretty much falls in line with this information and stresses the economic factor.

I am going to study the sources that your article cites. Experience tells me the author took things out of context. It is how the Left seems to roll.

Attacking non-combatants. As Dan Quayle learned with Candice Bergman/Murphy Brown, blaming people who are not in the fray makes a politician look cowardly and stupid.

So Portman should have said to herself, "Well, I love my husband to be very much, and while we want a child together, I've done a lot in my life, have a good career, am very respected in my field, my boyfriend and myself are both very financially secure, I've got my degree, it's a good time in both of our lives, and we would make great parents, so it's too bad that because I'm in the public eye it would be irresponsible of me to have a child because people might draw the wrong conclusion."

Yeah, this makes sense in no way.

Consider this. Charlie Sheen has chosen to go on coke binges. He describes the experience as being Epic. Well, is it wrong of someone speaks out against it? Poor Charlie Sheen. Would you say if some politician said it not a good role model, that would be a bad thing? Would you say it is wrong to talk badly about going on coke binges? Would that be picking on poor Charlie Sheen? I mean Charlie Sheen is rich and can afford a defibrillator and handlers to make sure he does not OD. He can afford handlers who make sure he does not mix combinations of street drugs that will kill him.

Ah but most of us are not as rich as Charlie Sheen. What about the poor kids and young adults who think of emulating him?

Natalie Portman has chosen to have a kid without a partner. I am sure she must think it is a blessing. Well, is it wrong of someone speaks out against it? Poor Natalie Portman. Would you say if some politician said it not a good role model, that would be a bad thing? Would you say it is wrong to talk badly about going on coke binges? Would that be picking on poor Natalie Portman? I mean Natalie Portman is rich and can afford a full time child care at home and even tutors so that a father does not have to sit with the kid and read to him or her.

Ah but most young women are not as rich as Natalie Portman. What about the poor girls who think of emulating her and other famous people like her? What exactly is wrong with someone saying, "hey, this is not a good way for poor people to go"?

And then when I ask what is wrong with it, you show me a link to a web site that is supposed to dispel the "myth" and yet when I read further it actually supports what Huckabee says.

It is not all about politics. It should be about logic and common sense. My Liberal cousins say that this is not "how the game is played". To them, accepting the cartoonish second-hand hearsay characterizations of RIght Wing politicians is honorable. If you listen to what Huckabee R_E_A_L_L_Y says, he does not attack Natalie Portman at all.

The stupid does not look good on you, Ken, so please, stop wearing that outfit. :p

Getting killed for having(or while trying to get) an abortion is quite a possibility, particularly in Kansas.

But, to the point, abstinence is not the only fool proof way to avoid having a child. It's not even the only way to avoid getting pregnant.

I heard exactly what he said and it was a BIG FAT INSULTING TO WOMEN LIE!!

Misogynists may have a hard time understanding why Huckabee's comments were insulting to women. I'm notsaying Bill is a misogyinist.

Bill, for all your moralizing, outrage at the perceived injustices of Liberals, and ranting and raving...Would it kill you, just once, to know what the hell you're talking about before going off half-cocked?

Natalie Portman does have a partner. Coincidentally, he happens to be the child's father! I know, whodathunkit?

His name is Benjamin Millepied, and he is the principle dancer at the New York Ballet. The happy couple are engaged to be married.

Oh, well, that is completely different.

Nevermind.

Nice try, Emily.

Bill Thompson Before He Realized How Stupid It Made Him Look and Edited It said:
LOL !! Do you have me confused with someone else?

Sorry, I could not get past your fist few words. It is kind of like when I read the ffirst page of the Book of Mormon. I did not see any reason to go on when something is so far from reality.

Emily? Was that the character from SNL's first season?

By the way, the guy can easily just walk away. It would be a bigger legal deal if he walked away after the weding. But it is not so bad if he just leaves her before the weding and the birth.

It still sets a bad example for girls who think their boyfriend is going to stick around just because they are pregnant and have promised to marry them.

It might be splitting hairs but I can see lots of girls assuming that this is the way to go and rebel against their parents and get pregnant to the guy with the soulful eyes because they know in their heart that he will stay with them forever even after thay get pregnant. And it does not work out very well. It happens. Apparently it happens a lot. Apparently it happnes because of culture, role models and peer pressure. That is how it seems to me from what I have heard and seen from news sources.

And, no, I did not edit the post because I thought I was wrong or I thought the post was stupid. I just thought it was laughable that you assumed I was full of moral rage.

But then I decided to read the rest of your post.
