Penultimate Amazing
No, not at all. The weak point is the 2x4 joists, and possibly their connections (are they just toe-nailed or are brackets used?), and that is what will fail.
Exactly!
Let's bring this down to the simplest form. We place two posts such that there is an 8 foot distance between them. Use joist hangers to connect a 2X4X8' between the posts. Hang a mass at the center of the 2X4 and keep increasing this mass until one of two things happens 1) the 2X4 snaps, 2) the joist hangers fail.
Now increase the size of the posts but keep the open span the same. The mass required to cause failure will remain the same except in Ander's world where the increased post size will somehow allow a greater mass to be supported by the 2X4
