Israel tears down 80 year old hotel to make way for Jews ONLY

They seem to be doing a poor job of it then. The Arab population in Jerusalem has grown faster thann the Jewish population, Arab building is outpacing Jewish building and the city is issuing nearly 200 building permits to Arabs every year, a similar percentage to Jewish permits in Jewish areas (slightly higher according to one source I read a few weeks back) and have authorized the issuance of in excess of 33,000 permits for new housing units in the Arab sector. Further more, the application forms are udentical, except for the language, Arabs can get ones written in arabic if they desire them.

*Sourced from studies done by Justus Reid Weiner of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs and Israel Kimhi, former Municipal City Planner for Jerusalem.

According to another study on the matter: "based on the limited number of application for building permits in the recent years, the Arab residents of the City have not taken full advantage of the potential that exists."

There is no obvious connection between the statement you are replying to, and the facts you present in response. I conclude that like Wildcat and others you are trying to shift the conversation off topic to an irrelevant topic that suits you better.

Maybe you need to reread it. Thunder is claiming that Israel is trying to "make a Palestinian foothold in the area (East Jerusalem) impossible." The facts say otherwise:

- Increasing Palestinian/Arab population
- More arab than jewish building
- Higher percentage of building permits to Arabs than Jews
- Nearly 200 residential permits a year issued
- 33,000+ permits authorised to be issues if applied for

This would not line up very well with attempts to stop the arabs getting a foothold in East Jersalem, in fact exactly the opposite, that the Palestinians have a foothold in East Jerusalem and it's getting bigger by the day. Populationwise, Jerusalem is more arab now than it was in 1967, so clearly if the Jews are trying to force them out and make Jerusalem completely Jewish, they are doing a really really poor job of it because they are failing.

I assumed (and I welcome correction if I am wrong) that Thunder was referring to a political foothold by the Palestinian nation, not a religious or ethnic foothold by person's of non-Jewish background.

If he did, then he didn't make it very clear that he'd switch from discussing segregation on ethnic basis, to political stances of a non-exisitant, as we keep being told, nation.

So it's ok for the government of Australia to build housing exclusively for one race, but when a private developer in Israel builds housing for one religious sect it's "apartheid in new shoes"?

Is this the double "higher standard" for Israel again?

This is not true....you have been told this many times. The housing is built because the people are isolated and living in poverty. If they were Caucasian and living in the same circumstances they would be eligable for the same assistance in these cases the communities are 100% aboriginal so it is handled by the government department that is concerned with aboriginal welfare. Now if the Australian government made it compulsory that all citizens are defined and recorded as Aboriginal or non aboriginal you would have a case to compare them but of course there is no such law in australia.

Why would Australia have a department for aboriginal welfare if the Australian government has no way of telling who is an aboriginal?

It must make checking the progress of that department very difficult.

So why don't they build housing for them in downtown Sydney where maybe they could find a better paying job, instead of out in the scrub and wasteland where there are no jobs? Got to keep them away from the white folk, eh The Fool?

Apartheid in new shoes.

so have you dropped the claim that the housing is aboriginal only? Now moved to baseless accusations that Aboriginals are "kept away from the whitefolk".... advocating forced relocation? :)

These people are Australian citizens and unlike the system you prefer can live where they chose.

look..... this aboriginal beatup has been used numerous times as a diversion when you don't want to face an issue it always fails at fact and then disappears for a while. So keep going, lets see how many failed claims you can throw out before something shiny distracts you.

No, and it is Aboriginal only.

Yet all their housing is built off in a Bantustan...

Apartheid in new shoes.

I am willing to make the following compromise:

if Moskowitz will move his Jew-only complexes from East Jerusalem to West Jerusalem, I will no longer object to them.

I'm sure he loses sleep at night wondering why Thunder doesn't approve.

Neo-Zionists yell and scream when a critic of Israel dares to use the word "Apartheid", when describing Israel's discriminatory laws & practises, and yet they feel no shame in misusing the term "ethnic cleansing" when describing the removal of illegal settlers and illegal settlements from occupied territory.

talk about chutzpah. talk about hypocrisy.

1) How would it not be ethnic cleansing to "cleanse" East Jerusalem of the Jewish ethnicity?

2) How is building an apartment building on land you own in a major city creating a "settlement"?

3) How is it illegal to build an apartment building on land you own?

4) Since the issue is an American building an apartnment building, how is it a reflection of Israel's policies at all?
