"Not Ever" - A Campaign Against Blaming Rape Victims

But that's shifting goalposts from the previous assertion that the reason they hang out is sexual, or that sex is what he's aiming for in the relationship.

Who? Older men and younger women? Absolutely. For the most part, a majority, more than 50% but less than 100%, almost all but not quite, if they were voting they would have the required votes etc.

You haven't defined older/younger and your percentages are pulled out of thin air.

I doubt if it's gender related, but it's because you can't read.
Ah, a pop at my literacy. You make this claim a lot. Have you considered revising your style of prose?
What do you mean by planning?
It has to do with this:

Howz it speld? :p
Thinking now, over the last 15 years or so, I can't recall being alone with a woman, in my house or hers, that I didn't have sex with. By the time in the relationship we were in the position to be alone together it was already sexual. (I may have been raped, I'm not sure if being coerced into sex a 4th or 5th time counts, some in this thread have suggested that's a bad thing :p)

I read from this that you don't look for anything other than sex from women. You would never say that the only guys that you've been alone with you have always ended up fixing a car with them or that you have always ended up watching football with them, because you do all sorts of things with your guy friends. With women, it seems that it's just about the sex

What's a rare occurrence? Men and women alone together having sex? Possibly in your world, not mine.
Ah, there's that underhand pop at my sexuality again.
Who said every man? Where did I say that? See you can't read, this is your problem. I told you so.
Again, I don't think it's a problem with my reading comprehension, I suspect it might be a problem with the prose.
Don't worry, it's not your fault. Whenever someone is losing the debate they make these ridiculous claims. It's a strawman and you've been told this. Please, stop.

Oh, you misunderstand me. I'm not worried. I do agree that there are some signs that would indicate that one side is losing the debate. My personal favourite is when someone losing a debate claims to have won it.

Well, firstly, it is possible for guys to spend time alone with women and not find them sexually attractive.

Sure it is, no one said otherwise. What I'm saying is if they do find them attractive there's going to be sexual overtones. Likewise a majority of the rapes in this high risk age group are stemming from sexual attraction.

Secondly, it is possible for guys to spend time alone with women who they do find sexually attractive and not feel that this attraction entitles them to sex.

Nobody said otherwise.

Who feels entitled to sex anyways? Sikhs? Muslims or some other religious sect maybe? I certainly don't know anyone that thinks they are "entitled" to sex.

I think you would do better not to perpetuate this myth that all men are potential rapists with whom no woman can be left alone and defenseless in case he finds her attractive.

Funny I argued the same thing to death in another thread. ;)

It really speaks poorly of your own impulse control, and your gender, as I pointed out earlier.

Yah because men are doing so good controlling their impulses and not raping. Not like women.

Oh wait...men can't control their impulses and commit what 90% of all rapes. I got that backwards, my bad.

Luckily, I know plenty of men that can spend time with women - even alone - even those they find attractive, and not pose the slightest threat to those women. You don't all just think with your dicks, you know.

Right, and how many are 19 again? And you're what? Well beyond the high risk age group we're talking about.

Thanks for the useless self aggrandizing, it didn't have anything to do with the topic. But I'm glad and relieved to know you have nice friends.

You haven't defined older/younger and your percentages are pulled out of thin air.

Try reading the thread

(of course the percentages are made up, it's a ridiculous rant on how it's not an absolute, it's just a majority)

Good, it's not that hard to understand. I'm surprised it took this long.
You probably realize that my sarcasm was a strong indication of my opinion that you are overprotective and paranoid, and overall a pretty bad parent. But just in case you're oblivious, let me say it: you are overprotective and paranoid, and it's likely that your daughter will rebel against you, leading her to get into troublesome and riskier situations than she would have had had you let her breathe a bit more.

Because the two are related:rolleyes:. Are you being serious or not?
Why wouldn't they be? Are you saying that woman-on-man rape is not a serious issue?

You said it was with a group of your brothers friends, not alone. Are you having trouble seeing the HUGE difference?
Nope, I didn't say it was with a "group" of friends (not that it'd make a difference, after all, that just makes gang rape easier). I said "friends" in plural because my brother had more than one friend, but it frequently happened that just one friend was present at the time, in our house, with no one else but me around. So I was frequently alone with one of his friends at various periods of time. Nothing ever happened beyond him just hanging around, chatting or making jokes while waiting for my brother, or him or us playing video games or watching TV in the most normal, platonic way you can imagine.
Statistically, I'm sure that many rapes occur with this sort of scenario; older brother's friend is alone with the teenaged sister and takes advantage of her, then frightens her into silence. On the other hand, it's statistically the case that most teenage girls who happen to be around their older brother's friend(s) or older neighbours or whatever, have nothing happen to them.

You're basically saying two things here: a) that it's near-impossible for an older guy to want to interact with a teenage girl in a non-sexual way; and b) that your teenage daughter should be watched at all times, just in case she might encounter a rapist.

a) is frankly wrong and creepy, and sounds like pure projection to me. Most people in this thread so far agree.
b) is paranoid misandry, and is counter-productive. Sure, it might prevent rape... it might also alienate your daughter to the point of causing her unhappiness. But that's okay, since the tiny risk of rape is now reduced to 0!

"I engaged in a high risk activity and I'm fine so everyone else should be too"
High-risk activity... :newlol I'm so glad that I am not so bitter as to treat every older boy as a potential rapist.

I think I finally see what the problem is. People like yourself, because it's not all that common, think because you beat the odds
"Beat the odds"? When you say someone beat the odds, you're saying that it was more likely for them to fail than to succeed. So you're saying that it was MORE likely for me to be raped than NOT raped. Wow.

You're contributing to the problem.
You're right. I am contributing to the endemic rapes that occur in society. How shall I ever sleep at night.

By the way, I actually find it somewhat insulting that you think I was being naive by trusting those guys. I mean, do you think that just because I was 15, I had no judgment whatsoever? My parents raised me right, and I definitely knew if someone was suspicious to hang out with or not.

I think you're sexist, but now I'm not sure if you're sexist against men ("most men are lecherous creeps and potential rapists, and no girl should ever be left alone with any of them"), or women ("girls are naive and must constantly be protected from their own stupidity").

At what point do you begin to realize this older man isn't hanging out with this girl because he finds her interesting. He's hanging out with her because he wants sex.
At what point do you realize that you're projecting? Just curious.

(of course the percentages are made up, it's a ridiculous rant on how it's not an absolute, it's just a majority)

So you are saying that the majority of men within an undefined perimeter of older/younger are a danger to women age 16 - 22?

Ah, a pop at my literacy.

Well it was supposed to be your comprehension, so yah I need brushing up on my prose.

How do you attribute what happens when you are alone with a woman to the entire relationship? :boggled:

most of the time we'd be out doing stuff, going on trips, going to movies, to dinner, to parties, to concerts, to museums, to plays, to relatives houses, horse riding, the casino, sailing, fishing, hiking and plenty more.

Maybe that's why when I finally get them alone they want to crawl into bed with me. I feel sorry for you where your entire relationship is spent sitting on the couch alone in your apartment.

Second, when I'm alone with another guy it's usually watching TV or fixing a car. I do way more things with women, and a lot of sex is one of many.

Like I said, I think you're comprehension skills are lacking, because you tried to make some determination from too little information. Try again.

So you are saying that the majority of men within an undefined perimeter of older/younger are a danger to women age 16 - 22?

No, it was pretty well defined.

This came from Morrigan's asking how this related to rape and risk. It came from the discussion about older boys coercing younger girls into sex, which I know you saw, you responded to it.

Look in between if you want definition.

Have you never had female friends without there being a sexual relationship, or a desire for one?

Maybe this is a good time to point out that statutory rape laws were not developed to protect young girls, they were created to protect the monetary interests fathers had in their daughters.

No virgin=no pay day.

Ergo, statutory rape laws.

They have been consistently evolving away from this outdated model, but the original intent still shapes how we understand the statutory scheme.

I've also noticed that the analogy of a guy waving around a wallet in a bad neighborhood comes up a lot. As if body and money were comparative values.

I never heard this before. Can you post a reference? It would seem to make sense on the surface. I always wondered why we can try a 14 year old girl as an adult if she stabs her 18 year old boyfriend on a date, but if she has sex with him, we assume she wasn't mature enough to understand the consequences and charge the boyfriend with rape.

I don't think this actually answers the question. . What difference does it make if you label someone "responsible" or "not responsible"? What are the ramifications?

Are you seriously claiming that you don't understand the difference between responsible and irresponsible behavior, and that you're not aware of the ramifications of irresponsible behavior?

What specifically is this perimeter. Within your posts, the age has ranged from 19 - 75.

I've also noticed that the analogy of a guy waving around a wallet in a bad neighborhood comes up a lot. As if body and money were comparative values.

What analogy would you prefer for advertising, deliberately or otherwise, the existence of an object desired by criminals in an environment likely to be frequented by criminals?

I'm more than happy to meet you halfway here, if this isn't just an attempt at special pleading.

And we're all the way back to rapists in the bushes. Which, statistically, they aren't. Even if they were, simply being female is not the same thing as waving around a wallet.
