Ann Coulter has no clue

But to the article that started this thread is it that ridiculous to suggest 18 is too young to vote.

Yes.

We expect that an 18 year old is subject to adult laws.

We accept that an 18 year old has the right to marry.

We expect that an 18 year old should have a job and pay taxes.

We want to get the future leaders of this nation involved in the process of deciding the course of the nation. And there is no better way to foster that involvement than suffrage.

Suggesting that an 18 year old should not vote is as ridiculous as to suggest that blacks not vote, or that women not vote, or that non-landowners not vote - all conditions which have been true at one time in this nation, and which nobody (I hope) would seriously suggest we should resurrect.

People under 18 are tried as adults all the time, people under 18 can get married in some states. In Alabama you can get married at 14 with parental consent and lots of people under 18 work and pay taxes. What is so magical about 18 what about 16 or maybe 19. There are many people who still are not ready to really take the responsibilities of being an adult at 20 and likewise there are many who are ready at 16. Although I think the age of being ready has increased in the last 100 years (strickly an opinion not based on fact but some observations)

Personally I think 18 is a reasonable age but suggesting an older age is not the same as suggesting blacks or women should not vote.

I know the only reason she says it is because the majority of 18 year olds vote democrat

IDK...the only valid point that Coulter made was that research does suggest that the reasoning capabilities of humans don't really mature until we reach about 25 years of age. But I don't really think this is enough to bar them from voting. How many people actually make an educated vote? Of those that vote based on emotion, how many of those are younger?

To deny Rights to an entire class of citizens entirely because they are members of that class seems to be no different if the class is age than if the class is sex or skin color.

If she had suggested that nobody over 70 ought to vote on the basis that many over that age are losing their faculties, and moreover that they are taking social security and so are drains on the taxpayer?? Would that be any more or less vile?

Because when libs are being satirized they cannot process it as anything other than mean-spirited falderal.

QED.
Fail. Saying she has no point is not the same as saying she is mean-spirited. One is attacking her argument, and the other attacking her argument on the basis of who she is ideologically.

You know, like you just did above. Speaking of QED.

Nobody agrees with you that the military draft either exists or is in effect. You could conjugate the Pentagon and not find one military or civilian employee who agrees with you. Perhaps you need to reacquaint yourself with the definition of "reinstitute" before even progressing to the definition of a military draft.

REINSTITUTE:

begin again; resume
Synonyms: begin over, begin where one left off, carry on, carry over, go on with, pick up, proceed, recapitulate, recommence, reestablish, reinstate, reinstitute , renew, reopen

You have to register to vote. It doesn't mean you are compelled to vote. Registering for selective service does not mean that there is still a draft where you are obliged to perform military service. Just because the USA originally established a draft back in 1917, and, therefore, it would not be precedent to start another military draft, doesn't mean the USA currently has a draft. You seem overly uptight about your selective service registration. Why is that?
You should have become acquainted with the term "compel" with your dictionary-fu, because you don't have to register to vote, but you do have to register for selective service. To clarify, if you would like to vote, you must register, but if you don't want to or don't care to vote, you need not register - it is all voluntary. On the other hand, if you want to be drafted, you must register, but if you don't register for the draft, you will be imprisoned, as it is mandatory. Or "compulsory", if you will.

I had the pleasure of working with several intelligent and well-educated Canadians. All of 'em pulled green cards and are now US citizens.

I wonder if easy access to good health care was part of the reason? Or did they just want to be part of a country that actually makes a difference in the overall scheme of things?

But blather on concerning our internal affairs; that and $1.50 will buy you a cup of coffee.

Odd, how this sentiment is never expressed to the right-leaning Canadians who frequently comment on "our internal affairs."

One might almost call it a double standard.

The double standard is we send Canada our draft-dodgers and other scum, they welcome terrorist "immigrants" from mid-East countries with open arms, and their brightest & best become US citizens.

A right-leaning Canadian (as the term is used in US politics) posting here? You jest.

Yes, yes. You got spittle on your keyboard.

I'm not buying it; you've been posting here long enough to know full well there are right-leaning Canadians here.

So you are in favor of denying the right to vote to the class of voters that are in the 17 year old category? What is magical about 18?
How long was 21 the legal voting age?
As I said before personally 18 seems like a good arbitrary number for voting age to me but it is not neccesarily vile to think that 21 is better.

What is "magical" is that it is a class that has Rights NOW.

I am not in favor of eliminating Rights already possessed.

Draft dodgers? When was the last time someone went to Canada to dodge the draft?

William Shatner and Tommy Chong are their brightest and best?

It's been awhile; next wave will start if the US decides to draft again.

William Shatner and Tommy Chong are their brightest and best?
Certainly, compared to the Canucks whining about US politics here. ;)

i'm not discussing american politics.
i'm discussing a hateful, bigoted american woman who spewed her hatred in canada a few months ago.
one venue was cancelled due to public outcry
keep your morons on your side of the border, please.

What makes me mad is old people who have their healthcare covered by the government. They are treated like children and shouldn't be able to vote. Think about it -- all their values are outdated, most of them couldn't tweet to save their lives and not a one is up on Bieber.

The bolded part is not necessarily a bad thing.

None of those things necessarily stop one from paying income tax; 18-20 yr olds can join the military if they feel their need to vote outways their need to party as they ignore reality.

You do know that voting and partying are not mutually exclusive?
