A Qur'an Got Burnt at 9/11 Mosque Protest

So now you have descended to insults.

I assume that the majority of Muslims understand their religion better than you and that's why there was no universal condemnation of the terrorists.

over and over and over again, have Islamic groups all over the world, condemned terrorism, there were protests organized by Muslim groups all over Europe to protest terrorism. Fatwas against terrorism were published.

I think those groups all over the world understand their religion a lot better than you and I.

But i guess those groups just used their holy right to lie......

that its not nice to burn people's religious texts.

Muslims seem to be very good at standing up for themselves, and defending their honor & people. We Jews could learn a lot from them. Muslims are known for not taking ****...while we are.

Muslims fight back, no matter how small a minority they are. Gotta respect that.

What is not nice about it? Says who and by what right?

And by fight back, you simply mean fight. I don't see where you get the "back" part.

The guy who burned the quarran got fired from his job.

What bothers me about this isn't so much the firing itself -- being an a-hole in public often has such consequences -- but the nagging suspicion that the real reason for the firing is to quickly dissociate themselves from him lest they be threatened with murder.

As (I think) Martin Amis said, when he was writing a critical book about Islam, he got two pieces of advice:

First of all, it's unfair to write a book suggesting Islam is violent, since it's really the religion of peace.

Second, he's crazy to publish it since he'll get death threats.

My suggestion to Americans: get used to it. You will be threatened by death more and more. Islam has no tradition of free speech and Muslim fanatics clearly wants to scare people into not daring to criticize the Koran. There's nothing you can do to stop it -- if you make burning the Koran illegal, then the next step will be demand that all criticism of Islam be made illegal. You give in to the thugs once, you give in forever more, since you legitimized the thugs' right to make demands of you in the first place.

But it's better to live with death threats than to live as a sniveling coward, let alone one that (see Thunder's post above) actually admires the bullies who are threatening him for "not taking ****" and "standing up to their honor".

I am not asking y'all to do anything I ain't doing. I am an Israeli, and as such I and my family already are condemned to death, and are targets of bombs and terrorists, simply for breathing. But it has an upside, you see: you have no illusions that sniveling cowardice and appeasement will make one less of a target, so you just say what you think.

Minniaplis taxi drivers wants foot bath for the Islamic pray.
OUTRAGE!

Fatwas

And here are the fatwas

(The Koran-burner's "Nazi ass" is not mentioned specifically, though)

Two Iranian grand ayatollahs issued fatwas calling for the killing of those who insult the Koran, including anyone who burns the Islamic holy book, the state-run Fars news agency reported.

No one was specified in the decrees, which were issued by Nasser Makarem-Shirazi and Hossein Nouri-Hamedani in response to questions asked by student groups from universities in Tehran, Fars said. Such an action against any individual could only be carried out with the authorization of an Islamic religious judge, they said.

“Undoubtedly, the blood of a person who burns the Koran should be shed,” Makarem-Shirazi was cited by Fars as saying.

LOL, as a resident of Melbourne, Victoria I can unequivocally say that this is a load of pure, unmitigated horse manure. :p

Yes, but he's a Koran burner, so it applies to him.

So, Thunder's hope of someone "putting a fatwa on his ass" have been fulfilled? What a surprise. Of course, it was a bit like hoping the sun rise in the east tomorrow from the start.

Only one thing puzzles me. Thunder said that fatwas have "nothing to do with violence", and yet, here they are, calling for the death of people for burning a book. Strange.

I can't find the post you refer to. Can you point to it please?

Here you go. The exact quote -- from this very thread -- in praise of those of threaten the koran-burning guy with fatwas is:

Muslims seem to be very good at standing up for themselves, and defending their honor & people. We Jews could learn a lot from them. Muslims are known for not taking ****...while we are. Muslims fight back, no matter how small a minority they are. Gotta respect that.

It's ironic since when Jews do try to stand up for themselves, as in Israel, Parky endlessly moans and whine and bitches about it. It's only Muslim violence that he considers brave and "fighting back" and "not taking ****" and "defending their honor and people".

Well, either that, or perhaps Israel is going about this "standing up for itself" the wrong way. Judging by the kind of behavior he is defending, if Israel passed a law that made it punishable by death to "insult Judaism", that would be the kind of "standing up for their honor and people" Parky would support.

What is your understanding of what a fatwa is?

What is your understanding of what a fatwa is?

Fatwa in general is a religious ruling by Islamic scholars.

But in this context, and in parky's specific statement that he "hopes they put a fatwa on his Nazi ass", it clearly means a fatwa that calls for killing the Koran burner, as many similar fatwas calling for the death of those who "insult Islam" had done.

Well, he got what he wanted.

The folks here who go on and on about how fatwas have nothing to do with violence, and that the insensate violent reaction to this Koran burning is nothing to be excited about and, if anything, a cause for admiration (Muslims are "not taking **** from anybody"), remind me of H. L. Mencken's saying that "To believe passionately in the palpably untrue" is "the chief preoccupation of mankind".
