I'll agree with this, but it's also gives an excuse to find any angle (unfounded or not) to fight the status quo.
 
Further to this, perhaps we need to examine the motives behind the whole FOTL ideal.
Some may be simply trying to dodge tax as a "gotcha" to the man, or to save a quid/buck.
Some may not be able to afford the tax in their current circumstance. From these some may extrapolate the reason to unfair, or illegal laws which place their family or person (heh) in jeopardy.

The motives of the fmotl are for folk like menard to con money from stupid people, nothing more. The type of people who claim they are freemen are not rebels or deep thinkers or protesters against the system just stupid,insignificant fantasists. The freemen have no answers to anything and to read what they write over at ickes you seriously have to consider their mental health.
Fmotl is also code for being a racist fundamentalist christian.

This is good for explaining why there is not one single case ever in the history of these losers trying their legal mumbo jumbo in court been successful -

so in other words no matter what happens in court the freeman wins even if he loses his car,gets fined or gets locked up. Melinclone has seriously got it bad. This rubbish he is spouting he actually considers deep,meaningful and truthful.
Mind you it gives me a good laugh when i'm having a cup of tea.

Right in the post I quoted. Based on a typo, you called the judge illiterate and concluded that this means he was probably appointed by Chretien.

Yes, that's why I linked to it. But the quotation in question doesn't actually come from there - it comes from the other link.

Actually, it isn't the first alt-med person I've seen use the term - there was one (another homoeopath I think) somewhere, possibly on the Guardian's "comment is free" section, who said that he practices "under Common Law" so regulations don't bother him.
 
Another example of FOTL thinking:
i've asked hundreds of people what they think a person is and they all say that they and me are persons. i say i'm a human being. i tell them that a person is like a bank account set up in their name with their birth cert. i must sound quite convincing as it often doesnt surprise them.

Yesterday I'm told one of our FOTL appeared in front of the fines court and recanted. He'd ended up owing thousands for council tax, gas electricity water, thousands in fines and costs. He told the court he'd finally come to the conclusion that it just didn't work.

Was in not Manly P Hall who started it all. I don't know much about him but apparently jordan was given his papers when he died and has been repeating them ever since.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this society in debt to foreign banks? As such all money collected in council tax is used to service existing debts. Borrowed money is being used to carry out council services via Government (where they can be bothered) NOT money collected as a direct result of council taxes.
