Brown peoples land (Egypt)

Is "Brown peoples land" a bigoted racist expression?

The way I read that post, though, it seems like he's not actually using "brown people's land" as a name for Egypt. The focus there seems to be on white people who on one hand are playing the against-racism card but then feel qualified to tell brown people what to do.

I can't say I agree with it on the whole, but it reads like a whole other thing than essentially mis-represented by the OP.

what does it matter what skin color the protesters have and the protested ones?

Stout is playing with cartoons of his own invention.

How can anyone characterizing the Gaza Freedom March as "telling brown people what to to" expect to be taken seriously about anything, let alone about the politics of racism?

Stawhawk, who's blog Stout linked to in support of his cartoon, color-obsessed version of the Gaza Freedom March, is Jewish. I wonder why Stout didn't pepper his little rant with references to jumping, shrieking Jewish witches.

Now that's the type of response I'm looking for. :)

Cheers Hans

That was the reason I specifically used the term and once I'm finished with the game I'm playing with the keystone language cops I'd be interested in hearing your disagreement with my hypothesis.

Do you think racism is a game?

What color are you?

No I don't, but once you understand that the racism angle is a complete fabrication on your part and is every bit as lame ( whoops, there's a abelist term ) as a Zionist using the anti-Semitic argument when people criticize Israel's actions, we might be able to enter a proper discussion.

Your contested post is made up of fabricated cartoons.

Your use of "brown person", calling Egypt "brown persons country" (a cartoon), is in no way equivalent, as you claim, to its use in an article discussing the effect of skin color and other racial differences, on our perceptions of each other.

I'm assuming that you included the phrase "brown persons country" to provoke a reaction and that you didn't drop it in there innocently just because it was the best way of communicating your argument. If the former is the case, then your post was troll racist (faux racist); if the latter, then it was ignorant, unaware racist.

I doubt that you'd refer to Egypt as "brown people's land" if you were in the company of Egyptians. Why do you think that might be?

Your second, similarly trollish (I hope ;)) cartoon, the foil to your brown-persons-country quip, is characterizing the Gaza Freedom March as "a bunch of white leftist activists who usually spend their time calling other people racists". Cartoon rubbish, of course.

As a bonus cartoon, you also throw in the old, shrieking-climate-change-activist-types, leaving on their jet planes.

As a final flourish, you add a link to a Jewish person's blog, inaccurately claiming that she writes about her experience of the Gaza Freedom March as if it were "some sort of adventure holiday". This cartoon reflects your ignorance of the who the protestors were, but that doesn't matter because it enables you to do, and is eclipsed by, your "brown persons county" trick.

To sum up, your "brown persons country (Egypt)" post is hackneyed rubbish and faux-racism (trolling). It was a great success. Well done.

In my experience, however, provoking and taunting people for being too precious about the political weight of words is frequently part of a generally bigoted agenda. The subjects of your post cartoons suggest this could be true in your case, so I certainly haven't ruled out the possiility that you are, indeed, a racist, but one pretending not to be one, possibly to yourself as well, with the aid of sophistry! :p

That's my take as well. Whenever I've seen the term "brown people" it's usually a sort of anti-racist mockery. "Oh, that Congressman was all for the proposal until he found out it would help brown people."

Says the one who calls looting "moneyless shopping", treason "true heroism", and soldiers "trained assassins". Talk about cartoon, you're a caricature of a Left wing activist yourself.

For someone who has a history of reinventing words for your own political agenda, I think you should shut up.

Depends on the case he's trying to make, I would guess. Look, I'm not saying I'm agreeing with his main point or anything. But I'm guessing you should be able to address that point on its own merits, without needing to take 4 words out of context and make a poll out of it.

Maybe. But, as I was telling DC, then it should be trivial to address that point without needing to pick on 4 words out of context. Notice how above you managed to make a coherent case about it and without needing a mis-representation as it being a name for Egypt. You _can_ address it as what it actually says, namely, in your own words, it's about "telling brown people what to do". That's what he's actually saying.

.
When I lived in the DC area, it was commonly said that the 14th Street bridge from VA to DC was the longest in the world. "It went from Virginia to Africa".
Way back then, I thought nothing of going to the Mall and parking my car there at night, and visiting the museums.
Today, I'd be reluctant to do in the day time, the crime rate in DC being what it is.

I'll try, i just found the whole wording very offensive.

Which accent?
Leonardos South African accent in Blood Diamonds..:)
District 9 accents ?

There are 11 official languages in South African and loads of different accents.

Define charming...:D

Hmm, you know...I don't actually know which one. I was friends with an exchange student from South Africa in high school and I remember finding her accent really delightful. I've only met a couple of people from South Africa since then but the accent seemed the same, a sort of slow, rolling accent with rich, heavy vowels. You know, it's hard to describe an accent in words.

"Telling brown people what to do" are not my own words. They are yours.

No-one is "telling brown people what to do". Such a childish characterization of the protest is itself racist.

Would you call Egypt "brown peoples land” in the company of Egyptians? If not, why not? Would you not expect them to find it offensive?

DC's reaction was not a "misinterpretation". It was a predictable and understandable reaction to Stout's offensive, faux-racist trolling.

"Moneyless shopping", not my invention, was a tongue-in-cheek joke, and a better one than "brown-peoples land". It is a perfectly accurate description for looting, though it is, of course, offensive to those who find all looting offensive, per se.

Describing a courageous whistle-blower's action as "true heroism" is perfectly valid. Just because you disagree doesn't make it a cartoon.

Assassination is one of the skills that the commandos who attacked the Mavi Marmara are trained in.

Then stop trying so hard to be offended by everything?

What makes you think he's "trying so hard"? Do you have psychic powers?

Well, I have to say that the premise of this poll is so far outside my experience and understanding that I don't even feel that I can vote for the Planet X option. I think that's a first.

No, they are mine.

Yes they are. Are your trying to deny that the Gaza freedom marchers were a bunch of white westerners who went to Egypt to tell they were doing it wrong?

Would you call Egypt "brown peoples land” in the company of Egyptians? If not, why not? Would you not expect them to find it offensive?

Maybe, maybe not. One thing i do is the group of Amerinds I work with regularly refer to the area they hang out in as "Indian country"

Stout's offensive, faux-racist trolling.

Faux-racist? What the heck is that ? A new made up term I suppose. Anyways, there's no such thing as faux-racism, as there's no such thing as reverse racism, at least according to anti-racism doctrine.

If you're going to use political correctness as a weapon, at least try to get it right.

Like when you asked me what colour I was...big mistake. All I had to do was tell you I was mixed race and was a self identified POC who doesn't act or think in the way "you white activists" need/want us to in order to promote your collective guilt agenda.

How would you know that I might be lying ? You wouldn't.

And, as you of course know, under the doctrines of anti-racism, a POC can't be accused of racism.

"Moneyless shopping", not my invention, was a tongue-in-cheek joke,

No it wasn't, the post clearly shows this is what you really think.
It is a perfectly accurate description for looting, though it is, of course, offensive to those who find all looting offensive, per se.
So was is a joke or not?

You just contradicted yourself.

Describing a courageous whistle-blower's action as "true heroism" is perfectly valid.
He's a traitor, and will be judged as a traitor. Please use the appropriate words.

Assassination is one of the skills that the commandos who attacked the Mavi Marmara are trained in.
Wrong again, they are soldiers of a national army, not "trained assassins". Please do not invent things.
