The guy who burned the quarran got fired from his job.
What bothers me about this isn't so much the firing itself -- being an a-hole in public often has such consequences -- but the nagging suspicion that the real reason for the firing is to quickly dissociate themselves from him
lest they be threatened with murder.
As (I think) Martin Amis said, when he was writing a critical book about Islam, he got two pieces of advice:
First of all, it's unfair to write a book suggesting Islam is violent, since it's really the religion of peace.
Second, he's crazy to publish it since he'll get death threats.
My suggestion to Americans: get used to it. You will be threatened by death more and more. Islam has no tradition of free speech and Muslim fanatics clearly wants to scare people into not daring to criticize the Koran. There's nothing you can do to stop it -- if you make burning the Koran illegal, then the next step will be demand that all criticism of Islam be made illegal. You give in to the thugs once, you give in forever more, since you legitimized the thugs' right to make demands of you in the first place.
But it's better to live with death threats than to live as a sniveling coward, let alone one that (see Thunder's post above) actually admires the bullies who are threatening him for "not taking ****" and "standing up to their honor".
I am not asking y'all to do anything I ain't doing. I am an Israeli, and as such I and my family already
are condemned to death, and are targets of bombs and terrorists, simply for breathing. But it has an upside, you see: you have no illusions that sniveling cowardice and appeasement will make one less of a target, so you just say what you think.
