Steel shipped to China...

there is WTC steel on display at the Staten Island Botanical Garden. You can touch it and even scrape it if u like.

Some of it ended up in a lot of 9/11 Memorials across the country, including one at the California State Fairgrounds in Sacramento. If they were trying to keep anybody from examining samples of it by shipping it overseas, they had a epic fail.
Ft Worth just got a couple of pretty big chunks for a memorial...

I still have yet to hear the answer to SO WHAT? from a Truther!

Was it Carole King who wrote the song "Anticipation"? Well, I'm singing it right now!

This reminds me of that Jesse Ventura 9/11 episode where he says that all of the steel was shipped off to China while he was looking at some of it through a window at the warehouse where some of it is stored. What really made me crack up was while he was going on about not being able to get into the building to look at while there was a doorbell button RIGHT THERE IN THE SAME SHOT THAT HE WAS STANDING IN WHILE HE SAID IT. Now I'm no rocket surgeon or anything like that but even I know that step one is to try and ring the doorbell (Ok maybe step 2, after seeing if the door is already open/unlocked).

God bless Jesse Ventura (ITIAG), the man is so far gone! I just hope Mr. Schwarzenegger never goes down this path!

Bill Manning, editor of Fire Engineering magazine, said the “official investigation…is a half-baked farce that may already have been commandeered by political forces whose primary interests, to put it mildly, lie far afield of full disclosure.”

And do you realize WHEN he said that?

January of 2002.

Here is his WHOLE article.

http://www.fireengineering.com/inde...ors-opinion/elling-out-the-investigation.html

He is also talking about the FEMA investigation. NOT the comprehensive NIST investigation.

But hey, good job on quotemining, as always.

The impression I get from truthers that use the claim is that since 9/11 was a criminal act, all the steel (at least the stuff that wasn't dustified, of course) should have been retained as evidence for the investigation... and tested for the magical incendiary/explosive/incendiary super-duper-ultra-mega-nano-therm*te, of course.
And then, of course, you're supposed to use it to reconstruct the towers.

Same thing at the 9/11 Memorial at the Cal Expo..the California State Fair Grounds....in Sacramento.

To non-Truthers, people who rightly saw nothing unusual in the way the buildings collapsed, the steel was just something in the way of the more important task of body recovery. To those who were storing the steel it was a nuisance that, if quickly sold, might help them offset the enormous cost of WTC site cleanup. China had thousands of construction sites desperate for steel around that time so it just made sense that a lot of it ended up there.

Only later, when delusional paranoids started saying the buildings were brought down by explosives/nukes/laser beams/fairy dust, did this removal of steel become an issue.

But since nobody back in September/October 2001 had any idea that delusional idiots would come wanting to test the steel for explosives/nukes/laser beams/fairy dust it was just the expedient thing to do to get rid of it.

How did this thread turn to the black boxes and how did I know the subject would change once I ask a truther a question?

If I wanted to know about whether planes were used during the attacks, I would have posted a separate thread on the subject. However, I am asking about why there are claims that the steel was shipped to China right away when in actuality the steel was stored at Fresh Kills landfill.

But why didn't they examine the rubble more thoroughly? It's not only me who finds that strange:

"Some 185,101 tons of structural steel have been hauled away from Ground Zero. Most of the steel has been recycled as per the city's decision to swiftly send the wreckage to salvage yards in New Jersey. The city's hasty move has outraged many victims' families who believe the steel should have been examined more thoroughly. Last month, fire experts told Congress that about 80% of the steel was scrapped without being examined because investigators did not have the authority to preserve the wreckage."

Several off-topic posts have been moved to Abandon All Hope. Most of the content of those posts would be fine if they were posted in, for example, a separate thread about the black boxes or a separate thread about the construction design of the WTC towers, but they are off-topic in this thread. Please stick to the subject and if you want to discuss other, completely separate subjects, do so in the appropriate threads. Gracias.

and yet, NO truthers plan on going to these pieces of WTC steel to scrape off a sample to test for thermite, termites, etc etc.

you know why? cause' they don't really care.

U.S.S. Somerset:

http://tribune-democrat.com/local/x519170284/9-11-steel-poured-for-USS-Somerset

Twenty-two tons of steel from one of the large cranes was melted and poured Wednesday for the stemhold of the USS Somerset, a Navy vessel being constructed in honor of Flight 93’s passengers and crew.

................

The USS Somerset, USS Arlington and USS New York are among three ships that will honor the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001. Twenty-one tons of steel from the former World Trade Center were used in the construction of the USS New York.

Well, what do you know Truthers, there's 21 tons of WTC steel right there (U.S.S. New York). I tell ya, Truthers are idiots!

Again, several off-topic posts have been moved to Abandon All Hope. Look, the thread topic here is pretty straightforward. It's not about the black boxes, airplane parts, engine parts, construction design of the WTC towers, etc.

The subject, please stick to it. Further derails will result in infractions.
Replying to this modbox in thread will be off topic  Posted By: LashL

Here it is once again:

OP said:
Why is it important to explain that the steel from the World Trade Center was cut into smaller sections and shipped off overseas to China and other foreign countries?

I have read (red) some truther blogs where the explanation is that the steel was shipped off to China RIGHT AWAY! This is not true, of course, because the steel was stored at Fresh Kills landfill on Staten Island for a period of time. Some of the steel was later stored in a hangar that became property of New York and New Jersey Port Authority. (link)

However, there is the question of what happened to the rest of the steel and it's possible that some it might have been recycled, or reused. And yes, a good portion of that steel most likely got shipped overseas...

...SO WHAT?

Right, no one thought the collapses of the bldgs looked suspicious. After we get past this doozy of yours, let's consider one of the paranoid twoofies who refutes nearly all of your simplistic rationalization for the spoliation of the evidence.

March 12, 2002: Structural Engineer Criticizes Decision to Destroy WTC Steel A structural engineer who was a member of the team assembled by the American Society of Civil Engineers to investigate the World Trade Center site after 9/11 complains about the decision to rapidly destroy the remaining structural steel from the collapsed WTC buildings. Dr. Abolhassan Astaneh-Asl is a professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of California at Berkeley, and specializes in studying structural damage done by earthquakes and terrorist bombings. [Chronicle of Higher Education, 12/7/2001; CBS News, 3/11/2002; Associated Press, 9/6/2002] He had come to New York a week after 9/11 to examine the collapsed towers, hoping to gain an understanding of how they had come down (see September 19-October 2001). [New York Times, 10/2/2001; US Congress. House. Committee on Science, 3/6/2002] However, New York City officials had decided early on to quickly transport the remaining structural steel to scrap yards, to be shipped abroad and melted down for reuse (see Shortly After September 11, 2001). As CBS News now reports, “As a result, Astaneh has almost certainly missed seeing crucial pieces before they were cut up and sent overseas.” Astaneh-Asl complains: “When there is a car accident and two people are killed, you keep the car until the trial is over. If a plane crashes, not only do you keep the plane, but you assemble all the pieces, take it to a hangar, and put it together. That’s only for 200, 300 people, when they die. In this case you had 3,000 people dead.” He says: “My wish was that we had spent whatever it takes, maybe $50 million, $100 million, and maybe two years, get all this steel, carry it to a lot. Instead of recycling it, put it horizontally, and assemble it. You have maybe 200 engineers, not just myself running around trying to figure out what’s going on. After all, this is a crime scene and you have to figure out exactly what happened for this crime, and learn from it.” However, he adds, “My wish is not what happens.” [CBS News, 3/12/2002] Astaneh-Asl previously told the New York Times that the scrap steel from the WTC was “worth only a few million dollars, a tiny fraction of the billions of dollars the cleanup will cost.” Yet the knowledge that could be gained from it “could save lives in a future disaster.” [New York Times, 10/2/2001]

Only a stupid, paranoid twoofie would think there was any reason to keep the steel.
