Continuation - Discussion of the Amanda Knox case

And it's easy to forget that even as little as three years ago in 2007, social networking was a good deal less prevalent than it is today - particularly when it comes to multimedia. People have only really started taking photos to post online in large volumes in the past couple of years - coinciding with the development of higher quality cameras in mobile phones, and internet connectivity of mobiles.

How many photos did Amanda have posted on her MySpace account?

platonov,

The photos, the Halloween message, and the borrowing of condoms all put dents into the prosecution's "theories" about the case. The words PM Mignini stuffed into Amanda's mouth to the effect of Meredith's behaving like a little saint and Amanda forcing her to have sex look increasing ridiculous the more one knows about each young woman.

The 'non existent' photos ...mean nothing.

Basta !

the Halloween message .. works both ways

the borrowing of condoms .. is AK's story , means nothing [or is a lie]

That would be the way to interpret what I just wrote, yes.

Well John if your washer takes almost 3 hours to wash a normal load of clothes then you should take it back! It's broken.

Any evidence that the women's washer took almost 3 hours to wash when the normal time for a wash is 45 minutes/1 hour? What was the brand name?

Amanda's father quote in the link you provided is not evidence, it's hearsay.

EDIT: Why didn't Amanda's defense ask her about the Chocolate Festival hangout when she was on the stand?
From Amanda's testimony:

LG: What do you remember about your life together? Were there some experiences you had together, like the Chocolate Festival?

AK: Yes.

LG: Or taking the sun, those things.

AK: Yes. For instance, we went together to the Chocolate Festival, and there was a band that we liked a lot, that wore this green shirt--

LG: You mean a musical band?

AK: Yes, musical, and they were dancing with their instruments and they were making a film, and they filmed her and she was saying "No, no, don't film me!"

LG: Did you take pictures? On that occasion?

AK: Yes.

LG: Where are those pictures?

AK: On my computer.

LG: But your computer, you heard that it was examined? The last time you used it, it was working?

AK: It was working fine.

LG: So in your computer there were photographs of you and Meredith at the Chocolate Festival?

AK: That, and pictures of us going around, and she asked me to take pictures of her next to her window, where you could see the view. They're all in the computer.

"Everything seemed to be meshing just fine," said Curt Knox. "I got to hear about [how] her and Meredith spent a bunch of time at this big chocolate festival. And she said, 'Yeah, we had the best time.'"

If this is the best the defense can come up with then Amanda is in trouble.

I'm glad that you've judged your own point to be valid. That's objectivity for you :D

Not so keen on the back-pedalling over whom the snide remark was aimed at, though.....

I'm not back-pedaling :) If anyone thinks it applies to them based on their own self knowledge that's not down to me. Obviously I'm not privy to the innermost desires any any individual, I was adopting a broad demographic approach.
I'm shocked that you would think such a thing.

Look back and read the edit that I added to my post, which links to a chart for a typical standard washing machine - it shows a 2hr20 time for a standard 60C cottons wash.

Amanda did have her digital camera seized:

"There are also a green diary, two notebooks, a digital camera and a laptop computer belonging to Amanda Knox among the material that investigators will review. They were seized by police last Tuesday, when the American student was arrested along with Raffaele Sollecito and Patrick Lumumba. The diary and the notebooks include several pages written in English and Italian.

I wonder if you can recover deleted photo's from a digital camera memory card?

The Break-in

6. Items of substantial value were stolen from the upstairs flat – Meredith Kercher’s rent and pocket money were missing and never recovered, her cell phones were missing and recovered elsewhere, and her credit cards were also missing but never recovered. The rent money was $300 Euros while she would be expected to have another $50 Euros or so in pocket money.
7. No definitive fingerprints and or DNA was found at the broken window or elsewhere in Filomena’s room to connect to an intruder – The number of tests for fingerprints and DNA in Filomena’s room and or window was not known. However, none were advanced as being those made by the person who broke the window.

8. Rudy Guede’s known method of burglary operation – Rudy was known to act alone at night in a search for cash and valuables, and to carry a knife and a glass breaking tool among his burglary tools. In addition, Rudy was known to throw a large rock to break a window. (A large rock would facilitate access and also waken anyone inside and alert Rudy to call off the burglary.) Rudy was also known to climb a wall to enter an upstairs window.

9. Rudy Guede was a physically fit and skilled athlete – Rudy was a skilled athlete. Rudy was 21 years old and almost 6 feet tall with a lean wiry muscular build. He appeared to have exceptional physical characteristics for climbing. Rudy also appeared to have the upper body strength to easily elevate his torso and legs upward by his arms in much the same manner as a gymnast.

You should look at the Utube video before reading this. The gymnists in that video had NO trouble scaling a three story brick building in eight seconds with rather flimsy hand and footholds

My theory on Guede's method of climbing into the window:

Guede jumped across and grabbed the shutter. With a shutter in hand and with feet on the bricks, it would be an easy task for a gymnist to climb up to the window, open it and jump in.

From Amanda's testimony:

Ah, thank you katy. All these great, wonderful photos that she supposedly took, didn't bother to download to the Internet but did bother to conveniently delete from her phone or camera.

Did Amanda's defense team send the phone or camera to experts to see if they could retreive the images from the memory card?

Ok, so according to Rose a few posts up this machine only washed, it didn't also dry. Why would Meredith put on a load at 5:30 (about the time she probably left to meet with her British friends) then stay out until 9? A wash takes about 45 minutes/ hour. Why would she, on purpose, leave her damp clothes in the washer for two and a half hours?

C'mon now, you can't really think this is significant, can you? I can't believe that the length of washing cycles is even being discussed. There is nothing even a little bit surprising in someone putting their washing in when they go out and hanging it out when they get back, even - gasp - if it gets left in the machine for a couple of hours (sometimes I even put my washing in before I go to bed, and take it out when I get up. I know, I'm some kind of freak).

The only surprising thing is that she didn't take it out and hang it up when she got back home, since she should have had plenty of time to do it. That's surprising.

The Halloween message "works both ways"?? How does a series of friendly text messages from Amanda to Meredith asking if she'd like to meet up "work both ways"? If I hated someone - or even if I felt merely indifferent towards them - I wouldn't be texting them asking to meet up.

Or maybe you're suggesting that Knox was mendaciously "pretending" to be wanting to meet up with Meredith, since she was perhaps busy constructing an alibi as early as Halloween evening....

The police control the evidence, not the defense. As I stated before, they requested additional testing on the computers and were denied (see Massei report). They are requesting this again in the appeal. Why would the court not allow this?

You leave damp clothes in your washer for 7-8 hours and you find it surprising that Meredith didn't hang up hers after a few hours?

I find it surprising that someone wouldn't hang their clothes up when they got the chance, and when they had the whole evening to do it.

Don't you?

ETA: If she'd stayed at her friend's house till 23:30, it wouldn't surprise me that she hadn't taken her clothes out of the machine by then.

If the photos were merely erased and not overwritten by taking new photos, it should be possible to recover the images from the memory card.

You don't get it, do you (or you do get it, but you're being deliberately obstructive....)

The whole point is that - if possible - one would not leave wet clothes in the machine any longer than one has to. If you put the washing in before you go to bed, then being asleep precludes you from being able to remove the wet clothes from the machine until first thing the following morning. But if you come back from a quiet evening out with friends (where no alcohol was drunk) and you know your wash load will have finished, it's odd behaviour to then leave those wet clothes in the machine for a couple of hours while you lie on your bed (fully-clothed) and mess around with your mobile phone.

Of course, the other possibility is that Meredith totally forgot that she had put a load of washing on. And, if that was the case, then this whole discussion in moot. But if she hadn't forgotten about it, then it's fairly unlikely that she'd have deliberately let it stew in the machine for a couple of hours rather than hang it out to dry.

Thanks Kestrel,
If these pictures were taken with this digital camera I hope the defense follows up on this. Assuming the memory card is not fried or anything.
