Atheist of the Week

The honor goes to a dude who burned to the ground a wooden chapel built in 1897 as a consequence of a disclosure made by a young woman who claimed having seen an apparition of Virgin Mary in the woods near the place she lived. She said that Virgin Mary appeared to her 23 times between 1892 and 1895. That excited the local folks busy and they built a wooden chapel in the location that Virgin Mary frequented probably because it was a good place to pick up mushroom. However, the local bishop refused to bless the chapel and set up a commission that questioned the young woman to find out if she wasn't a nutcase. (Virgin Mary? What kind of nonsense is that, right?)

It took the Church a hundred years to conclude the case, and the small chapel was finally blessed in 1990 and became the official shrine.

Some locals claimed that in a particular moment, the shape of the smoke bellowing from the burning chapel looked like Virgin Mary.

The news article doesn't mention the reason why the arsonist tossed the match. That's probably because it was obvious: There is no scientific evidence that the Heavens exist and therefore no Heavens, no chapel. That only documents the omniscience of our dear Heavenly Father who inspired man to built churches made of stone.

(Sorry about the tongue. The Tower of Babel, you know . . .)

What a pity. Regardless of the origin, I think old buildings should be spared, whenever possible. Arson can never be justified. If someone did it in the name of atheism, they did wrong.

I'm trying hard to find the point in this.

Are you saying that someone tossed a match at a chapel, and so is an atheist? Or that no real Christian would toss a match, so it was an atheist? Or that an atheist tried to burn the chapel, but was thawarted by a smarter God, who made the smoke look like Mary? (that one is my guess).

Yeah, any evidence it was an atheist? Maybe it was an agnostic. A Muslim. A Hebrew. A Pastafarian.
In Norway some churches were burned by satanists, you know.

The guys a criminal and a tool. Reminds me of the Norwegian church burnings, except those were done in the name of Satan.

That's not really a good reason to burn down a building.

I agree. I don't care to be around fanatics and that would include an atheist fanatic. Theres a church within a short walking distance of my house and I wouldn't damage it for anything. It was built in 1870.

I think it was Christopher Hitchens who stated something along the lines of, and I paraphrase heavily: "I would not despoil their churches, mosques, synagogues, temples, if for no other reason than they'll get around to it themselves. "

No, but it is sufficient enough. Other options: I think that the hero atheist symbolically burned theism at stake or got something against Virgin Mary. Maybe she appeared to him as well. He made advances, got rejected . . . and you know that atheists have a short fuse.

It is pretty obvious to whom? Criminals and sociopaths? Oh wait...

Weird. I would imagine your fan fiction to at least have a little more porn in it. Whatever gets you turned on, I guess.

That happened in Czech Republic, not in Norway.
He was an atheist by a strong implication: He stole a bike and had a modest criminal record. So he was an atheist.

Poe. No one's this stupid.

When in doubt, use Google Translate:

Residents who have more than one hundred years old popular pilgrimage site, is apparently confused. Wooden chapel, where the late-19th century, a little girl just saw třiadvacetkrát Marian apparitions, is probably responsible for a pair of teenagers.

Their revelations helped coincidence, or a policeman, who also thought plain-clothes work. When the man from the police department in Police Metují the street he saw a young man with a very good reputation for pushing the motorcycle, instead of just sending my colleagues in ministry.

What is with the trolls recently? There's just no effort or passion going into these things now, it's like being on 4chan. "Herp derp, church burn down, must be atheist. U mad atheists? lolololol."
