A rather odd women asked me to post a pamphlet on our community notice board about this chap http://www.michaelalchemy.com/default.asp who is coming on Wednesday night to give a four hour talk along with his accomplice who is "a government accredited teacher of the health science of the future" "Psycosomatic Therapy".

Since it is only $25 including coffee and a fantasic cookie ( the talk is at a well known bakery in town) I am going to pop along and will report back .
I have plowed through the website and come up with my list of issues , but does anyone else have any burning questions they absolutely must have answers to. Given that I will be the only sceptic in the room I am anticipate a hostile response from the local hippies but I will endeavour to couch my queries in terms of curiosity rather than animosity.

Just noticed on the alchemy page that the "sun creates growth of plants through photosynthesis and chloroform" Its going to be a fun night

Chloroform?

I'm now curious to know if this is an honest typo, or genuine ignorance.
Let us know if he uses chloroform in his talk.

That is, provided you don't wake up in a strange room...

^Its probably a typo, look at the rest of the website, this guy needs a proof reader.

This guy seems like your typical new age guru. Whispy hair and white robes.

Soul science enlightening through intuitive perception? What the hell is that supposed to mean?

I admit I'm amazed theres no pics of purple auras, angelic paintings or photos of him with photoshop lens flares coming out of his forehead.

Be sure to ask him about Atlantis and I want to know why the earth is a cube in his alchemy symbols.

I'll go too if I get a cookie.
Seriously, this fool Lamb is making a fortune... whereas this fool Fossilhound is taking home English teacher money, which begs the question of who is the real fool.
Sheesh, I gotta start my own cult.

Sounds more like a Microsoft Word's auto-correct used without thinking.

Then again, "without thinking" here is redundant.

Indeed!

And, by the looks of the kook, er guy, I'd keep pretty women and children at least 200 yards away for fear of 'soul science' attempts at 'intuitive perception' in bed!

This, from his "What is Alchemy" page, without permission:

Michael Lamb studied for ten years at The School of Inner Knowledge, understanding and teaching the Hermetic Kabbalah, working with colour & sound, the elements and healing techniques. He has had his own radio show on Planet Radio called Elemental Vibrations and has been featured on various other radio stations such as Triple M, ABC and 4BC. In 2002 he toured through the UK visiting sacred spiritual sites such as Glastonbury & Avebury while researching a documentary on Dragons. He is currently teaching workshops in Alchemy at the Australian College of Druidry (ACOD)- Gold Coast Hinterland.

Okay. Whoohoo. Nutjob alert...

Speaking of which, I just watched The Men Who Stare At Goats and at various points in the film they go through almost the whole catalogue of New-Age looniness that was floating around in the 70s.
Worth it just for that...

Atlantis. :p

You weren't joking:

The origins of Alchemy, according to esoteric writers, was an invention of the ancient Atlantean and Eqyptian sage Thoth Hermes Trismegistus known as the father of Alchemy, or Thoth – the thrice born. Alchemists are referred to as the sons of Hermes or Hermetics.

Indeed!

Okay. Whoohoo. Nutjob alert...

Did anyone else think about the crazy guy in Back to the Future?

I too went and took a look - as much as I could stand stand - at the website. The guy creeps me out. And in the beginning I just kept thinking, "This has to be a parody. Didn't I see this on Cracked?"

You're SO right. Nutjob. All the makings of an interesting evening.

Are you talking about this?

I'm a Cracked regular, I love that site. I enter the photoshop contest every week.
