(WIREUPDATE) — A person who knew gunman Jared Lee Loughner said that he met with Congresswoman Giffords at least once in the past. Caitie Parker, a high school friend of the shooter, said Loughner told her about meeting the Congresswomen once in 2007.

“He was a political radical. He met Giffords once before in 2007. He asked her a question and he told me she was ‘stupid and unintelligent.’ Parker wrote on her Twitter account.


“He was a pot head and into rock, like Hendrix, The Doors, Anti-Flag. I haven’t seen him in person since 2007 in a sign language class. As I knew him he was left wing, quite liberal and oddly obsessed with the 2012 prophecy. He had a lot of friends until he got alcohol poisoning in 2006 and dropped out of school. Mainly a loner, very philosophical,” she wrote.

According to BNO News, Loughner was placed into custody after shooting at least 18 people, six of whom have died.

I will still wait for a more authoritative description behind his motives before i ascribe any political motivations to his actions.

My only axe to grind is which those (at the start of this thread when the incident first happened) who sought to blame this on the Right wing and Sarah Palin.

When, as this story continues to unfold, it appears that this is an unhinged nutjob...who btw is being described by people who know him as a Liberal pothead
 
When a politician is killed at a political event, it's just crazy to suspect that the killing was politically motivated.............

An early report had him as an Afghanistan vet. Has that been confirmed?

Given his evident mental issues, it seems either unlikely, or something that manifested during deployment and that got him discharged.

If you could actually read for comprehension you would note that I wasn't placing any blame for this shooting on Palin or her stupid, tasteless map on sarahpac. Just commenting on the appearance of her taking it down at this (too) late stage of the game.

Instead, you choose to be this threads version of an 8 year old chanting "I know you are but what am I!? at every perceived slur to your "team".

I don't blame it on her. I blame it on the man or men with a gun or guns.

But that image was wrong. ALL the images, from any side in American politics, that feature targets, cross hairs, bull's eyes...all wrong.

Our representatives, from any side, do not deserve to be made literal targets in that way. They simply don't.

He makes reference to joining the military in his youtube manifesto but I haven't seen anything about his service beyond that very early report on him being a vet.

Definitely sounds schizophrenic ("crazy"), but not like the more typical hebephrenics who have the severe "word salad" pattern of speech you often find in people who live in the street. His more organized pattern of speech suggests a higher functioning schizophrenic and my guess is he has paranoid schizophrenia. His vocabulary suggests he has a reasonably high IQ and the content of his speech suggests he's middle class, or had a middle to upper-middle class upbringing.

His sentences are clearly written with excellent grammar (relative to many others his age, sadly). He seems to take a lot of pride in that too. His thoughts meander but he's able to stick with a particular theme for a reasonable amount of time (one paragraph is considered relatively long, for schizophrenics).

I'm guessing many or most of his hallucinations are auditory. He references himself in the third person frequently. So he may be the type who has "voices telling him what to do".

The word "target" has many meanings, most of which have nothing to do with guns.

Crosshairs, however, are most commonly associated with guns.
