Continuation - Discussion of the Amanda Knox case

I haven't read the google version, however, I think that is fair. I also think Amanda's trial should be postponed until after the appeals and I believe her attorneys have made that request.

I really don't think either trial should be held at all.

I agree with you 100%. One more alert I have this morning and the best article on the new book (Rocco's) that I have seen so far. Includes information that there will be an American release.

BTW, here is the crimescope photo of the bathmat print with the scale in the view.

http://www.friendsofamanda.org/bathmat_print_under_crimescope.jpg

Something else I noticed in that photo is the streaking down the entire length just left of center. At first I thought this was a defect in the manufacture of the bathmat. But when processing the photo I noticed that the streaking continued onto the tile floor. This streaking was caused by a defect in the printing, faxing or scanning of the photo through a linear feed. That means we cannot rely on the dimensional stability of the photo for measurements off the axis of the ruler. If this image is part of a larger shot that shows the full square marker we could verify and correct the above distortion if there is any.

Hi there Fuji,

From what I have read, after meeting and living together, Amanda and Meredith had "continued to explore bookstores, run errands, go out for dinner, and hang out together in the center. When the popular, weeklong Eurochocolate Festival bagan in late October, they attended it together, exploring the white tents pitched on the Corso, where venders offered everything from chocolate popcorn to Perugina chocolates. Afterward, Amanda told her parents that she'd had a great time, and described her British roommate as fun, beautiful, and smart."
ref: "Murder in Italy" C. Dempsey, page 11+12

From what I have read elsewhere, there were photographs of Amanda and Meredith on Amanda Knox's laptop, you know, the 1 that the police fried...

So, heresay and specultation then. That is what I suspected.

Well, good thing I wasn't on that jury, for I would have voted them NOT GUILTY!

Yes, I agree with you that it is a good thing that you weren't on that jury.

It's too bad that Mignini's investigators did not, or maybe could not, find any drops of Meredith Kercher's blood at Raffaele Sollecito's apartment or on his clothing. Nor on any of Amanda Knox's clothing nor in her bedroom, right next to the murder scene. Think about it for a moment. Not even a few drops of Miss Kercher's blood, after she was brutally stabbed to death, could be found on the 2 nor their possesions...

That evidence Fuji, might have helped me to believe, as you seem to do, that Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito were involved in Miss Meredith Kercher's bloody, brutal murder.
But there wasn't any of Miss Kercher's blood found there, so...
RWVBWL

Agreed, it would have been additional incriminatory evidence. However, as previously noted, the evidence that actually existed was sufficient to secure their convictions, and I suspect, will be sufficient to defeat their appeals.

Hi, christianahannah.

The point being made was one of Amanda having some suspicious knowledge of some things at 12:00 when "nothing happened yet". And it was being made with use of Comodi's malicious dirty trick based on her repeated imprecisions.
Not only Amanda but also Justice Massei fell for that trick.

Katy_did pointed it out to you in the insightful post that you gracefully let slip by without any comment :)

It wasn't graceful on my part, I thought I had answered most of katy_did's post in a later post to Scorpion Nite.

katy_did and I disagree on Comodi's motives. That is okay. My interpretation of the questioning is different from katy_did's. That is okay.

I don't think Massei was tricked. He got the time correct in the motivations and only gave the call and prison conversation that of perplexity. Since nothing more is specified in the motivations I don't think it played an important part (if any) in the decision of the court.

I have a hard time equating anyone on either side of this case as evil. I believe it is a tragedy all around. If Amanda and Raffaele are innocent I hope the appeals have the desired outcome and they will be free. If they are guilty it is heartbreaking for everyone involved on both sides.

Toshiba request

So, heresay and specultation then. That is what I suspected.

Fuji,

Amanda's lawyers asked that her hard drive be released to Toshiba to see if the contents could be recovered, with the cost borne by the defense. So far, their request has been refused. This is where the photographs of Meredith and Amanda would be. Do you agree with the defense that the hard drive should be sent out?

Are the police five new police added to the calunnia suit of the eight police, are they part of the eight already in the suit, or are they five new police filing their own suit for calunnia?

Quite something, isn't it?

I wonder what (undoubtedly bogus) excuses they have given for this refusal to allow an item they are presumably holding onto as material evidence to be .... used as evidence.:boggled:

It does effectively amount to withholding, if not concealing evidence.

You know, watching their antics reminds of the way young children can tell the most outrageous 'fibs' without the slightest inkling of how transparent they are to the grown-ups.

Forgot to say - this might not be a matter of withholding exculpatory evidence (or evidence which jars with the 'motivations report'), but of certain parties being afraid that the the manufacturer could provide a detailed explanation of exactly what was inflicted on the drive to break it (for example, the highest G's of shock an HD has been exposed to can be ascertained).

Short of de-gaussing or physically smashing the platters, it is almost impossible to completely delete data beyond recovery.

Yes, very true. After all, I've heard that one of the "official" explanations is that they were powered up with the wrong voltage. But this would not serve to erase all the magnetically-stored information on the disc, even though it might corrupt some of it. So I wonder what actually happened here.....

Why are you so sure there were any photographs? If there were they would most likely have been posted to their Facebook pages very quickly after the event and downloaded from the camera's memory card, speaking of which, where are the memory cards from the cameras? This would be a likely place to find the truth. These aren't always immediately erased especially with the large size of memory cards these days capable of holding hundreds of photos.

There was something written about Meredith placing her Halloween photos on Facebook right away so why not any pictures she may have had taken with Amanda, especially after an event like the chocolate festival? Amanda also had a Facebook account (or Myspace) did she not. I don't know any young people today who don't almost immediately post their photos to Facebook, after an event especially.

If there were no pictures of Amanda and Meredith on their respective social networking pages my very strong suspicion would be that's because they don't actually exist. If they do, show the proof.

I don't know the contents of Amanda's computer (or camera or even if she had one) with regards to photos, however, my own experience when downloading photos to my computer is after that is done I am prompted to keep or delete photos from my camera and I always choose delete. There is no reason to keep them in my camera once they are on my computer.

I don't know if a technician could recover deleted photos from a memory card. As for record of photos on Facebook, etc., I think the accounts from many who were affected by the trial were pulled/closed due to privacy concerns. Can the information on a deleted account be recovered?

You have to remember that in 2007 far fewer people were on Facebook (or myspace), and that it was less common to upload photos in such great volume then as it is today.

And anyhow, regardless of the existence (or otherwise) of photographs of Amanda and Meredith with their arms around each other or whatever, there are verifiable text messages from within 24 hours of Meredith's death. These were friendly messages from Knox asking if Meredith wanted to meet up (sent on Halloween night and the afternoon of the 1st), and friendly replies from Meredith. They certainly don;t suggest that Knox was developing a mounting jealousy or hatred towards Meredith - in fact, quite the reverse.

Just out of curiousity. How will calumnia work if knox's testimony gets tossed by the appeals court.
1st. Supreme Court makes their ruling about interrogation/signed documents.
2nd. Prosecution gets Massei to agree to let it in anyway.
3rd. During cross examination defense attorney objects to the questions dealing with those documents and the interrogation. Massei ignores defense team.

Now if the Appeals Court agrees with the defense that the Supreme Court Ruling was ignored during the trial, then whose the person Guilty of Calumnia.

Is Knox the one guilty of Calumnia?
or
Is the Prosecutor guilty of Calumnia for asking questions that was ruled, by the Supreme Court, that he couldn't ask?

According to what you read these days anything posted to social networking sites is in cyberspace forever, so protect your privacy by being careful about what you post. It's been said it's possible to recover almost anything posted online but I don't know any more than what I've read and constantly tell my teenage daughter :)

I'm skeptical photos ever existed or someone, somewhere would have talked about seeing them posted by now. All that's ever said is speculation they were on the laptops and the idiot postals deleted them (perhaps even on purpose as part of the conspiracy)

I understood there were no replies from Meredith to Knox's text messages on Halloween night.

You're right. But since this is all about a bad theory that Amanda despised Meredith (for various bogus reasons), then the friendly inviting texts sent by Amanda to Meredith are far more relevant than anything coming back the other way.

I definitely think the computers should be sent out, fixed and returned. The prosecution should pay the bill since they are the ones that broke them.
