Charlie Sheen thinks Being Sober is boring.....

Being sober may be boring, but not as boring as watching anything Charlie Sheen's been in for the last twenty years.

The man needs help, not condemnation or praise.

Well, then he shouldn't come to the JREF then.

More seriously, yes he needs help but if a very, very public figure starts criticizing the help he is getting, then I say there is nothing inappropriate about commenting on him on the internet.

Personally, I offer him both praise and condemnation. I admire his perspicacity and wittiness. When he was caught in his first prostitution scandal and was asked why he spent tens of thousands of dollars each month on prostitutes, he replied "once you have dated a porn star you can't go back to regular sex." I condemn him for thinking the solution to a prostitution habit is to marry a fundamentalist Christian. I admire him for seeking help this time around. When he was in the hospital, he was so close to death that the doctors called his ex-wife - and she came.

I hope he makes it. But I am not ready to put money on that proposition.

.........................
As for the workers, if your livelihood depends on Charlie Sheen being sober and you haven't been squirreling away 15% of your paychecks for a rainy day, then you deserve whatever comes your way.

Although Charlie Sheen dying does put to end the possibility of another Hot Shots sequel...

If it hurts no-one, I say live and let live, but it's just a bit sad if he's unable to enjoy some of mankind's quieter pursuits, e.g.

Yes, sad I agree. I guess I'm lucky that I'm easily amused; it must suck to not be able to enjoy ordinary fun things.

The man needs help, not condemnation or praise.

Help with what? He needs help if he wants to be sober, but it doesn't sound like that's what he wants. If all he wants out of life is what he's got, then he doesn't need help with it.

Trying to convince someone to want something, other than what they really want, may be in their best interests but seems futile.

"I exercise regularly. I eat moderate amounts of healthy food. I make sure to get plenty of rest. I see my doctor once a year and my dentist twice a year. I floss every night. I've had chest x-rays, cardio stress tests, EKG's and colonoscopies. I see a psychologist (when needed) and have a variety of hobbies to reduce stress. I don't drink. I don't smoke. I don't do drugs. I don't have crazy, reckless sex with strangers. If Charlie Sheen outlives me, I'm really going to be pissed........"

I think he outlives you every weekend.

Just sayin':p

All it requires to get sober/off the crack... is to stop taking it.
And really mean it.

Yeah, that basset!
All that money to appear in an auto-biographical sit-com, with all the perks/pussy/drugs that come with that...
Damn him!
I say "Damn him!" .... Sob!

Charlie Sheen hasn't hit the bottom yet. Some people have to hit the bottom before they'll realize they have a problem. If he's still making excuses, no drug treatment program in the world will be able to help him. He might go through the motions, under pressure from the people around him, if he cares enough about them, but it doesn't stick. He's not even at the first step.

How many drug rehab counselors does it take to change a light bulb?

Only one, but the light bulb has to WANT to change.

Yeah, even if they cancel the show because they don't want to put up with Sheen they will have to broadcast something. If that something is another comedy or drama it will provide work for writers, technicians, etc. However, there's also a possibility they will replace his show with reruns. Or with a reality show. Something that doesn't require the same large staff that a scripted comedy or drama needs.
Broadcast networks don't really replace shows with reruns per se - they use reruns as filler because most scripted shows don't do more than 25 episodes per year.
Actually I have seen them replace canceled shows with reruns in the past. (Not a permanent change, but just until the new season starts.) But then, that's part of the issue right now: There is talk about shortening the season, which means fewer episodes/less work for the crew.

Even then, year-round programming has become more common with the ascension of "reality" television, so there are probably fewer reruns shown now than in the past (which, in combination with the rise of first-run cable television, I'm pretty sure results in a net increase in TV industry jobs).
Pretty sure?

Plus, we are talking about one specific case here. Its like getting fired from Microsoft because Bob didn't sell well. Granted, there were other jobs in the industry, but I suspect very few people want to have to change jobs or enjoy the uncertainty, even if other jobs exist.

Granted, I'm sure the people working there are fairly well paid (after all, whatever show they work on eventually gets canceled anyways and they have to plan for that eventuality.) Still, it would be a bummer for a low-level tech guy to find your income cut short because Sheen went on a bender, only to see your show replaced by reruns of CSI.
TV has always been a fickle employer in that fashion. Anyone working on any TV show could lose his or her job in the middle of working on a season. That it might be due to Charlie Sheen's douchitude rather than the whims of a network executive doesn't make it any more or less a bummer to my mind.
Yeah, but the difference is, the fickle employer who cancels a show usually does so due to low ratings (i.e. a logical decision based on viewership). We might second guess their decisions, but there's at least a whiff of logic about it. And the decision to cancel such a show isn't necessarily mean spirited or selfish, or even necessarily 'douchey'.

Having Sheen torpedo a series in the middle because he prefers cocaine to acting is a bit different. He's doing so for purely selfish reasons.
