Australia

Happy Australia Day! May I ask what the froggy-looking thing above the koala is?

The old toad is no longer a QLD exclusive, though one holding a bottle of Bundaberg or Beenleigh would seem the most authentic choice.

Since when did a Cane Toad become a national icon?

About the same time they started floggin' these things to the tourists:

It's worse than that I'm afraid. It was declared an icon by the National Trust of Queensland in 2006 (along with the colour maroon, would you believe). Sometimes I despair of my fellow Queenslanders...

(I wonder if those things in the photo are actually made here? I seem to recall seeing toad "artefacts" in Indonesia.)

With good ol' American Whiskey no less!

Heresy!!!

Oh, wait . . .

;)

Say . . .

There's an idea!

Blaming Indonesia sounds reasonable to me, although I don't know how we're going to duck responsibility for these atrocities:

Can't wait to own one?

We're a weird mob, no doubt about it.

Oh gawd, it's even worse than I thought.

ETA: Actually it's not so much about blaming Indonesia as being surprised that we still make things here.

Koala Stew

  1. Fill a 44 gallon drum with 40 gallons of bore water, build fire around drum and bring water to boil.

  2. Add 7 handsfull of gum leaves and a smidgen of gidgea bark.

  3. Carefully throw in your just caught Koala.

  4. From a distance of about 2 metres, toss 1 standard size house brick into the mix. (the 2m distance is an OH&S requirement)

  5. Continue to boil mix until water level becomes 8cm from bottom of drum.

  6. Carefully remove Koala and bury a minimum of 500 metres from campsite.

  7. Remove brick and place on plate.

Bon appétit . . .

Let's hope the Socceroos can knock over Japan and take the Asia Cup. It would be a great reward for the likes of Kewell, Schwarzer and Neill.

That would be nice, but I just can't see us winning.

Really? I reckon we have a great team that is certainly capable of doing the job. It will not be for want of effort and I am certain that if they were to lose, they would go down fighting. The hunger to take this cup among the squad must be immense.

A better way for me to have said that would have been "I just don't feel that confident but I hope I'm wrong". :)

COME ON AUSSIES!
